    - google maps mobile I have a toshiba e800 pocketpc2003se pda and was running goggle maps just fine up to about a week ago - since then it's been not loading with the message "This program requires a data connection. Please contact your carrier or visit www.google.com/gmm/configure.html on your computer for more info. (Error: wininetHttpError [0 12150]}" nothing's changed in the configuration of the PDA nor the wireless network uninstalled, reinstalled - uninstalled, reinstalled - same thing hit retry (1kb..2kb..) "This program requires a data connection.." hit retry (3kb..4kb..) "This program requires a data connection.." hit retry (5kb..6kb..) "This program requires a data connection.." 18k - 20 k etc ugh..     - Call recording Crippled? I would like to record my phone calls on a moto Q9h with Windows Mobile 6 Standard. (CE OS 5.2.1440) However it seems that support for this is crippled. (which is lame because i paid for this phone and shouldn't be subject to such limitations) Its also very difficult to find any reliable information on this subject.     - Contacts problem Hi In contacts, the mobile no we key in is also the text msg no. But in some countries, to make a call, we may have special prefixes to make IDD calls. For example, say a person's mobile no in HK is +852-64321234. To SMS, we need the no +852-64321234, but to call him, we use prefix "019", so we would dial 01985264321234. If I change the mobile no, then the text msgs will be sent to 01998526431234, instead of +852-64321234. Can't we separate mobile no with text msg no?     - Error: 1706 (Word, or just in Windows?) Hi, A friend of mine asked me to help with a problem she has every time she starts Word. She gets a message that says: "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the Microsft Word 2002 disk and click OK." Then below this, it says, "Use source:" and the default is, "Works Suite Word CD or DVD." Hitting [CANCEL] gets the following message: "Error: 1706: Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\1033\Setup.hlp." I have checked online sources, as well as my own personal Guru (I'm *her* Guru - she comes to me with stuff *she* can't fix, but when *I* don't know something, I have another friend that *I* consult, who knows more than I do, IYKWIM.), and have come up with no answers that pertain to this particular situation. Since this happens EVERY SINGLE TIME SHE OPENS WORD, it's naturally driving her a little batty, as it would me. Here's how my friend explains what she did that seemed to have triggered this problem: ************************************************************ There is an option in Windows that lets you download East Asian fonts. I did this so I could read Japanese kanji characters. It was apparently successful, but now, every time I try to run Word, I get a notice that I have to put the "Word 2002" disk in. I then hit CANCEL, and the computer says something like, okay, then let me configure Word -- and then it brings up Word and lets me in it. You'd think that having done this once, it wouldn't need to do it again. Oh, no, my friend. It goes through this rigamarole every single time I run Word. Please make it stop. In case it helps, here's what I did to download the fonts. (Basically, it's Start, Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Add other languages, Install Files for East Asian Languages.) There were two "tips" in the instructions that said: (1) "During the process, you may need to insert the XP CD so the relevant files can be copied across to your computer." (2) "A typical Windows XP CD will have a folder on the disk called "i386." This entire folder can be copied to the hard drive and then can be referenced for anything needing the WinXP Disk. When a program asks you for the CD, select the path on the hard drive where you copied this folder to." ************************************************************ Is there anyone out there who either has had this problem or has something I can try short of uninstalling Word/Works 2002 and getting and installing Office 2007, and preferably not messing with the registry, if at all possible? (I've done this, but only with my Guru on the phone and ONLY on my OWN PC - i.e., if I screw up, it's only MYSELF that suffers, IYKWIM!)     - Windows update June 10 2008 Wiped Out Desktop I ran the critical update (Vista) and it wiped out the desktop, leaving a blank slate. Each time I restart there is a lenghty message in Chinese with "ok" as the only option. I ran system restore to get back to the time just before this update, which restored my desktop. I am convinced that this update is buggy and should not be installed without a deep backup in place. It works fine with XP but not with Vista in my set of machines.     - Mini USB headset with microphone for Ipaq 200? Does it exist? For I have a Ipaq 200, which among other things, I would like to be able to use for Skype. I have a bluetooth earpeice which I have already paired to the Ipaq 200, and that works pretty well, but what I would like to do is use a mini usb headset that also has a mic on it, and simply plug this into the mini usb connector at the bottom of the device. This is both for quality, as a usb audio device is sure going to sound a lot better than a bluetooth device, and also because if it plugs into the device, I do not have to worry about charging a bluetooth device. I will be using the device with Skype quite often, and it would be so nice to simply plug in a device. You can buy lots of USB headset/mic combos for a PC/laptop, but is this even an option for a Windows Mobile 6 device such as the Ipaq 200? Does the mini usb device on the Ipaq 200 even support devices such as a headset/mic? I have searched around, and I have not found anything.     - Some SW that triggers regular syncs via BlueTooth? I was wondering the other day: I have two high-end devices here (a laptop and a top-of-the-line WM6 device) that work nicely together, both BlueTooth enabled, synchronization via BT works fine. Why do *I* always have to *manually* trigger a resync? And if I forget to do that I only realize on the road, that the last couple of entries or changes I did in Outlook *again* didn't make it onto my PDA before I left :-( Is there some SW or utility that would regularly (e.g. each hour - or ideally: after some change in Outlook) connect via BT, trigger an AS synchronization and then disconnect again.     - O2 XDA Stellar (Tytn II) buttons stopped working This is driving me crazy the buttons on my XDA have stopped working. None of the buttons under the screen work, the camera button does work, the jog wheel doesn't work (although if I press it, it brings up the start menu), the voice command and ok buttons don't work. The on/off button seems to be OK. I've checked the soft buttons are correctly assigned in Start>Settings>Buttons I've downloaded and installed MyMobiler (which allows control from the desktop) the notes, messaging, contacts and calendar buttons on the toolbar at the bottom of the Mymobiler screen on the PC all function but the talk and call end buttons don't.     - ActiveSync not removing deleted messages from ppc inbox I have deleted several email messages in my outlook 2007 inbox. After I sync my ppc the email messages haven't been deleted from the ppc. Would this be a problem with the account name on the ppc? If this is the problem, is there a way to make the default Outlook account on the ppc the same as the account on my pc so that the messages on the ppc will be deleted after an ActiveSync?     - ppc with a sensative built in gps i recently bought an ipaq RX5935 pda (second hand) with built in gps, but the gps part leaves a lot to be desired, its very insensative, takes ages to get a lock (like 20-25 minutes) looses the signal the second a tree is in view, i've got the updated firmware for the gps reciever, but it dosent help, some people say theirs works fine, others say it's just not good at all. i've also got a garmin nuvi 250w, and that thing can get a sat lock inside as long as it can see a window, only the densest forrests loose the signal, and it gets it back as soon as an opening in the tree cover is around, and it gets a sat lock within seconds of being turned on. but i want a pda so i can run a few different mapping proggies, topo and road navigation maps, as well as some geocaching proggies and other stuff you need a ppc for. So is there a pda out there that has a built in gps that is as good as on the garmin nuvi's? i dont mind a small antenna sticking out the case if it helps it get a good signal. i need wifi and bluetooth, minumum 3.5" screen, preferably 4", sd card slot, a good battery life (4 hours plus), and i must be able to get a proper vehicle mount for it, something a few pda's just dont seem to have, as i'll use it on my motorbike, a universal pda mount is no good.     - ActiveSync again and again replacing ALL data on one device Until about 2 weeks ago I was perfectly happy with ActiveSync synchronizing my HTC TyTN II with my Windows XP/Outlook XP laptop, but now this combination suddenly has developed the nasty habit, that about every second time, when I connect, it declares, that synchronization is screwed up (my words) and asks me whether I want to merge the data of the device and this computer or whether I want to replace all data on one device with the data on the other and in which direction the replace should take place. This full replacement is not only tediously long (it takes about 15-20 minutes instead of the "normal" 1-2 minutes), one also has to confirm the overwriting multiple times (for different types of data like files, calendar, tasks, etc.) and of course this does not really *sync* the data but rather overwrites one device's data set with the other's, so if one happens to have changed data on both since the last sync, then one devices modifications are lost. Can one somehow stop this craze and force AS to do a proper resync such that if afterwards considers both sides as in sync again? What could possibly cause AS to repeatedly consider things to be so fatally out of sync that it thinks it can only recover by taking that last resort and resync all?     - TIlt accessories Hope someone here can answer this. I have the AT&T Tilt phone and, so far, am happy with it. I have been told by 2 different sales people at the AT&T wireless store there is a device I can plug into the Tilt to listen to music. BUT, not the typical earbud device. My wife likes the earbuds. I like the old-timey headphones. The device I am trying to find is an adapter(?) that plugs into my phone but has a jack that allows me to plug in headphones or earbuds to the other end.     - Snooze for 1 week? I have reminders on my WM6 pocketpc (Verizon XV6700) but when they pop up, the "snooze" options only go up to a max of 1 day. On my Entourage (Mac) desktop client, I get the option of 1 week snooze. Both of these are synchronizing calendar to an Exchange server.     - Sending emails from WM5 device to Outlook Hi all, I'm trying to figure out a way to send emails from WM5 to Outlook. Sounds easy, but theres a the catch. My phone uses activesync (exchange) to sync mails/calendar etc. from my companys server (let's call it myCompany) and also uses another Push Email program to sync emails/calendar from another Exchange (let's call this otherCompany). This way the calendars are combined but mails sync to different folders: myCompany to default Outlook E-mail -folder and otherCompany to Other-folder. This is fine by me, but because I can't read these otherCompany mails anywhere else that phone I would like to have these mails sent to computer (easier to read and answer). The computer has a Outlook installed but it doesn't use any Exchange or other ways to get mail. In other way said I would use Outlook only to get mails from phone and send them back (to be sent forward).     - Disable start and stop recording sounds? Please could anyone tell me how to disable the start and stop recording sounds in Windows Mobile 6? I don't want to remove all sounds and notifications from programs, and these annoying sounds do not show up in the Sounds and Notifications section of Settings. So I found one of the offending sounds in the Windows folder and tried to rename and then delete it. How can I delete files in my Windows folder? This is just an annoying sound - it's not like it's an important system file. Failing any of this, can anyone recommend an alternative sound recording software? Obviously, one that doesn't chirrup maniacally when you ask it to start. (Actually, thinking about it, this is becoming my preferred option - getting rid of yet more Microsoft annoying-ware!)     - WM6 Recurring Appointments Are Losing Colour One of our users categorises his appointments using colour coding. He is having a problem with recurring appointments losing their colour setting after being synchronised to a HTC Touch phone running Windows Mobile 6.     - Setting WINCEROOT WM5.0 I am trying to get started using Platform Builder 5 for Windows Mobile so that I can build an OS using our BSP. The problem I have is that I am getting invalid folder for WINCEROOT and when I point this to C:\WM500 it says that this folder is invalid. I believe the issue is that the version of PB I installed is tools only. This version of PB I downloaded from the JetStream server and only gives an option for tools only! So my question is what do I have to do the get the tools to be able to build the OS? Could someone possibly point this doom brain in the right direction? Hi

I have a tytnII and there is copilot gps software installed.

I like to travel to remote areas (north Laos, south china, etc) and I would
like to be able to map my travel and to know where I am at any particular
time. I may also wish to create some maps of Laos and I would like to
understand how to associate them with my gps device. I have some basic
freeware gps software that will give my current coordinate, and also a
licenced version of mapking7 for thailand, but I am struggling to understand
how I to get lao maps. I dont need anything at the street level - just some
way of finding my location on a map in real time.
