Delete Task categories?
I've had PocketBreeze installed on my iPAQ 2210 for several years. I
thought I'd just tidy up some of its settings, starting with deleting
a few unwanted task categories. But darned if can find out how to do
it. PB uses the 'default' Tasks program built-in to WM2003. But
neither in the settings for that nor in the settings for PB itself can
I see how to delete a category.
BTW, I couldn't find any Help file for PB either. Not included in the
list under Today > Help.

Switching on overnight, discharging battery
My iPAQ 2210 is for some reason switching itself on overnight. The
first time I discovered this I wrote it off as a minor issue. But it
happened again last night when I'd forgotten to replace it in its
cradle. This morning it wouldn't switch on until I reset it, and then
gave me the warning that battery was too low.
I'd appreciate some help in how to identify the reason for its
switching on please.

Alarm Notification
Hi,
Not for the first time, my pocket pc (Mio 550, WM5) is having a
problem with the alarm notification. The alarm works at the right time
but the "notification" soft key does not show and I cannot switch the
alarm off or snooze.
The LED starts flashing and never stops (until I hook it up to the
comouter for synchronisation).
Soft reset does not work.
When I do connect for synchronization, the "notification" soft key
does come up for a second. Pressing it does not seem to help.
This did not happen right after installing some new piece of software.
Other than a hard reset :( is there anything that someone can think of
to help?
My calendar reminders have also stopped working.
Thanks.

Any hope for an old Pocket PC?
Hi guys,
I have a Cassiopeia E-125 from when they first came out. I haven't
been able to do much with it because the connector on the cradle
broke. It was fairly old by the time this happened, so I didn't bother
to see about a new cradle. Before I go about looking for a new PDA, I
was wondering if it was possible to still get any life out of the old
one. Is there any other way to connect it to the PC? My only option is
to transfer data is to use the dial up modem to paste text to Gmail.
Thanks,

Getting to voicemail on Tilt
To me a touch-screen is about having the ability to get right to the
information that I see on the screen. That's the minimum a touch-screen
device has to offer. Of course, it is possible to get a lot more creative
with touch-screen interface as demonstrated by various iPhone apps.
I am not sure why I am not able to tap open the voice mail on my AT&T Tilt.
Every other item on the top row is interactive. Nothing happens when I tap
on the voice mail icon.

Plugin for Pocket Outlook ...
Hi,
I was trying to find a way to write a plugin for Pocket outlook. After going
through msdn and googling much, I am not clear that where to start from.
There is much-much less information available for Pocket Outlook Plugin as
opposed to Outlook plugin. The only thing I found on the web is "Emansio"
which calls itself a Pocket Outlook Plugin.
For now, I want to know, Where to start with in order to write a Pocket
Outlook Plugin? Any reference or techincal sample would be greate.
If any one knows, can you please help.

Microsoft blesses Adobe Flash Lite with inclusion into OEM product.
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080317-microsoft-eyes-iphone-with-adobe-flash-smartphone-deal.html
"Adobe today announced that Microsoft has licensed Flash Lite and Reader LE
for the Windows Mobile OS. Microsoft will make these products available to
all Windows Mobile OEMs around the world, firing a shot across the bow of
the S.S. iPhone. "
Now, does this confuse anyone when I mention Microsoft's own up and coming
rich media internet application, Silverlight? Especially when Nokia just
agreed to support Silverlight. Just how much of a perceived threat is the
iPhone, when they are joining ranks and throwing everything at it?
With that aside, this could bode well for Pocket PCs, erm, Window Mobile
devices. Not to mention having access to a lot of developer applications,
which up to now has held back since the pentration rate of flash lite on
winmo was less than ideal. But knowing that it would be in place and
supported - sweet.
But I would be wrong to not point out that it also moves PPCs closer to the
smartphone group.. a pretty sandbox for your penance... It all depends on
if the PPC specific aspects of the applications (touch screen, etc.)
continue to be supported. Tag: Win mobile 2003se .. messenger? Tag: 489548
Where is the End key in Windows Mobile?
I am so enraged at the number of bugs and un-features in Win Mobile
that I'm numbering 'em.
Complaint no. 3:
Where is the End key on the keyboard?
For example, how do you add words onto the end of a sentence residing
in a cell in Mobile Excel?
When you tap on a cell thereby bringing up its contents at top, the
cursor is at the BEGINNING of the cell's string.
How do you get to the end of the string?
(It took me several months to realize that I can sequentially tap Ctrl
then Right to jump forward word-by-word. But that's still tedious.
And as usual, Microflot makes it worse by, once you reach the end of
the visible portion of the string, not scrolling the off-the-screen
portion to which you are next scrolling into view until AFTER you've
scrolled. Preventing you from seeing what the hell you're scrolling
to.)
Anyone?
Thanks.

