Running SBS 2003 Premium, Exchange 2003, SQL 2000, ISA 2004, WSUS 3.0, WSS
3.0, 2-NIC's.
==============
Been chasing my tail the last week or so trying to get WSS, company web and
WSUS to all work at the same time. Still no luck so I thought I'd put out
the details and see if anyone has ideas that I can use to fix them.

WSUS - clients not reporting in. I got my PC in once I used dcomcnfg.
Haven't tried it yet on the other computers or servers. WSUS is retrieving
updates and notifying me - console works well. I suspect a
setup/permissions problem that bis related to the RWW problem.

I can access http://companyweb and http://<servername> fine (WSS 2.0 and WSS
3.0, respectively) fine.
Server Usage Report is not viewable; I get "Server Error in '/Monitoring'
Application".
http://<servername>/remote and http://<servername>/exchange both result in
HTTP 404 errors.
Nothing in Event Logs.
ISA 2004 BPA - no errors.
SBS BPA - Warning items: "Sharepoint instance does not use SQL Server 2000
SP4", and "STSVersion registry key is at RTM version"

In IIS Manager:
Websites:
Default - (192.168.16.2), ASP.NET version 2.0.50727, 127.0.0.1 and
192.168.16.0/24 granted access, Anonymous and
Integrated Authentication checked

-Remote, ASP.NET version 1.1.4322, access the same, Anonymous

Sharepoint Central Administration - (all unassigned), ASP.NET
version 2.0.50727, all granted access, Integrated Authentication only method
checked
Microsoft Sharepoint Administration - (all unassigned), all the same

Sharepoint Central Administration - (all unassigned), - ditto -
Windows Media Administration Site - (all unassigned), - ditto -

WSS 3.0 - (all unassigned), ASP.NET version 2.0.50727, all granted

Mike,

In IIS Manager, start by setting the IP address of the Default Web Site to
'All Unassigned'. Then change the ASP.net version to 1.1.4322.

After you do that, go to the command prompt and issue: iisreset /noforce

Odd .... iisreset /noforce resulted in a failure "The service did not
respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. (2147943453,
8007041d)" Tried again and got "The service cannot accept control messages
at this time. (2147943461, 80070425)". SO I removed the "/noforce" and it
stopped and restarted fine.

Same results - HTTP 404 error on http://<servername>/remote and

Mike,

Try re-running CEICW. I would also suggest you restart the server. If that
doesn't solve the problem, I would suggest you stop all sites except the
default one and try to troubleshoot one at a time.

Done. Re-ran CEICW, rebooted. Same problem. Decided to go ahead and update
the SQL instance of Sharepoint with SP4, re-apply SBS SP1, reboot. Still
have the same problem. I'll have to try each site one at a time to see
where the problem is.

Stopped all webswites except Default - still the same error. I've narrowed
it down, so it must be (could be?) the permissions. I'll check Remote,
Exchweb, SelfUpdate, ClientWebService as well as the root. I re-ran SBS BPA
and it errored on mush of the Default site being on ASP.NET 2.0.50727 vice
1.1.4322, so I changed all it said to, re-ran CEICW - same result.

I don't think it's a permissions issue. SBS BPA identifies the .net
framework on the default site as 2.0 instead of 1.1.

Make sure that all sites are stopped and and check again the ASP.net tab on
the Default web site to be set to 1.1.4322. Save the change, stop the site
and then restart it. Check and make sure 'All Unassigned' is set as the IP
address, click on 'Advanced' button. You should have two entries for port
80: Default with host header the name of your server, and 127.0.0.1 with no
host header.

Check ASP.net tab on the remote, exchange, monitoring, backup virtual
directories. It should be set to 1.1.4322 since they operate on the save
.net version as the default web site. Re-run the CEICW. Run the SBS BPA.
Does it still shows the error for the ASP.net version?

Re: Problems with RWW and WSUS by Mike

Mike

Sorry it took awhile.

Did as you suggested. Stopped all websites except Default. Found it had
gone back to 192.168.16.2 as the IP -- changed it back to (all unassigned).
ASP.NET had also gone back to version 2.0.50727 -- reset it to version
1.1.4322. Stopped and restarted website, ran IISReset frm command prompt for
good measure. Checked sub-folders - Remote, Monitoring and Backup had
ASP.NET verion at 1.1.4322, but Exchange and Exchweb were at 2.0.50727 and
the selection is greyed out. On the Advnanced button, the 2 entries were
there, but no host header on Default. I edited it and placed <servername>
as the host header.
Ran CEICW and SBS BPA -- no errors on either one. Tried to access
http://<servername>/remote and http://<servername>/exchange from the server
and my PC - still get HTTP 404 errors.

Beginning to think I should take half a day, uninstall WSUS, WSS 3,
Intranet, and then reinstall - carefully.
