Hi all,

I have an SBS 2003 Server (SP2 + R2), and recently added a 2nd Windows 2003
R2 Server to the domain as an Application Server. When logged on as any SBS
Domain user (even as the Domain Administrator) on the application server, I
can run/execute any program on the local disks, but when I try to run or
install a program accross the network I get the following error:

"Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have
appropriate permissions to access the item."

However, if I log on to the application server with the local administrator
account, I can run programs across the network. Domain users on the XP Pro
workstations can also run programs from across the network.

So it appears as if there is a policy being enforced by the SBS server which
disallows logged on domain users on additional servers from running
executables across the network.

Help. Can anyone shed light on this?

Thanks.

If I log on as any SBS user (even with Domain Admin rights) I can not run
programs across the network.

It appears as if SBS

If I read correctly, it sounds more like permissions on the folders you
are trying to execute from. Do you have the proper permissions set on
those folders via the share AND security?

It's IE protecting you. Not sure if it's tied to IE Enhanced Security mode
being implemented for admin but not standard users.

Thanks. I don't think it is a folder permission problem, because if I log on
to an XP Pro workstation or even the SBS Server as the domain administrator,
there are no problems - I can run all programs across the network. It is only
when logged on to the application server that I can't run the programs (in
the same folders, as the same user).

Hi, I tried both ways, using the Wizard and Manually - same result.

I _hope_ you have seen my reply that IE is giving you grief.

Hey - awesome, thank you. It was IE7 with SP2 that was the problem. I had
tried before to add the SBS server to the trusted sites list but it had added
it with "http://". One of the fixes suggested adding it as \\SVSSVR\ which
lists it as "file://". Now I can run all programs across network. Thank you
for your invaluable assistance.