Where is the symbol for "1/2" on the keyboard?
I have so many complaints about Win Mobile that I've started numbering
them (even tho' I've submitted many complaints into this group
already).
Complaint no. 2:
On the WM keyboard, where are the common symbols, e.g. for "1/2" (one-
half)?
This complaint is ironic, because in point of fact Win Mobile's symbol
insertion is SUPERB and MUCH BETTER than desktop Windows.
On the desktop, if you're using Word, you have to launch Word's own
character dialog, select your character, then exit.
With something like Excel, it's absolutely pathetic. You must launch
the Start Menu. You must hunt under Accessories, or Ladies' Apparel,
or some damned thing, to launch Windows' main character map. You must
SELECT a character. You must COPY the character. You must EXIT the
dialog. You must RECLAIM focus over your app. You must INSERT the
character, etc.
But Win Mobile's keyboard has its superb accented-character shift that
immediately gives you all the diacritics.
Only thing is, I don't see such common symbols like "1/2" (0189 in
desktop Windows).
Anyone?

The D-word
Durability. Ah, the D-word. The word reviewers never get to.
In 9 years, I've owned 6 Pocket PCs: one Compaq Aero 1550, one HP568,
three HP1945's, and a Dell X51. I use them a lot, for all sorts of
things, in a tougher-than-average environment. I suspect I'm the guy
they worry about when they choose the warranty length.
The 1945's durability sucked. The first one's screen broke, in normal
use that the similarly sized 1550 had no problem with over the preceding
years. Based on my experience & the volume of complaints I saw online, I
still figure HTC, HP, or a vendor managed to overstrain the panels
during manufacture or assembly. It was still under warranty, though I
had to browbeat HP customer service.
The replacement 1945 fricasseed itself one day. It was out of warranty
by then. The third one lasted longer, and still works, but the digitizer
is now too spiky for note taking. It would make a nice MP3 player, if I
needed one.
The 568 fried itself, too, just outside of warranty. HP tried to repair
it, but no dice. The repair lasted a month or so. Forget about repairing
PDA's unless you can do it yourself with duct tape.
The Aero 1550 was the jewel. It did its job perfectly, with no extra
features or bugs. If technology hadn't advanced so quickly, I'd still be
using it. It lasted me through 3 years of hard service. After I upgraded
to the 568, I gave the Aero to my nephew who fiddled with it for years
afterward.
My current X51 is going strong except for the ever-present HTC digitizer
spiking that slows note taking. When it wears out, I'd buy another, but
they don't make them anymore. Today, I'd have to pick between an Asus
A626 and an HP210. Or maybe get a Nokia 810 and give up on Pocket PC.
How bad can web-based functionality be?
I'm tempted to just buy the dumbest possible phone with an organizer on
it that can sync to a PC, an MP3 player, and a Sony Reader. I just have
to find a phone with an organizer, but no camera.
Lessons Learned About Durability
1) Screen protectors are good things. While a perfect individual can
keep a screen and stylus perfectly clean & never scratch a screen, I can't.
2) HTC digitizers suck after a while. They begin to spike. Lekrn to edit
carefully befere publishing.
3) Rhinoskin aluminum cases are good things, especially if you work in a
factory. Or if you drop things occasionally. Watch out for loose hinge
pins, though. Don't sit down with one in your pocket.
4) Cheesy plastic d-pads wear out. Not the contacts, the touch points.
The resulting notchy d-pads hurt your fingers.
5) Scroll-wheels wear out as well, although they're nice to have while
they last. In their case, it's the contacts, not the wheel.
6a) Did I mention HTC oigitizers suck? Well, OK.
6b) The HP1945's, even in a Rhinoskin case, were just a little too small
and fragile to be practical. That's why I have no interest in the HP110.
Clever little things, though.
7) If your PDA starts to feel hot, back it up immediately to a flash
card, and don't put it back in your pocket.

