The "Mogul" even with the latest software update has other problems or
quirks you have probably noticed.
1. If you go into the Settings for the Backlight and say "Turn off
backlight if device is not used for" it will never shut the backlight
completly off. All it will do is turn the backlight down to it's lowest
level. In other words if you are use the Mogul in the dark of night and put
the backlight on it's lowest level to start with the Mogul will not change
anything after the set timeout.
2. If you are using the Mogul with the Backlight set to it's lowest level
then the keyboard light will not go on. The way to get the keyboard light
to work is to turn the backlight up one notch but then the backlight for the
screen is too bright to use at night.
3. Even though the "Sleep Mode" with the GPS is frustrating, the "Sleep
Mode" with WMP is downright stupid. Let me give you an example. If you are
playing a video with the sound directed to a Stereo Bluetooth headset you
can tap the power button to save power and you will *still* hear the audio
from the video. But if you are just listening to music files via BT Stereo
when you tap the power button it will pause WMP. The reason that is
"downright stupid" is because not all HTC devices do that. I've seen an HTC
"Touch" for a carrier besides Sprint where you can use the power button to
put it into power saving mode and it will keep playing music files via
Stereo BT.
4. As for the "Internet Sharing" on the Mogul via Bluetooth PAN. That
causes me problems all the time. If I use "Internet Sharing" via "Bluetooth
PAN" to get to internet to a laptop or an iPAQ to run the "Slingplayer"
software I can use it about 10 minutes then I have to reconnect. I've tried
two different BT DUN programs to get the intenet from the Mogul to another
device and when one quits it takes a power cycle of the Mogul to get it
working again. When the other BT DUN I've messed with stops working I have
to hit the reset button on the Mogul to get it working again. But oddly
enough I prefer the BT DUN where I have to hit the reset button the most
because when it works it works the longest.
-----------------
I'll tell you what I've been doing to get around the "sleep mode" or "Power
Saving" issues that the Mogul has. I change one setting in WMP so I can
shut the screen off (Toggle Screen) with "Hold Down" and then use that
instead of "sleep mode."
If I use WMP to turn the screen off I can use either "Hold Down" or the tap
the power button to turn the screen back on. Sometimes I will go into
"Settings->Buttons" and change a button to take me directly to WMP. The
advantage to using a button to launch WMP is when I exit WMP it will take me
right back to where I was before blanking the screen.
Yes I know it is a lot of trouble to get around the issues the Mogul has
with "sleep mode" or "Power saving" mode but my battery can last all day if
I don't use the backlight very much.
