    - OWA Redirect - almost got it Heya, SBS 2003 Standard Using OWA (Exchange SP2) SSL Certificate for webmail.companyname.com with Alternative remote.companyname.com webmail.companyname.com for Exchange remote.companyname.com for Remote Desktop / Remote Workspace page. I have done the following: Enabled Forms based Authentication Install SSL ceritficate at Default Site, forced 128bit Set Permissiosn on all root files to deny unless on local network. The challenge now, people are so use to typing http://servername/exchange or https://servername/exchange. Of course, this comes up with a certificate error because it is not part of the certificate. I originally thought about Wildcard domain names, but decided against because of cost mostly. I can't find a method of redirecting to https://webmail.companyname.com if they use the http://servername/exchange. I thought I could do it within the original asp file, buy using something like If Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_HOST") & Request.ServerVariables("URL") = "servername/exchange" then But this doesn't seem to work. I thought, if I could place or edit a file in the /exchange portion of the site that basically confirms it was accessed by webmail.companyname.com or otherwise redirects to the that host header.     - SBS 2003 SP1 setup "may not have been completed successfully" Today I ran the Windows SBS 2003 Best Practices analyzer and received one critical error stating that SBS 2003 SP1 had not been installed. One of the minor errors said that "Windows SBS 2003 Service Pack 1 setup may not have completed successfully." I know I installed this something like two years ago, and verified that it is in my Add/Remove Programs list. I'm not really sure where to begin troubleshooting this.     - Error Adding AD to domaine To All, When trying to add a second AD (as a back-up) on a Win2K server in my SBS domain I got the error: "Failed to modify the necessary properties for machine account..." "Acces denied" I have verified MS articles 250874, 232070 and 308311 but none helped. Some say you can't add a seccond AD to an SBS domain others says there is no reason why not.     - EFS Error 6028 Hi All This morning the server came up with this error message we are running sbs2003 sp1, Exchange 2003 I Google this, it said do the following Group Policy Management Tool, and looked at the Default Domain policy->Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings-> Security Settings->Public Key Policies and then clicked Encrypting File System. The certificate shows valid from 03/13/2004 to 13/03/2007. I believe the server was setup in March 2004. So it looks like the certificate was created with an expiration date of 3 years.     - Email - out of office assistance I have SBS2003 std with 15 local clients on site attached to the server. The clients use MS Outlook 2007 for email. All client email accounts are held with an ISP. the server downloads email from the ISP using pop3 and smtp automatically. One of my client notebooks will be out of the office and requires email access using a wireless connection to the ISP. 1. How do I prevent the server from downloading email from the ISP automatically for this client notebook when the notebook is not in the office? 2. How do I set up a notification message informing the senders that the recipient is out of the office. 3. When MS Outlook sets up the email account via the server on client PCs, the server details appear in outlook and is greyed out. Do I create a new profile specifically for this client notebook? 4.     - trouble with deleting unwanted user profile Hi, I have a question here in regards to deleting unused user profile from PCs that are connected to the server SBS 2003 domain. I have tried to delete it via my computer, properties, advance, and user profiles... from the workstation. It deleted most of the files and folders in that folder. However, it left a cookie folder in the folder. The problem is this cookie folder can not be deleted. it keeps saying "Access is denied". Then, i thought i could remove it if it was in the safe mode. So, i managed to get the workstation into the safe mode. However, i have problem with login. I tried to use my usual credential but to no avail. The other question i have is how do i login in safe mode? you can't use the same user credential as you normally can in windows mode, can you? My workstation runs on XP Pro.     - SBS2003/Exchange 2003 SP2 I hvae noticed that the Exchange log files within the MDBDATA folder have been around for months even though I have been receiving daily full backups (Monday - Friday).     - Question about SMB2k3 and Exchange server Hello, We are a small company that have an Exchange server up and running wit a pop3 connector configuration on our local domain: companyname.local. Within the LAN, everything is working nicely, but I would very muc like the users be able to reach the local exchange server from WA (Without OWA). I've done as much as to setup a dyndns.org addres "comapnyname.dyndns.org", but i'm not really sure what ports i need t open to ensure full functionality and what address to use. Can i simpl type the "companyname.dyndns.org" address in the "Exchange serve address:" field when i've opened the necessary ports and forwarded the to the exchange server? An alternative could be if I could connect to the server via the s called "SBS connection manager" and use the local address, would tha work?     - Multiple Email Domains Hi Windows SBS 2003 R2 Standard There is a KB article on hosting multiple email domains involving Recipient Policies, SMTP Connectors and bridging somewhere and I can't find it.     - Fax Routing and Printing I have a 2003SBS which we are using the fax service on. When I try to change the Printer to rout faxes to, I can not, It tells me that I do not have any printers installed, but I do. The printer installed is Shared Printer on another workstation.     - Strange error when attempting to clear Event Log (Security) I get the "Security Log is Full" error when I log onto my SBS 2003 SP1 server. No problem. I always save it before I vlear it. This time it gave me an error saying I could save it because "Access is denied". Never happend before as I always save a copy before I clear it. Any ideas?     - Virtual PC on SBS ? Hi have an enquiry from a potential customer. Two people miles apart that want shared access to email/files etc. I'm thinking about installing VPC on the SBS box and running a virtual XP machine for the remote one of the two of them.     - Allow Certain Program Installs on SBS 2003 Hello All, I have a question that I am having a hard time with. I work at a Dealership and our SBS 2003 is blocking access to a parts department computer when the user tries to install a monthly update to the parts catalog system. I know if I give the user admin rights, it will work fine, but of course that is not a good practice. It would be nice if there was a place to show what we being blocked when the user tries to do something that group policy, or the server prevents. Does anyone know where I might be able to allow that program to install perhaps with group policy or some other way? I have looked in the even viewer on workstation PC and this is what I see: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition -- Error 1920. Service 'SQL Server VSS Writer' (SQLWriter) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. Or This: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition - Update 'GDR 3068 for SQL Server Database Services 2005 ENU (KB948109)' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix\SQL9_Hotfix_KB948109_sqlrun_sql.msp.log.     - SBServer and TServer stopped talking I know I've screwed this up but I need help pls. This morning we couldn't get our Terminal Server to talk to the LAN. It would "see" all the devices, including the SBServer, but would get no further..... After a lot of resetting, re-routing, checking DHCP, DNS, etc, etc I finally tracked it down to a flakey LAN cable! However, during my fumbling arround I removed the server from SBS's list of Server Computers and the used the Wizard to add it back. It all looks fine, except SBServer doesn't seem to be recognising the this server as a Terminal Server. I've clutched at straws and re-reun the Remote Connection Wizard, and also re-started both systems, but it still doesn't appear on the list of servers you can connect to. If I look at it in My Netwrok Places, it shows up but as soon as I click on it I get: "\\name is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the admininistrator....... The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed" I'm sure something I've done has broke it. Can anyone help me fix it?     - Roaming Users Local Profile Hello All, I am having issues with some XP Pro computers on a network with SBS 2003 Premium. The problem is that when I set up a user on the domain, they are able to log onto the laptop assigned to them but as soon as they log out or restart all their settings are gone and the process starts over again. All settings including VPN, shared folders, desktop and my document contents, etc are wiped out and the user has to go through the first time logon again as though he/she had never logged on before. In other words, no local user profile is retained/maintained by the computer for the users for some reason. This happens even though I have given them local admin rights on their laptop.     - Traffic Routing and Content Filtering Hi All, Here is my setup. We have Cbeyond here at my office. VOIP and Internet all goes through the Cbeyond Router (Cisco) a single T-1 is used as Internet and VOIP. The Router is then plugged into our hub, then everything is distributed out to the desktops and server from there. Our server has Small Business Server 2003 R2 Premium Edition with 1 NIC. I beleive it has ISA 2004 but I am not sure. All desktops run XP Pro some SP2 some SP3. Currently the SBS is the DHCP. We use the Cbeyond Router as the Firewall and I do not have the Firewall setup on the SBS (which I would assume would be done through ISA 2004). I am wanting to control and filter internet traffic, however since our network is setup as 192.168.x.x, the Cbeyond Router will not allow me to make changes because it calls this a "non-standard configuration" and I have to go through Cbeyond Customer Service to make changes, so it is a pain in the rear end. Our previous network and devices were setup as 192.168.x.x, so I am not changing it. Cbeyond wants to use 10.x.x.x format, if you use anything else, they won't let you have control of the router. What I am trying to say is, I want to be able to control access through the Cbeyond Firewall, but I can't so now I want to be able to use the ISA 2004 (I am guessing this is what I would use). A few questions though. Would I have to have 2 NICs to be able to do this? Do I have to have the internet physically running through the server, or can I leave the network how it is setup now and have Cbeyond point all internet traffic to the server's IP address. Would I just point the inbound or both inbound and outbound. I'm just not sure how it would all work out. The server is currently in the President's office to keep people from trying to access it. I have a network switch setup in his office so that his computer and server both use the same ethernet wall plug, so I would not be able to switch the cables around to have the internet run directly through the server unless I move it or have another line put in. Of course the big man wants to do this at minimal cost to the company considering the state of our economy. Sorry to have been so wordy, but I am trying to explain everything.     - Remote Users Internet SBS2003 R2 Premium ISA2004 I'm looking into Web Filtering SaaS from Webroot for remote users, purely because when out of the office ISA isn't there to be connected too. http://www.emailsystems.com/webservices.php As we are only running 1 broadband connection I've never considered making users use a VPN to the office for there internet surfing as it would be way too slow. IÂ´ve tested to put their users in the domain power user group but they still cant install. Not until I put them in the domain administrator group.     - Increasing broadband bandwidth Hi sbs 2003 standard. We have a typical 2 nic setup where our external nic is connected to a broadband router. We are running short on the broadband bandwidth as we get an external backup done through it but also upload large files to our external ftp site.     - Event 1000 Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Error Hi I'm using Small Business Server 2003. At 3 am this morning, my MSSQL$Sharepoint service stopped running and the server restarts by itself, most probably due to an update. And this morning when I came to work, I discovered that when I try to access http://companyweb/, I receive the "Cannot connect to the configuration database." error message. I followed KB823287 and KB833183, but still couldn't access the website. I managed to ping, nslookup, and even login to the SQL server successfully. I checked my Events Log, and discovered that the Event 1000 Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Error appeared almost every 5 seconds. The error description reads, "#50070: Unable to connect to the database STS_Config on servername\MICROSOFT##SSEE. Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running." Besides, it sometimes accompanied with a 18456 Failure Audit, which reads, "The description for Event ID ( 18456 ) in Source ( MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details.     - Add New servers to an existing active directory domain. A vendor is installing Microsoft CRM, Project server, Sharepoint server and SQL server on two new servers running MS Server Standard 2008. They want us to have our existing SBS 2003 server acting as our domain controller and active directory and file and print and exchange. The other servers are going to act as an applications server (for sharepoint, project amd CRM and the other will act as a database server (SQL) I have the servers up and running but I am unsure of how to add them to our network - any assistance would be gratefully recieved.     - RDC To some pc's Hi. I have a problem that came up about two days ago with RDC to certain pc's. I have been running SBS2003 SP2, OWA, RWW with out a hitch. Then all of a sudden RDC to certain pc's won't work. Get Error: " Client could not connect, too busy, network problems, try again later" in short. I can RDC locally and publicly (WAN) to the SERVER and a COUPLE of pc's through RWW. This tells me the router is still configured properly with ports and such.     - Remote assistance will not launch. Please help System. Windows 2003 SBS standard SP2 all patches up to date. I have a strange problem where I canâ??t get remote assistance to launch on this system. The problem seems to be that the remote assistance application will not start. I see the problem regardless of which side makes the request. Note Iâ??ve been trying to debug this with systems that are local to the lan. I can get other machines to remote assist each other so the problem is not anything to do with port mapping. It is simply that for some reason the remote assistance application will not start on the SBS system. In all of these examples the user on the sbs machine is the administrator. Example 1: Windows Server 2003 requests assistance to another system. 