pda appointment yields meeting request with wrong date
Hi,
I create an apointment with attendees on a pda. Then during activesync, the
meeting requests that are sent have a wrong date : instead of having the
appointment's date, they have today's date with the hour being rounded to the
closest half hour. However, in the calendar, the appointment has the correct
time and date. I've seen afew testimonies of people witnessing the same
behavior, but nothing close to a hint about where to find the beginning of a
solution.
I will add that this problem seems to happen randomly, i.e. it does happen
"sometimes" with the same pda and computer, while with other devices it will
always happen and with some other it will never happen... By other, I mean
same brand, model, same windows mobile edition, same outlook edition, and
really similar configuration on laptop.

2577 autorun doesn't work
Hi all,
I've seen this problem alluded to elsewhere but I'm still confused.
I'm trying to install tomtom on an IPAQ3850.
Pocket PC 3
ARM SA1110 processor.
I have an SD card with the tomtom software, with 2577 folder which
holds autorun.exe, autorun.exe-run, ttn2003.cab and ttn.cab files.
When I insert the SD card I believe it should execute the autorun file
but nothing happens.
I have tried executing the ttn2003 cab file, which extracts, seems to
install but fails when I try to run via the tomtom icon.
Can someone explain the 2577 folder in simple terms?
ISTR the autorun file is taken out of the 2577 folder and copied into
the windows folder?
I believe autorun can be disabled in the registry. How do I turn it
on? I know my way round a real PC's registry but I didn't even know
PDAs had registries :-(
Should I be able to execute the autorun.exe in the 2577 folder and it
will install in the same way a CD works on a grown-up PC?

Manufacturer Description
Professional photographers know what they want in a camera. Above all,
the camera must be dependable -- able to come through in shooting
situations that are far less than ideal... even in harsh environmental
and handling conditions. The camera must be responsive -- reacting
instantly to the photographer's input... able to capture, within a
heartbeat, the image in the mind's eye. It must provide a
sophisticated feature set that makes it versatile and adaptable and,
yet, does not compromise operability. And, of course, it must deliver
image quality beyond reproach -- which, in the digital era, means not
only virtually noise-free detail, richness of color, and depth of
tone, but also sufficient data density to satisfy the widest range of
output applications. Today, there is one digital single-lens-reflex
(DSLR) camera that meets these criteria as no other: the Canon EOS-1D
Mark III. Redesigned and re-engineered from the ground up, Canon's
newest flagship EOS is destined to become the next "must have" DSLR
for professionals.
EOS 1D Mark III Highlights
New 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor Excellence in digital photography
starts at the imaging sensor. Canon's uniquely advanced in-house
sensor design and manufacturing capabilities are a major reason why
EOS Digital SLR cameras consistently deliver state-of-the-art imaging
performance.
The EOS-1D Mark III features a newly developed 10.1 megapixel Canon
CMOS sensor. It fulfills the primary functions of an imaging sensor --
sensitive, accurate, extremely low noise capture of image data -- with
unprecedented competence. Its APS-H size sensor results in a 1.3 lens
conversion factor, a format that EOS-1D series photographers are
familiar with. Moreover, it incorporates Canon's latest CMOS
engineering advances that significantly reduce digital noise --
especially in shadow areas -- and expand the useful ISO range.
Exceptionally wide ISO range Combining the superb image capture
capabilities of the new sensor with advanced Dual DIGIC III Image
Processors, the EOS-1D Mark III offers the widest ISO range of any
digital SLR in the world (as of February 2007). The standard range of
100 - 3200 can be extended to a remarkable 50 - 6400.* More
importantly, the low-noise performance at high ISO settings makes the
entire range usable in real-world shooting situations. * Standard
output sensitivity. Recommended exposure index.
14-bit A/D converters Whereas earlier EOS digital cameras used 12-bit
A/D (Analog-to-Digital) converters, the EOS-1D Mark III employs new 14-
bit converters to process the output of the imaging sensor. This
ensures smoother tonal transitions and more natural gradations. RAW
images are recorded at 14 bits so that the full range of tones
captured by the sensor are available in 16-bit TIFF images. Tag: Win mobile 2003se .. messenger? Tag: 489493

