Is there a setting on the Exchange server that allows a person so set
a server-side rule to automatically send to an external address? For
example: John Smith is in the GAL. Since John travels all the time, he
wants anyone (internal or external) to be able to send to his account
in the GAL and have it -- via a set rule -- send to his AOL email
account.

No rule is needed. Add John's AOL address as an AD contact. Under John's
properties-Exchange General-Delivery Options add that contact to be
forwarded to.

Yes, launch Server Mangement, click 'User', double click the required user,
click 'Exchange General', 'Delivery Options' and specify that email to this
user is forwarded to an external address and if required, keep a copy in his
local mailbox. You'll need to use ADUC to create a Mail Enabled contact,
specifying his external AOL address. Forward mail to the mail enabled
contact.

Regards Colin.

Chris, he doesn't wanna forward. He wants the mail to go to his inbox
(under John Smith) AND be sent to his AOL account. I'm not sure how
or what Colin and Steve are saying to do...however, this is for the
CIO!

Go to AD Users and Computers and drill down through MyBusiness -> Users.
R-click SBSUsers and click New -> Contact. Fill out the first page of the
wizard, adding something to differentiate the information from the actual
user account in SBSUsers (for example, instead of John Smith, name it John
Smith - AOL). On the second page, click the button to enter an e-mail
address, choose SMTP, and add his AOL address.

Now open the properties of the actual user account in SBSUsers and go to the
Exchange General page. Click Delivery Options and in the Forward To box,
choose the AD contact you created above. Click the box to send to both the
internal mailbox and the contact. TEST this before telling the boss it's
working.

Cris is referring to two better options for remote access to e-mail, OWA and
Outlook RPC over HTTP. The latter is really the best option - it lets him
get his e-mail using his regular Outlook profile on his laptop. He can do
this from anywhere he has an e-mail connection, and he can work offline at
other times. You might want to read up on that option - SBS does all the
work for you, so if you find a document that makes it look complex, it
doesn't apply to SBS.

I just want to add wieght to Cris' and Dave's comments about 'handling it
better'. Outlook RPC over HTTPS does sound like the best option, with OWA
close 2nd, the 'forward' or 'copy' to another address just makes it harder
for the user to manage mail.
