Hello All

I previously had indexing service running on SBS2003 Premium nicely indexing
the contents of the shared document folders on SBS with a link (via Simon
Gibson's ASP search) to the companyweb home page which gave a very convenient
way for our staff to search all company documents.

When I went to use it the other day, I could not find any(!) documents.
Checking the indexing service, it now only lists 30 documents being indexed
rather than the several thousand I had previously.

If I reindex, I don't get any more. If I start a new index and add the
appropriate directory, still no more.

I allowed WSUS to upgarde windows desktop search to clients and servers, I
don't know if this has messed something up.

I don't want to use windows search on clients and server as it slows down
all the machines, I want it to work the way it did before.

Any tips or pointers? Any more information I can give to narrow down the
problem.

I have various versions of SQL server installed, I don't know if this could
have affected anything.

TIA

Inigo

If you don't want to use windows search then it doesn't need to be installed
(it isn't a default component of SBS anyways.) And then WSUS won't try to
update it. It is possible the update broke the indexing service as the
dll's they use are intermingled.

Hello Cliff

Thanks for the response.

I have uninstalled Windows search, uninstalled indexing service and
reinstalled indexing service. Still the same problem.

I was wondering if there was any way I could find out which 30 documents it
had chosen to index, this might point me in the right direction.

Thanks
