    - Release DLL Problem Hi there I have a DLL written in C++ which I call in my Embedded Visual Basic Application. The problem is when I call a particular function from the DLL which requires an LPTSTR argument. I send the argument as a String from VB. It works FINE if I run the Debug-version of the DLL, but when I run the Release-version of the DLL it sends an empty string to the function.. Any Ideas for this anomaly..     - ARM DSP Instructions in Windows Mobile 5.0 Hi, I am working on Windows Mobile Pocket PC 5.0 Emulator.I am working on Visual Studio 2005 . We are converting inline assembly to separate assembly functions and meanwhile we encountered an exception at SMULWB instruction. I got information from internet that WindowsCE doesnt support ARMv5 instructions only ARMv4.Is this true ? Whenever the user turns on the phone and then makes a call, the Clocks & Alarms window appears verifying the date and timezone.     - My PDA-N is not connecting to my PC Hi, I'm a med student and you could say that my whole life depends on my PDA. I have an i-mate PDA-N but I cannot synchronize it to my computer. I got it used (without the original software), however I tried it on 3 different PCs: 2 running Windows XP and ActiveSync 4.5 and one running windows Vista with its built-in sync. I could connect via bluetooth to the one running Vista but the USB connection is not working on anything. I need to install a program i got but it needs activesync.     - strange behaviour Recently my Asus Mypal A730 seized op a few times in a strange way. Gradually the screen went vague, changed color, first whitish and the red.     - USB not seen HP 212 I find the new HP 212 much better than my Axim 51v, but like the Axim, when I plug the 212 in with a USB cable, my computer does not see it. I need to softreset the pda at least once, and then usually do an ipconfig /reset on the laptop to get them to talk. The Axim was bad for this, the HP does it all the time.     - Signatures Prior to a recent hard reset with my new VZW XV6800 (WM6 w/ Office Mobile 6 or so) I had a signature added automatically to my outgoing e-mails. Now I can't figure out how to get this function back. Does anybody know how to do this? And when I send e-mail (I assume the device is actually sing OL Mobile) is it going out as text, html or what?     - airomap, 802.11 sniffer and GPS logger I downloaded Airomap for windows mobile 5 from here and it runs OK for finding 802.11 networks on my Toshiba e800 BT, (pocketpc 2003SE) except that the GPS doesn't work at all.. I wrote to the author who wrote back saying it doesn't work for for 2003se as it was designed for moble 5 .. a shame, and kind of dissapointing seeing as it *almost* works on 2003SE - it's supposed to autoconfigure the COM port and I suspect that's where it is failing on my OS the program's here and I recommend it for anyone using mobile 5: http://www.divideconcept.net/index.php?page=airosuite/index.php and if anyone knows a workaround to get this functional on 2003 SE I'd love to hear about it! karl Tag: another mysterious message Tag: 489356

    - My Microsoft Works adventure (Originally posted at www.calendarswamp.com) I've never set up Microsoft Works to work with my Pocket PC. So I installed ActiveSync 4.5 on one of my XP machines. ActiveSync tells me: "To synchronize E-mail, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes with this computer, do the following: Disconnect the device, run Outlook..." Fortunately I realized I didn't need to run Outlook, just Works. Ah, but wait a minute. Works Help says: "Start the Works Task Launcher." It took a Google search before I realized I had to start the Task Launcher from the Start menu, not from within Works Calendar. Classic! Then I click "Templates." My goodness what a lot of templates there! Lessee, where's the one I'm looking for...oh yeah, "Synchronization." Windows CE device synchronization. I start that... "Works will now run the ActiveSync setup program to install the Works Synchronization files onto your Windows CE device. After the ActiveSync application downloading is complete, please turn off your Windows CE device and then turn it back on to complete the installation." Followed by: "Please check your mobile device screen to see if additional steps are necessary to complete this installation." And indeed, there were some clicks to finish installation on the Pocket PC. Of course, this fairly-ancient Pocket PC then tells me: "The program you have installed may not display properly because it was designed for a previous version of Windows Mobile software [italics mine]." I have to fight my way through a few more references to Outlook to get to: "Welcome to the Pocket PC Sync Setup Wizard" ActiveSync wants me to name the computer I'm syncing to. This part is familiar to me from previous ActiveSync adventures. But wait, why is Calendar grayed out, but something called Appointments isn't??? Could it be that Calendar is an Outlook concept, but Appointments is a Works concept? When I try to sync, nothing comes over in either direction. