Hi,

We have a customer with an extensive sharepoint/Companyweb database
setup on their SBS 2003 server.

The guy that set it up and looked after it has now left the company
along with some other people.

The company are now having a new SBS 2003 server installed and want
this setup from scratch as their is a lot of history on the old
server.

..but they do want to keep on using the Sharepoint/Companyweb so they
want this tramsferred to the new SBS 2003 server.

What's involved regarding transferring this to run on a different SBS
2003 server, possibly with a different servername/domain name,
different users etc etc.

Jim.

I can understand the desire to set up the *server* from scratch, but are you
also saying you will do no migration of Active Directory or the exchange
mailboxes?? Because my first recommendation would be to do a swing
migration which lets you set up the server fresh, but keep your existing SBS
"stuff" including the items I mentioned above.

You have two ways to do that. The first is to follow the instructions in
the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=827701 The article
describes how to move the the companyweb site to a new server.

The other method is easier but it involves either Microsoft FrontPage or
SharePoint Designer. If you have either of these programs, you can perform
a backup of companyweb from within these applications, then copy the backup
file to the new server, and again from within these application, restore the
file.

Yeah, they really wanted it setup from scratch as like I said there is
a lot of history and custom config to an unknown level done by the
previous guy. I think that they may be worried about anything that he
may have left behind.

Talked about swing to them, they don't want to do it.

Basically the company ownership and name has changed, as well as most
of the users, so not much to be gained by doing a swing, but the type
of buisiness is the same, same location and premises.

So they want to start from scratch but they do want to keep the
companyweb as it is an integral part of what everyone does each day.

They'll have FrontPage that comes with the server so that could be an
option.

Would that need installing onto the server/s ?

Jim.

FrontPage doesn't have to be installed on the server. You can install it on
a workstation and do the backup from there. Just type http://companyweb on
the 'Open Site'. Since there is a lot of custom configuration, as you
posted, if it involves web parts, make sure that these parts are installed
on the new server otherwise the new installation won't work properly.
