Hi,

Could someone please help me I've searched high and low for an answer for
the problem I've been having since replacing a SBS2003 server within an
organisation.
Only Difference I can find is that the new server is running SBS2003 R2.

Problem is that when a client computer on the domain clicks on either a URL
link or Mailto: link from within any third-party application installed on
their desktops it doesn't work - nothing happen's, it's like they didn't
click the link at all.
Applications tested on are MYOB and a Database application
However links from within IE and Office do work correctly

I've never come accross this before and believe it has something to do with
perhaps a new default policy applied with SBS2003 R2
I've ensured the Default Domain Policy has been applied to the server with
no changes
Clients are on XP SP2 - all latest updates installed
Server is SBS2003 R2 SP2 - all latest updates installed

I've checked the URL and Mailto: association's on both the server and
desktop computers
(I've checked this on the server as one of the applications is a server
based application/database which has client software... wasn't sure if the
Shell Execute code was calling things on the client machine or the server -
but after further tests it appears it's local on the client machines...)

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Kind Regards
Tushka

Further information sorry forgot to post that the Server is running SBS2003
R2 Premium - SQL is installed but ISA is not.
Database Application is using SQL as the backend - Application is installed
on the server and Client software on the desktops... URL and Mailto links on
the client computers and also if installing the client software on the server
don't work

Cheers

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you unable to click the
URL in the 3rd-party application. If I have misunderstood the problem,
please don't hesitate to let me know.

First, from you description we know you can click the URL in IE or Office
without problem, the problem only happen on the 3rd-party application
client on workstation. Therefore, this is mostly a 3rd-party application
issue. I suggest you contact the 3rd-party application vendor for help.

Note: We unable to check the code of the 3rd-party application, we do not
know what action the 3rd-party application will do after you click the URL.
Therefore, we unable to troubleshoot this issue in SBS newsgroup.

Generally, SBS group policy will not affect the any 3rd-party application.

Additionally, this is maybe a network configuration issue. I suggest you
run the CEICW on SBS to configure the network:

Go through the follow KB and rerun CEICW carefully.

Thanks for your understanding and have a nice day!
