Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were with regards to
putting Microsoft Forefront security on a SBS Premium R2 server and
workstations. Is the product ready for prime time? Does it install
well or seriously impact the resources on a SBS lan? Is it cost
effective...or are there better solutions out there?

Also, a side note...does anyone think its necessary to put a Dell
Remote Access card on a server given that you access all those same
features from within the Dell Open Management console? Just
wondering?

Thanks

Ringo

On the side note a remote access card gives you the ability to get to the
machine even if it is not running, a feature not available from the
management console and it is not dependant on the installed OS.

Hi wedor,

Thank you for the reply. That I already knew, but my feeling is, if
the server is already down, a physical onsite visit is necessary
anyways as most likely hardware needs to be troubleshooted/replaced.
Are there any other feature benefits of a remote access card? Kindly
let me now and thank you for the response!

Ringo

It's reasonably common for a server to hang when rebooting after a Windows
Update and need a hard reset. Some remote access cards will allow you to do
some remote diagnostics as well. If you can pinpoint the problem you can
take any needed hardware with you. You can fix the problem with one service
call rather than two.

I don't believe Forefront works on SBS yet...

Hello Ringo,

Thank you for your post and thanks for all the helps.
My name is Gary Wang, and it is my pleasure to work with you on this issue!
Please allow me to confirm that my understandings are correct. As I
understand it, the issue is:

You want to get some suggestion about setup Microsoft Forefront on SBS
environment and put Dell Remote Access card on SBS server.

If I have misunderstood your concerns please feel free to let me know.

Suggestion :
==============
Firstly, please understand Microsoft cannot provide support for third party
hardware. So I will focus on the question about Forefront on SBS.

Based on my research, we would not able to install the complete Microsoft
ForeFront on the SBS 2003 server as only a portion of the application is
supported on the SBS server (only the Antigen part of it can be installed
on SBS 2003).

Also, I would like to suggest that you to use Technet Forum for Froefront
for which should be most relevant resource for your question:

More info:

Microsoft Forefront
http://www.microsoft.com/forefront/default.mspx

Microsoft Forefront Server Security

Hope the above info helps. Have a nice day!

Best regards,

Gary Wang(MSFT)
