I am setting up a new SBS 2003 R2 Standard Server and Win XP Pro
workstations. The server has only one NIC. I am having problems setting up
the workstations. I was successful on the first computer, after initial
problems, but I donâ??t remember what I did. I have internet connectivity, but
when I try to run the Connect Computer Wizard it cannot find the server.

I have tried using just a router (D-Link DI-704) and a firewall appliance
(Freeguard 100). With the firewall I set the primary DNS to the internal
adapter on the SBS. If I explore Complete Network I can logon and view the
server.

I am also having a problem with a Canon multifunction machine. I can print
to it set up a network printer with a static IP address, but I get an error
when I try to scan documents and send them to a shared folder on the server.

Thank you

Give us the output of 'ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig.txt' from both SBS and a
workstation experiencing the problem.

But it sounds like DNS. All AD clients (including the servers themselves)
should point _only_ to AD aware DNS servers.

Hello,

Thank you for your posting here and thanks for SuperG's good input.

My name is Gary Wang, and it is my pleasure to work with you on this issue!

Please allow me to confirm that my understandings are correct. As I
understand it, the issue is:

Your Windows XP client cannot find the SBS when run the Connect Computer
Wizard. And You get an error when trying to scan documents and send them to
a shared folder on the SBS server.

If I have misunderstood your concerns please feel free to let me know.

Suggestion :
==============
1. You issue seems may due to DNS problems. In one NIC scenario, we
recommend that run the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard at
first instead of configuring the IP setting manually.

How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us

One network adapter - manual router connection to broadband

a. On the Connection Type page, click Broadband, and then click Next.
b. On the Broadband Connection page, under My server uses, click A local
router device with an IP address, and then click Next.
c. On the Router Connection page, next to Preferred DNS server and next to
Alternate DNS server, type the IP addresses that are provided by your ISP.
In the Local IP address of router box, type the IP address of the router
that the server uses to connect to the router.
d. Click to select the My server uses a single network connection for both
Internet access and the local network check box, and then click Next.
e. A message may appear that warns that the firewall that is provided
cannot be configured. You are offered a chance to view information about
configuration settings for an existing firewall device.
f. On the Network Connection page, click Server Local Area Connection
under the Connection Name.
g. Click Next.
h. Complete the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard.

2. After we run the CEICW, the SBS server will take the role of DHCP
server.

Generally, for a single NIC SBS Server, the client side IP configuration
should be like:

DHCP/DNS/WINS - SBS IP address.
Default Gateway - Router internal IP address.

3. For the "scan documents and send them to a shared folder on the SBS
server" issue, it is mostly a 3rd-party issue. I would like to suggest that
you contact Cannon before we perform further trouble shooting steps.

4. Make sure File and Printing Share protocol is enabled on the SBS server.
Please go to Control Panel - Network Connections, double click your NIC and
choose Properties. Make sure the "File and Printing Sharing for Microsoft
Network" is checked.

5. For the send scan documents to shared folder issue, you can suggest you
customer to check the shared folder permission on SBS, ensure Everyone have
write permission, including NTFS and share permission.)

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
help me collect some information for further investigation:

Information Need
==============
1. Check whether you can ping the server's FQDN from the client and ping
client from the server successfully. Also try to ping the domain name from
the client.
2. Please help to collect Ipconfig results on both server and client and
post back here.
3. Please help to capture screenshots about the error when you run Connect
Computer Wizard on clients.
4. Please tell me your network topologys, for example, how you connecting
the firewall to network.
5. Check event viewer on client for related errors. If exits, please save
the events to *.evt file and send to me at v-gzwang@microsoft.com.

Best regards,

Gary Wang(MSFT)

I finally gave up and installed a 2nd NIC and now I am able to connect the
client computers.

I still have a problem with a Canon ir2020 Multifunction machine. It is
assigned a static IP and I can access and manage it through Internet
Explorer. I can print to the machine, but when I try to scan a document, I
cannot save it to a shared folder on the server. The control panel on the
Canon has the capability to store addresses using SMB. It sees the server
then asks for user name and password, but then says it cannot find the user.
I tried adding a GPO to shutoff SMB signing, but that didnâ??t work. Around
the same time the built-in Administrator account lost itâ??s authorization to
do things like open a web page or open Monitoring and reporting.

I have tried so many things, but cannot get this to work. I was able to
scan a document to a workstation before it was placed on the domain. I also
once was able to save it to workstation on the domain, but only when set up
on the Canon. When I tried to set it up through the web browser it didnâ??t
work.

Thank you.

Hello Ken,

Thanks for your update.

However, please understand there are maybe some specific settings on your
Canon device for it to communicate with SBS. So we recommend that you
contact Canon's techincal support at first to make sure it can support to
save files to file share in domain environment and how to.

Also, when the prompt pops up for credential, you should use the format as:
YourSBSDomainName\DomainAccountname to get access to SBS server.

If there are any update or further issue, please feel free to let me know,
I am happy to provide further assistance.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Thanks for your response.

I have done this with the Canon machines, but it was Server 2000. I did go
over the settings this time with Canon and they said they were correct.

When you set up an address on the Canon you can click â??browseâ?? and it sees
the domain. I can then click down and it sees the server and all the
workstations. Then when I click on the server it asks for a user name and
password. I type them in, but then get a message that says it cannot find
it, check your spelling, etc.

Thanks again.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your reply.

I've noticed that you posted multiple issues in this thread. Generally,
we answer one question per post in the newsgroups. In order to concentrate
fully on each of these problems we ask that you post them as separate
threads. That way each issue can receive full attention from the Support
Professional to whom it is assigned. This will also make the thread more
clear and consistent for your reference. Please feel free to open different
posts for these questions. We will be very glad to work with you.

Personnally, I would like to suggest that you check the below:

1. Upgrade your canon device driver to newest version.

Upgrade the driver of Canon device
http://www.canon.com.au/products/multifunctionals/multifunctional_digital_de
vices/ir2020_drivers.aspx

2. Use another account to access SBS share folder server.

3. Plesae check if there are any password cache on the server which is
holding your Canon device and clear it. To do this, please check below:

a. Open Control Panel, double click User account.
b. Expand to Advanced tab and click Manage Passwords.
c. Delete the records there and test again.

4. Open dsa.msc on your SBS server, make sure the account you are using to
access file share is not locked.

5. If possible, you may like to replace the NIC of your server which is
holding the canon device as a test.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,

| When you set up an address on the Canon you can click â??browseâ??and it
sees
| the domain. I can then click down and it sees the server and all the
| workstations. Then when I click on the server it asks for a user name
and
| password. I type them in, but then get a message that says it cannot
find
| it, check your spelling, etc.
|
| Thanks again.
