hi just been informed that the secretary views her bosses email via owa ,
(inside the network), via home page , & this used to be ok, she could flag &
read / delete as necessary, and all the emails would stay in there until the
boss connected his notebook and recieved them , now she says that when she
checked this morning it had 80 emails in there, & she just checked it again
this afternoon and it only had 11 new emails in it, she said that the boss
has not been into his account all day, so im wondering where they could have
gone to ?? or be stored ??,

Hope this makes sence to someone out there and you can offer help please,

Gregory

If you are asking whether accessing he mailbox via OWA can cause this
behavior, the simple answer is no. I can't see any reason, even technical,
why this could be laid at the feet of OWA. PEBKAC possibly?

As far as where the messages could be at, first place I'd look is in the
deleted items folder. Secondly, try running the message tracking utility in
the exchange MMC. Hope that helps...

well after further checking , it seems that only the bosses account loses
email, example = user logs on with owa flags 3 emails on 1st page , goes to
next or last page , read email then goes back to 1st page & the flagged email
is gone, missing, so im at a total loss withthis & not sure what to do next ,
any advise would be great ,

Hello Gregory,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that the flagged emails will be
missing on one of your mailbox account. If I have misunderstood the
problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, this is mostly like the Outlook rules cause this
issue. The Outlook rules could move or delete the emails which be flagged.
I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve this issue:

1. Please open the boss's Outlook, click on Tools -> Rules and Alerts, do
you find any rule here? If yes, please delete them, then test.

2. Please open boss's mailbox via OWA, click Rules in left pane. do you
find any rule here? If yes, please delete them, then test.

3. Please try to rebuild the boss's mailbox attributes and then test this
issue.

Recreate the mailbox attributes.
=========================

1) Use Outlook or exmerge tool to export mailbox to PST file.

To use the Import and Export Wizard in Outlook:
a. On the File menu in Outlook, click Import and Export.
b. Under "Choose an action to perform", click "Export to a personal folder
file (.pst)", and then click Next.
c. Click to select the MAPI folder that you want to share, and then click
Next.
d. Save the PST file.

To use Exmerge, refer to the following article:
174197 XADM: Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Merge Program (Exmerge.exe)
Information
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=174197

2) Open the PST file from some other Outlook client to verify if we can
access inbox in the PST file.

3) If the PST file is good, go to ADUC (Active Directory Users and
Computers), right-click the problematic user and then click Exchange tasks.
Select remove exchange attributes.

4) Right-click the user again and then click Exchange tasks. Select create
mailbox.

5) Log on the mailbox and import PST back into mailbox using Exmerge or
Outlook.

4. Do you install any antivirus or antispam software on SBS or client
computer? If yes, please disable it and test this issue.

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
help me collect some information for further investigation:

1. Does this issue happen on other user's mailboxes?

2. Does this issue happen when you flag the boss's email via Outlook?

3. Gather MPS network report on SBS:

a. Download MPSrepot_network from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE

b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe on the server box.

c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will
take 10~15 minutes.

d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
%SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\

e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu@microsoft.com

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)