Problem on iPaq 5450
Hi folks,
I got this used iPaq 5450 for relatively cheap (about US$ 200). It
came with PocketPC 2002, the default OS for this model. Now, I know
the 5450 is infamous for its buggyness, but I thought I could
alleviate the problem with the updates available from HP, so I decided
to shell out those ~ $200 and go for it - mostly because of wi-fi,
that my old iPaq 3850 (still alive and kicking with Windows Mobile
2003 that I upgraded it with) lacks. I was also hoping to be able to
upgrade it to WM2003, since I play around with .NET CF 2.0 sometimes
(that doesn't work on PPC2002), and also because of a few apps I use
that doesn't work on PPC2002, and was able to acquire that ROM
upgrade.
Ok, enough background, here's my problem - I can't update the ROM on
this 5450. I've tried the ROM update to version 1.11 (for PPC2002,
available here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=0&prodSeriesId=322914&prodNameId=100786&swEnvOID=231&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ip-47460-1).
Apparently the update application can't put the device into "flash
mode". As I've gathered after much digging around in the 'net, when
the message "Verifying the information on your iPAQ PocketPC" is shown
on the desktop by the update program, the device is supposed to reset
to flash mode: a screen with only a single HP logo on it - or so I
heard it's supposed to look like. I can get the equivalent of this
screen on my older 3850, except it is the Compaq logo with a red
background; I don't know how the HP screen for flash mode looks like,
but I'm sure from that earlier experience that it should look
different from the normal boot screen; and that's the problem: when
the device should be going to flash mode, instead it just reboots
normally - that is, it shows the normal boot screen and goes to the
today screen (also usually the clock is reset to 12:00 and the date to
01/01/1980), while in the desktop the "Verifying information..."
message stays up indefinitely. This happens the same when I try the
ROM upgrade to WM2003.
What I've already tried, based on what I gathered on the net:
- Putting the device into flash mode manually, by means of the magic
"keys", that is, press the CONTACTS + ITASK + POWER buttons
simultaneously and press reset. Also doesn't work, the device just
reboots as well. By the way, these same keystrokes work fine (that is,
the device is put on flash mode) on my older 3850, and yes, they are
supposed to work on the 5450 as well, from what I gathered on the
'net;
- Copying the file FUU.exe and FUU.bin to the device, and running
the .exe manually: Doesn't work, it just reboots the device as well
(when, I guess, that little executable would probably put the device
into flash mode);
- Uninstalling ActiveSync completely and reinstalling: tried initally
the lastest version (4.5), then uninstalled (including removing the
dangling ActiveSync install folder thereafter), and tried the older
3.7 version that some people seemed to suggest for compatibility with
older devices, but no difference;
- Hard-resetting: tried that many times, no difference. By the way,
everytime I hard reset this unit, right after the screen blanks out
after the procedure is done (CALENDAR + ITASK + RESET for 3 secs), I
have to remove the battery and put it back on. If I just reset the
device without doing that, the device hangs on the boot screen
indefinetely. I don't know this device enough, so I don't know if
that's how it's supposed to behave, just thought I should mention
that.
Well, anyway, I'm already dismissing this as a lost cause, probably
some fault in the ROM or bootloader of this unit (though the device
seems to work fine otherwise, it can sync with ActiveSync, etc.). But
if anyone have any thoughts or experience with this, even for
confirming my suspicions, your sharing would be greatly appreciated.
Too bad I've already thrown away $200 at this, I wish I hadn't already
found a buyer for my older 3850, otherwise I would just sell this 5450
and keep the older... Now I'll have to cope with this subpar unit, or
maybe try to sell it and stay empty handed until I can get something
worthawhile... And never touch a 54xx again thereafter...

