Hi,
Recently the companyweb page has started asking a couple of users (not
all) for there logon credentials. These users are internal and not external
where for obvious reasons, they are asked for credentials. They have been
working in the past without any logon credentials needed. Now, the
credential box comes up and if they press ok or cancel 3 times it allows them
access to the site, then, depending on what you are doing the credential box
will reappear.
I have checked IIS and the companyweb is set for ntlm authentication. If
there is anyone that has any thoughts on this it would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Ken,

This seems like an issue with old cached user credentials. You might want
to go to the Control Panel and clear any saved entries under 'Manage my
network passwords', for the account who are causing the problem.

The website is set for NTLM authentication? Where were you checking this?
NTLM is not an option in the usual location that would control end-user
authentication, so I'm wondering if you wandered off into the wrong place
when checking things out.

As far as companyweb goes, you should be able to right-click on it in the
IIS manager->properties->Directory Security tab->Edit button under
Authentication and Access control->Integrated Windows Authentication should
be checked.

If it isn't then that is your problem, but you should investigate, WHO,
WHAT, AND WHY it got changed.

Hi Cliff,
Sorry, you are correct that is what is checked off in IIS...I was working
on another problem at another site and had NTLM on my brain.....it was
Integrated Windows Authentication that is checked off in IIS under the
properties of the Companyweb.

While you're at it verify, on the problematic users' computers, that
your companyweb URL is specified in the 'Intranet' sites list in
Internet Options. You may get repeated login prompts is it's not.

Problem Solved. Recently I changed the company logo on the companyweb and
the security on the file itself "c:\program files\common files\microsoft
shared\.....logo.jpg" did not include the Authenticated users group, so
essentially there was no permissions for this file when the user looked at
the main companyweb page... Does anyone know the correct way to change the
logo through sharepoint, as opposed to just copying the file into the above
path? Thannks.

That's the location to put it.

It's a virtual directory for images in the companyweb site. When you
dragged it in there, wasn't the Domain Users group added to the image file
with read&execute credentials?

unfortunately no. Only the administrators had the rights on that file...not
sure how that happened, but at least i discovered it. I was wondering if one
of the wizards in sharepoint asks you what pic you want for the logo or was
the way i did it (minus the security goof), the only way to change the logo?
Thannks for your assistance on this

The logo image is a Web Part, and its properties (one of which is the path
to the file) can be changed through the interface where you typed the name.

You don't have to use the web part, but instead edit the page directly in an
html editor or SharePoint Designer and place the logo image anywhere you
like, but that implies that you are familiar with HTML (to be able to add an
image on the site).

When I dragged a file to the file path that points to the images directory,
the domain users group was added with Read & Execute permissions. Not sure
why your didn't add it. I think manually applying the security permissions
to the file, is better than going through the hassle of editing the HTML.
