The Remote Server Administration Tools for Vista have been released. This
is the tool set that replaces the adminpack.msi tools pack for XP. Vista
SP1 is required. Once you run the installer, you have to go to CP ->
Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features off or on. I recommend
taking a look at these - I do all my server admin from my desktop PC, and
these tools let me skip RDP for most simple functions.

Charlie already knows about this, but for the other 64-bit user:

Thanks, Dave. It's about time they released this.....

But please accept my condolences; I'm sorry you have to use Vista. I'm using
XP Pro until they pry it out of my cold dead fingers, or until Windows 7 is
released, whichever comes first :-)

I see Susan Bradley has a complete write-up about RSAT, including screen
shots.
http://msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/archive/2008/03/25/rsat-vista-and-shellrunas.aspx

I expect one of the best things about Vista SP1 and RSAT will be group
policy preferences. I haven't implemented this yet, but I plan to in the
near future. I expect preferences to take a lot of the work out of
deploying desktops, if nothing else.

Of my three primary computers, two are Vista and one XP Pro. I love them
all. I don't see Vista as a compelling upgrade for existing hardware such
as my XP laptop, but it does have a lot of little features I really like.
SP1 seems to have cleared up the most annoying issues.

The release of the RSAT is a welcome addition for sure. I just gave
myself a laptop with Vista a couple days ago. I was shocked to see
that I could not manage my 2003 server environment. Even with the
RSAT we can't manage Exchange 2003 from our Vista desktops - is there
a plan to fix this blatantly crazy situation?
I realize micro$oft has to make money; hence we get meaningless
inventions like Windows ME and Vista that no one really wants, but at
least don't take away functionality that we want/need!

Chris. (still in disbelief that we as a society need new math books
each year - does algebra really change)
