I hvae noticed that the Exchange log files within the MDBDATA folder have
been around for months even though I have been receiving daily full backups
(Monday - Friday). I was under the impression that after a full successful
backup the logs would be purged. Any ideas, these logs are taking up GB's...

Thanks,

Yes a properly setup Exchange aware backup program should purge the log
files. What program are you using?

Yes the backup setup by the SBS backup wizard should be purging the logs.

I will delete the backup job and re-create via the SBS Backup wizard. I will
see if this resolves the problem.

Steve,

I ran a "normal" manual back of the entire server to an external hard drive
using NTbackup.exe. The backup was successful, but the MBDATA folder still
have Gigs of log files...It was my understanding that after this backup they
would be purged...Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Hi Mark,

What's a 'normal' backup? If using NTbackup, you need to make specific
selections.

Or, you could use SBS backup - just run the SBS backup wizard, accepting the
defaults (except the destination) and then click on 'backup now'.

Les,

I just created a new backup job using the SBS Backup Wizard. I have
launched the scheduled task for that job and it is now running. Before, I
ran a backup job using native ntbackup.exe and the type of backup is
"normal". Other options are copy, daily, diff, incremental.

We will see how this other jobs works...

Thanks,

Cool, that should do it, as the SBS backup will configure the exchange
backup wheras there are a fair number of individual settings in the ntbackup
gui that need to be made otherwise.