1) I have Windows Messenger 5.1 running on the SBS 2003 machine 2) I request remote assistance via help and support or either via messenger. 3) The request is sent to the expert machine. 4) The â??expertâ?? accepts the request. 5) I get a message on the SBS â??noviceâ?? system indicating that the expert has accepted the request 6) The expert systems launches the remote assistance application 7) The remote assistance application never launches on the SBS machine. Actually nothing seems to happen on this machine 8) On the â??expertâ?? machine I get the dialog box stating â??Remote Assistance cannot connect because (username) denied the request for help. Where (username) is the windows messenger username. Example 2: Request from the XP â??noviceâ?? machine to remote assistance to the SBS â??expertâ?? machine 1) From within messenger on the â??noviceâ?? XP machine ask the user on the SBS machine for assistance. 2) Within Messenger on the SBS machine I get a request for remote assistance. 3) The SBS user accepts the request. 4) Messenger on the SBS â??Expertâ?? machine says you have accepted the request 5) Messenger on the XP indicates that the invitation has been accepted. 6) Nothing further happens on the SBS â??expertâ?? machine. I seen KB article kb330113 Remote Assistance, Application Sharing, or Whiteboard Session Does Not Start After Remote Computer Accepts Your Invitation but this refers to having both windows messenger and msn messenger installed on the same machine. When trying to access this website internally, an authentication window pops up, saying the server xyz.com at WebAdmin requires a username and password. I am not able to get around this trying by supplying user/pw or domain/user/pw. I have added host header values in IIS for xyz and xyz.com on the internal IP address but it doesn't make a difference.     - POP3 error I have 1 user who is not able to get his e-mails. We are using the POP3 connector and everyone other than him can receive e-mails with no problems. I have setup up a test account in Outlook and can retrieve with no problems. The event viewer is showing a "10060" error. I have deleted the pop3 mailbox and recreated it with no luck.     - DFS replication between Windows Sever 2003 R2 & SBS Hello, We have a Windows Sever 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2(hostname is Mars) running on Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.4GHz and a Windows Sever 2003 for Small Business Server SP2(hostname is Doublehelix) running on Dual Core AMD Opteron Processor 270 @ 2.01GHz. They are on the same sub-network but in different locations and domains(lakescom.net & blcomfor.local). Each of them is a domain computer of the other one. Doublehelix has most of our important data, applications and MSSQL services only. A fault tolerance/disaster recovery solution is necessary for us. If Doublehelix goes down, users can still access data and run programs on Mars. First, we created DFS roots and linked them to share folders on both servers, and then tried DFS replication group for data collection on Mars but failed. The error said â??Doublehelix.lakescom.net: the service control manager cannot be opened. Access is deniedâ??. We are not sure if the reason is, that not all new functionality (snap in's) are showing after doublehelix upgraded to SBS R2, specifically the DFS management console. Could you please tell me what would cause this problem? In our case, is the DFS replication possible and enough for us? If so, how can we implement it? Does one domain have to be removed? Do we need to upgrade one or both servers? If so, which edition (2003 Enterprise/2008)? Is Severs-Cluster or High-Availability system applicable and necessary? Any other solution available?     - Problem after removed "domain users" from "local administrator"s g Hello all, We are running SBS 2003 SP1 Premium with approx 14 workstations running Windows XP Pro SP2. We finally decided to remove the "domain users" group from the "local administrators" group on the workstations and since doing that we have a strange problem happening. The users can log on the network successfully but then they can not start any programs - as soon as I reverse this setting everything is fine again. This does not make sense to me - has anyone come across this before?     - Server/Drive Speed I have taken on a client who had a Dell Precision Workstation (2.x GHz P4 with 1 GB RAM) converted to a server (SBS 2003). They have 2 IDE hard drives (1 for OS and one for Data). They seem to be having a lot of random problems with email: Exchange and SMTP services stopping or not starting, Queues occasionally not emptying, ... Can hardware speed have effects on such things. I am considering suggesting that we flatten the server and start over, or that they put it back into service as a workstation and buy an new "SERVER" with RAID drives, etc. Any thought would be greatly appreciated. Also they are fairly low budget; do current SATA drives perform adequately to handle all of the tasks necessary for domain control and email. Once in awhile the desktop machines will get an error because they are trying to use the server as the proxy instead of going directly to the internet.     - Problems Reinstalling Intranet (WSS 2.0 & CompanyWeb) I'm running SBS 2003 SP1. I had installed WSS 3.0, side-by-side install using the docs, and then removed it. I am now having problems with the intranet (WSS 2.0 & CompanyWeb). I followed directions from MS Support (829114) but I cannot reinstall the Intranet component now.     - Domain Users cant execute applications on SBServer This is SBS 2003 R2 Premium as Domain Controller, with Server 2003 for Terminal Services. Remote users can log-in to the Terminal Server and execute applications on there, including Outlook and the usually installed applications. However, one group application is installed on the SBServer and when a non-Adminstrator user tries to run this they get the error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appopriate permissions to access the item" I've checked the user are members of the Remote Web Workplace group, and that the application they are accessing lives in folders which have Full Control permissions for Everyone.     - Aol and Hotmail marking sbs mail as spam The olny reason I can think of is the mail goes through a Backup MX server before it gets to me and the IP where the mail is sent and the IP of the domain don't match up, but that doesn't seem to be like it should make a difference.     - Internet Connection Timeouts & Failures Hi, We are encountering â??Error Code 10060 Connection Timeoutâ?? errors very regularly (5% - 10% of our web requests) ever since we replaced our SBS 2000 (running on old hardware) with SBS 2003 R2 Premium (running on a new). Most pages that donâ??t â??timeoutâ?? load slowly. This happens on the server itself as well as for our users. Weâ??re running ISA 2004 and it appears to be configured correctly (no errors or warnings from the ISA Best Practices Analyzer). Iâ??ve configured the new server to match the old server wherever possible and weâ??re using the default Firewall rules. There were no changes to the network topography or hardware, and weâ??re using the same broadband provider & level of service. All our users are running XP Pro, are using the SBS Firewall client and have the same security privileges. We donâ??t block any sites or restrict any traffic. The Firewall monitor shows â??alertsâ?? that there are â??timeoutsâ?? and sometimes that there is â??no connectivityâ??. I get matching entries in the Application Event log (see details below). Any ideas on how to improve our internet response time would be greatly appreciated. Seems all the patches were applied EXCEPT Windows SBS 2003 SP1, Win2003 SP2 was already applied. I guess there are some updates to the POP connector and a few other SBS only updates in SBS SP1. My question is, will there be any issues applying SBS SP1 if 2003 SP2 has already been applied? Will I have to re-install SP2 after the SBS SP1 update is applied?     - SBS 2003 licensing I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I have a SBS server in local office with the original 5 user CALs. We have up to 7 users although only 4-5 usually access the server at any one time. We have a remote office that has workstations that connect to the server to run various applications. They are using Terminal server. All workstations are XP Pro. We set up a backup server at the remote office which uses VPN, mounted disk and backup software to backup the server. The backup server worked fine at suppliers and could connect and backup OK when tested. When it was installed at the remote office it originally worked Ok but we are now experiencing connection problems; the VPN fails to connect. The remote workstations often experience problems as well. I sometimes have trouble using Remote Desktop Connection from my home office to the server as well. It has been suggested that the problem is related to licensing. If it is a licensing issue do we need more User CALs or do we need Termnal Server CALs?     - Problem sending faxes with a cover page SBS 2003 R2 We are running SBS 2003 recently upgraded from SP1 to R2. When we try to send a fax through the server with a cover page the fax disappears and the following error is generated in the servers application log: _ Event Type: Error Event Source: Microsoft Fax Event Category: Outbound Event ID: 32090 Date: 7/8/2008 Time: 12:48:07 PM User: N/A Computer: % Description: The fax was not submitted successfully. I'm trying to load a new msde instance in sbs 2003. I run the install
command from the comand line and the install starts. Just before it should
be finished it rolls back and does not install. No error message is given.
I've tried the bug fix in KB 299351, but that did not work.

Any ideas?

I know this isn't an answer to your problem (sorry), but MSDE is getting
rather long in the tooth so have you considered migrating to its successor
SQL Server 2005 Express?
