I have some users getting this error when hitting the link that arrives in
their Outlook Inbox for an inbound fax alert. They can still push through
and view the fax but I don't understand why they are getting the error.

General FAilure. The URL was:
http://companyweb/incoming%20Faxes/1CBAC51E3D848.tif. an error occured in
sending the command to the application

Is it possible that the user is using Firefox as their default browser? I
searched on the Internet and these kind of errors seem to be associated with
this browser

Nope. All of the clients are either IE6 or 7. Firefox is not even installed
on the clients.

Richard, have you figured out why your users are getting that error? I have
a user with the same problem. When we click the links in the message, we
have no trouble.

I have not found the answer yet, but at least it's more of an "annoyance"
than anything else.
