I have a 2003SBS which we are using the fax service on. When I try to change
the Printer to rout faxes to, I can not, It tells me that I do not have any
printers installed, but I do. The printer installed is Shared Printer on
another workstation. How do I get around this?

Thanks for you comments,
Glenn

Hello Glenn,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you unable to select
shared printer when you run the "Fax Configuration Wizard" on SBS. If I
have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, the SBS local printer does not have this issue. I
suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve this issue:

1. Please try to install the printer on SBS.

2. Try to restart the SBS after you install the new printer. Then, try to
run the "Fax Configuration Wizard" again.

3. If the issue persists, please try to reinstall the fax component on SBS
to test this issue:

A. Rename the keys and files below to *.old

1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fax
2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Fax
3) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\fax
4) The ''SBSMIS-FAX.log'' file under ''C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs''.
5) The ''SBSMSI-faxcfg.log'' file under ''C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs''.
6) The ''faxsetup.log'' file under ''C:\WINDOWS\''.

B. Delete the following registry keys:

HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Telephony/Country List
HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Telephony/Locations registry
Keys

C. Access Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, uncheck ''Fax
Services'' to uninstall it.

D. Once it is uninstalled, access Add/Remove Programs to reinstall it.

E. Then, access ''Add/Remove Programs again'', this time, we will click
''Change/Remove'' on the ''Windows Small Business Server 2003'' item:

1) Click ''Next'' on the ''Microsoft Windows Small Business Server Setup''
page.
2) Click ''Next'' on the ''Windows Configuration'' page.

Note: It states that ''This will take approximately 30 minutes'', it is
referring to the total time it will take in the first SBS component
installation. For the task such as remove a specific component, it will
just take couple of minutes.

3) Now, in the ''Component Selection'' page, choose ''Remove' before the
''Fax Services'' item.
4) Click ''Next'', and then click ''Next'' again to confirm ''Component
Summary''. You will be prompted to insert the SBS setup Disc 1. and then
follow the guide the finish the reinstallation.

F. Once the removal process is completed, access ''Windows Small Business
Server setup'' again in ''Add/Remove Programs'', proceed to the ''Component
Selection'' page, and then choose ''Install'' for the ''Fax Services'' item
to reinstall fax service.

Good Morning,

Ok I followed your instructions, at this point the Windows Small Business
Server Setup does not reinstall the Fax Services, it errors out. Right now
the Fax server is down. What would be the next step? How do I remove any
errors referencing the fax services...

Hello Customer,

Thanks for your update.

The fax reinstall steps had been delivered many times ago, and never has
problem. I suggest you double check, and perform again.

If you still get error when install the fax component, please help me
collect some information for further investigation:

1. Please capture screenshots of the error messages and send the pictures
to me at v-terliu@microsoft.com

2. Gather MPS network report on SBS:

a. Download MPSrepot_network from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE

b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe.

c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will
take 10~15 minutes.

d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
%SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\

e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu@microsoft.com

3. Please gather all SBS setup log files in c:\program files\microsoft
integration\windows small business server 2003\logs\ on SBS and send to me.

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Thank you for your additional notes.

1. I went to control panel add remove programs componets and put a check
mark in the FAX box. that ran fine.

2. I went to Server Manager - Faxing - Configure Faxing - and I got an error
that will be in my e-mail to you along with with the CAB File you wanted to
see.

Thank you

Hell Glenn,

Thank you for your update.

Now, you run Configure Fax Wizard and get this error message:
"Windows cannot find 'faxcfg.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly,
and then try again."

1. Open a command prompt.

2. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\fax> regsvr32
/u faxcfgc.dll

3. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\fax> regsvr32
faxcfgc.dll

Then, test again.

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu (MSFT)
