Xp home and share ,
I know this has been talked about and the real answer is migrate clients to
Pro, but not really an option at this point.

Hope someone can help -

I know that Win Xp home cannot Join A/D, but it can be setup so that file
sharing on the Server can be accessed. Done it before
(Things I've done so far to try and connect to the shared folder on the
server)

I've changed the XPhome workgroup name as advised, to the same as the
Server's domain name - I've also created a new user in the A/D with the same
UN/PW as the XP home Pc. The XP home Pc can ping the server and after reeboot
can now see the server icon in my network places, but when trying to access
I'm getting a error {Server is not accessible. you may not have permission to
use this network ETC:-}

The server is setup for DNS / Active Directory / File server & Routing and
remote access.

XP Pro Clients that use server shares fine , XP home clients can veiw but
have no access , Server also can veiw XP home clients PC -Icon but get error
, path can not be found. - also XP Home clients can use Shares on each other.

You can always use the IP address to do the connection.

net use * \\192.168.16.2\share

would map the next available drive letter to the share on the server at an
IP address of 192.168.16.2.

Oh, don't say that; that's silly. Of *course* it's an option. Now, it may
not be an option that your company is willing to consider (for reasons I
would generally assume to be "penny wise and pound foolish") but it is an
option...it is, in fact, the solution.

The word "home" in the product name should be a big clue to the business
owners that this is not a suitable operating system for a business to be
running. Your wasting time and energy trying to kluge together a workaround
is costing them money now, isn't it?

Make sure you've turned off the computer browser service on this PC (I'd do
it on all of them if you run WINS, but esp. this one, or you will end up
with browser election problems)

Sure, you can do that, but it isn't mandatory. In fact, I wouldn't. See
below.

Try to map a drive -

net use x: \\servername\sharename /username:DOMAINNAME\username

enter the password when prompted.....see if ti works.

Yep.

Double check the permissions on your shares (both share & NTFS).

Firewall settings on the clients, probably....but you should avoid having
shares (or data) on your workstations anyway, to be honest. You're in so
many ways defeating the whole point of a domain model with this & XP Home !