shortcuts to enter date and time?
I am new to Windows Mobile, used Palm OS for a long time. I liked how I was
able to enter the date and time on the Palm using a shortcut gesture and
then "dts" (date/time stamp).
Is there any way to do this on a Windows Mobile device? I see that I can
tap and hold and insert the date, but not the date and time.
Is there a utility that allows quick entry of date and time in a
user-selected format?
It would also be nice to have a utility to define other shortcuts that I
could use to enter text from on-screen keyboard or built-in hardware QWERTY
keyboard. Tag: Win mobile 2003se .. messenger? Tag: 489477

Pocket PC 2003 / MSN Security Update
Hi, I recently got my Pocket PC (iPAQ rx3115) fired up again,
obviously after months of no charge, it's back to factory defaults so
i've been putting stuff on it again.
There's one thing I cannot find though, it's the MSN Security Update,
I can't find it anywhere on the Internet, MSN's pages just redirect to
the "new" Windows Mobile pages, where I can't find anything even
remotely related to PPC2003.
I saw the PPC2002 update while searching, but the PPC2003 one is gone,
and I can't sign into MSN :(
Does anyone have a copy of the installer or a URL to somewhere that
still has it? I'd much appreciate it.

UK Three Mobile Broadband Sim and Enfora GSM0110-01
Hi
I have been trying in vain to configure my Dell Axim X5 (WM2003) with the
Enfora GSM0110 Compact Flash GSM modem with my sim from Three UK which came
supplied with the Three USB Broadband Modem.
I can find no reason why this SIM shouldn't be usable with the Enfora but the
default WM2003 dial-up wizard only allows input of the dial-up number (*99#)
and the user name and password (which I believe should be blank or guest and
guest - neither works). In the advance settings I am inputting the extra dial-
string modem commands as follows
+cgdcont=1,"IP","three.co.uk" and the rest of the settings as advised by
Enfora's guide.
I am unable to connect with those settings. I note from Three that CHAP
authentication is needed for connecting and the WM2003 wizard shows no security
settings options.
Is there any third party dialer software that will allow configuration of CHAP
security on a connection to this modem? Or is there a way of making the
existing wizard configure the security settings? Or is it possible the SIM
cannot be used outside the USB modem? It does work in a Three contract phone.
I am fairly convinced it is simply an authentication issue.
Thanks in advance for any help
Jim

Dictation Software
We've struggled finding good dictation software. Most that claim to be are
simply just voice recorders, and do not allow to overwrite and etc...like
true dictation equipment.
I've tried Pocket Dictate, which they screwed up in their new version, and
Opus. Anyone know of any other programs that are good?
Thanks,

Release DLL Problem
Hi there
I have a DLL written in C++ which I call in my Embedded Visual Basic
Application. The problem is when I call a particular function from the
DLL which requires an LPTSTR argument. I send the argument as a String
from VB.
It works FINE if I run the Debug-version of the DLL, but when I run
the Release-version of the DLL it sends an empty string to the
function..
Any Ideas for this anomaly..
Cheers

