I am using:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServerSolutions/SBS/en/library/62e2094e-ad4e-4227-b20e-97a716ed7c861033.mspx?mfr=true
On this step Create an alias that maps the source server name to the
destination server name
netdom bsg1 /add:bsg.bsg.local

says
paraneter bsg1 was unexpected.
so I use
netdom computername bsg1 /add:bsg.bsg.local

unable to add bsg.bsg.local as an alternative name for the computer
the error is
cannot complete this function.

The computer rename preparation procedure is available only if the
functional level of the domain to which this computer is joined is
win server 03 or higher
the command failed to complete successfully.

I am using w2k SP2 support tools.

I dunno if I am even using the right command.

Hi Eric:

That is a very long document. Can you please be more specific as to where
the step is located that is causing you grief.

In my brief experience with ms commands, either the syntax is slightly off,
or some required preceding step was not done correctly. From the nature of
the reply, I'm guessing that you might need to expand some schema to get to
the same functional level on the new box.

But because I can't find the location of the command step, I can't review
for prior steps.

You are doing everything right Eric.
(BTW =96 the step is described on page 40 of the 43p. document)

I reproduced your situation on my test network. By default the Domain
and Forest Functional levels of the SBS2003 are windows 2000. You can
check this in Active Directory Domains and Trusts, right click the
properties of the domain.

Once I raised the Domain functional level (I intentionally left the
forest level at windows 2000 to check whether the command would run) I
was able to add the alias. The server responded correctly to that
alias.

It=92s interesting that the document doesn=92t mention anything about the
Domain Functional Level.

Anyway, we will be posting a series of Screencasts, demonstrating the
different SBS migration scenarios, at netometer.com.
Reading the MS document is a must but watching a live demonstration of
an SBS migration helps in such situations.

Thanks but I get tjis parameter is incorrect. I am running out of time. I
think I may just skip this step. I work another job tomorrow and cannot be
here. I should be here for another few hours. I do not understand why there
is not a set of inscrutions that work all the way through

Detailed message
netdom computername bsg1 /add:bsg.bsg.local
unable to connect to bsg.bsg.local
as an altrernate name for this computer.

THe error is L
the paremeter is incorrect.
type netdom help for more info.

If you're in that kind of crunch...a support call to MS maybe your =
better option as they can work through it directly with you

Had you ask in advance, most of us would have recommended using the =
swing migration method rather than this method for getting SBS onto new =
hardware.
