Hi

Windows SBS 2003 R2 Standard

There is a KB article on hosting multiple email domains involving Recipient
Policies, SMTP Connectors and bridging somewhere and I can't find it.

Age old question - will this allow the originator address to show the
originating email address as name@myco1.com or name@myco2.com etc instead of
the primary email domain?

Any help, please?

Is one of these alternates going to be the new default address?

Otherwise, in Outlook you have to enable the "FROM:" line and type in =
the email address you want to appear as.

This should help
http://sbs.seandaniel.com/2004/10/hosting-multiple-domains-on-sbs-2003.html

When they receive a email from user@domain2.com instead of user@domain1.com
And reply to it, the correct responding email will associate.
if it's a NEW Email sent out.
you will of course Default to what ever you have set up as PRIMARY for that
user

Remove the ones not needed in their profile and set the primary to what ever
company you want.
don't forget to uncheck to box "Automatically update e-mail addresses based
on recipient policy"

You'll need to set up different recipient policies & apply them by using
filters (in the policy properties) that limit them to the objects you wish.
For example, you could make sure you've already put "Company X" "Company Y"
"Company Z" in the description field for each of the users in question and
make sure the policy filter applies to only the appropriate ones.

See http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF010.html for some basic help.

You have to use a recipient policy, of course - or multiple ones, filtered
as I described. Check out my post. Don't manually assign SMTP e-mail
addresses without a valid policy in place that handles that domain....and
I'd let the RUS handle the email addresses.

It's better to create a policy that uses a filter, for each domain name,
then you leave the box checked and the domain names filter to only the
matching users - use Description or some other field in their
description(users) to act as the filter. We do this with one client that
has 15+ companies connected and each has their own domain name for mail.

If you uncheck it you can't roll changes out easily.

Aw come on.
OK I Admit it, I know filtering is better.
But how often do you change them?

But she's right. filter is better..

It can be often, in some companies (adding additional aliases to all users,
etc) -so I prefer not to do anything manually per user.

Leythos and Lanwench,

I have been reading until my eyes hurt on how do it with filtering, that is,
how to have certain users get domain1 addresses while others get domain2,
etc, addresses, and some who need both. Maybe I should wait until the
morning when my brain is rested to post this message. Or not.

This site seems to have a method
http://sbs.seandaniel.com/2005/08/extension-to-delgate-access.html, but it
seems like one heck of a workaround.

Most articles (including http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF010.html) say
to modify the default recipient policy, but creating a new policy for each
domain would be cleaner, as you two have indicated.

I already have ChooseFrom and SmartReply to handle outbound addresses and
the From field in replies to aliases, and I think it will work for multiple
domains.

Oh, crap, I just remembered asking about this setup before (found it in
Google Groups under "Questions about multiple email domains on SBS 2003 SP1
with Exchange 2003 SP2" back in March 2008), and a this link
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Implementing-Custom-Recipient-Policies.html
in the thread.

Can you tell me if that last link is the best one to follow?

Thank you! (and I'm sorry for the non-drinking drunken stupor...got to
sleep!)

Hi - I'd post this as a new message as the thread you're in is stale, and
your question is only marginally related.

OK. I am going to re-read my thread from March (the one I just remembered
late last night). If I don't find the answer, I'll post again in a new post.

Marginally related? I thought it was directly related to the suggestion by
you ("You'll need to set up different recipient policies & apply them by
using
filters (in the policy properties) that limit them to the objects you wish")
and by Leythos to use separate policies with filtering.

I ended last night's post with asking if this article
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Implementing-Custom-Recipient-Policies.html
is still any good for doing your suggested fix. Is this article a good "how
to" for your suggestion?

Marginally related in that it's *your* question, not the OP's (and the
thread is old 'n stale).

Yes, it's pretty spot-on.