Handy Weather for Smartphone
I installed Handyweather 3.0 on my Motorola Q9h Global. Anyone have
this and notice the wind direction on the details screen is the exact
opposite wind direction of Intellicast (where this app gets it's
info), and any other weather site? I did notify their customer
support, but haven't heard back from them yet. Tag: Win mobile 2003se .. messenger? Tag: 489421
ARM DSP Instructions in Windows Mobile 5.0
Hi,
I am working on Windows Mobile Pocket PC 5.0 Emulator.I am working
on Visual Studio 2005 .
We are converting inline assembly to separate assembly functions and
meanwhile we encountered an exception at SMULWB instruction.
I got information from internet that WindowsCE doesnt support ARMv5
instructions only ARMv4.Is this true ?
I found that there are ARM DSP-enhanced Intrinsic Functions like
_SmulAddWLo_SW_SL are available.
1) But when i use the function in .c files, its building fine but
while running in emulator throwing the following error
Undefined Instruction: Thread=97529938 Proc=814c6e30 'mp3_encoder.exe'
AKY=00002001 PC=00056800(mp3_encoder.exe+0x00046800)
RA=00056860(mp3_encoder.exe+0x00046860) BVA=1c17f6fc FSR=00000405
Unhandled exception at 0x00056800 in mp3_encoder.exe: 0xC000001D:
Illegal Instruction.
The program '[57b4bc2a] mp3_encoder.exe' has exited with code 1067
(0x42b).
2) But when i use the function in .asm or .s files, its throwing
linker error like " Unresolved external Symbol"
what might be the problem ?
3) But when CLZ (which is a ARMv5 instruction) is replaced with
_CountLeadingZeros intrinsic in assembly file(.s and .asm ),its
building and running fine.
i havenot seen anywhere any discussion regarding the topic in the
internet. Hope experts can help me ?
If nobody has faced the situation, hope Microsoft guys will look into
this topic as the subject hasnot been addressed till now.

How to disable Clock & Alarm from appearing...
Using Windows Mobile 5.0 on a Treo 750.
Whenever the user turns on the phone and then makes a call, the Clocks

disconnects the phone call. Is there a way to prevent this window

My PDA-N is not connecting to my PC
Hi,
I'm a med student and you could say that my whole life depends on my
PDA.
I have an i-mate PDA-N but I cannot synchronize it to my computer.
I got it used (without the original software), however I tried it on 3
different PCs: 2 running Windows XP and ActiveSync 4.5 and one running
windows Vista with its built-in sync. I could connect via bluetooth to
the one running Vista but the USB connection is not working on
anything. I need to install a program i got but it needs activesync.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

imate jasjam screen goes white without reason
hi,
i am using the imate jasjam, wm5. at anytime, without warning, during
use or when on standby, the screen suddenly becomes white (almost
fades away to white) and doesnt allow any function. even after putting
the phone (physically) on standby and then bringing it alive again
does not work. it just comes on automatically whenever it wants to or
when i perform a soft reset. thus obviously making the ppc unusable/
unreliable.
please help. tried hard reset but no change.

Recently my Asus Mypal A730 seized op a few times in a strange way.
Gradually the screen went vague, changed color, first whitish and the red.
No features were vissible anymore. After a reset I could just continue using
it again. Any idea what's going on? Could this be a hardware problem?

USB not seen HP 212
I find the new HP 212 much better than my Axim 51v, but
like the Axim, when I plug the 212 in with a USB cable, my computer does not
see it. I need to softreset the pda at least once, and then usually do an
ipconfig /reset on the laptop to get them to talk. The Axim was bad for
this, the HP does it all the time.
My wireless connection to exchange is perfect
Does anyone have any ideas.

Hello, I used to post here when I had a HTC 8525 running PPC, but I
now have a Blackjack II running WM6, and was curious if anyone had any
good ideas on forums that are specific to WM, and especially WM6. Any

Also, if anyone knows where I can find an app that will add the "mark

awesome! Thanks!