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to set up a Mail profile in the Windows control panel? I try that. I sync again. This time there's an error in ActiveSync: "ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop. Support code: 85010014." Anyone know what I should try next? How could I possibly have software that's too old? Is it the age of the Pocket PC?     - Scaling Dynamic Controls for 640x480 devices Hi All, I am having an issue on when or when not to scale a control that is dynamically added to a hosting User Control when executing on a device with 640x480 screen. Here is what I got... In designer, if a developer defines a property, my code will dynamically add a control to the main hosting control (everything works great; even scaling). I think this works because the control was added during the initialization process which the OS tells it to scale (at this time its a part of the controls collection of the host). Now, the problem is if the developer does not use designer, but uses the LoadForm event to define the property, my control is dynamically added but its not scaled correctly for the 640x480 device. I think this happens because it was added after the hosting control's initialization. Any ideas on how to handle this? I am using Visual Studio 2005 Framework 2.X and such. Thanks in Advance!     - Don't want all e-mail to go to my phone... So I just got my first PDA phone (with WinMobile 6) and was excited to be able to recieve e-mail while away from my computer. However, my work has several mailing lists that are heavily used but which I don't need to read while away from my computer. On my desktop computer, I just have outlook rules to move these message to another folder so I can ignore them until the end of the day. But on my phone I'm forced to sift though everything... I need a way to make my phone NOT download some message, while downloading others from the same mail account. Or if that's not possible, to at least delete them immediately from the phone (this is by far a less ideal solution, but it would be better than nothing). Is there any way to do this? It's driving me crazy having my phone constantly get e-mails that I don't want to read. I'm using POP for both my phone and desktop as I want to keep my phone inbox clean of everything but messages I'll need on the go, while I want to keep all mail on my desktop (i.e. I don't want e-mail deleted on my phone to also be deleted on my desktop).     - Palm Treo 500V Hello All, I have a palm Treo 500V running windows mobile 6 standard which I believe is smartphone edition as the device doesn't have a touchscreen. I am trying to find a way to rename the device like I can with my pocket pc so it has a more descriptive name in activesync but unlike windows mobile 5 where I changed in the about box in settings, the treo doesn't have the option.     - Access Denied using Internet Explorer My Dell Axim X30 just started giving me an error message when I try to surf the internet using Internet Explorer. I get connected to a WiFi just fine, it get's an IP address and everything as far as the connection goes, looks good. This service has US and UK numbers. They have software for WinMo phones that automates the dialing process (the phone detects international numbers, intercepts the dialing sequence and dials your access number first) but any phone can use the account by dialing the access number manually and then the international number. (Any frankly, the software is as buggy as all get out!) Obviously you can program the whole sequence into your phone's memory dialing. Bruce says they need a couple hundred more testers so grab an account if you can use it. Voicestick's a neat little outfit trying to find a niche in the crowded VoIP world.     - Replacing LCD on Navman Pin 570 Cracked mine - not happy. Managed to order a new one but it wasnt that cheap (=A325). Cheaper than sending it back to Navman though. Just wondered - how easy (or hard) is it going to be to fit? I think I've bought a complete screen (LCD and touch sensitive top screen).     - Bluetooth: automatic startup? Although I've had my iPAQ 2210 PPC for years, I've only recently started to make use of its Bluetooth capability. I run Memory-Map on my PPC together with a GPS receiver (QStarz), and then later download the track to my PC to edit, view and print my walks. That took some fiddling to set up. But now Bluetooth starts automatically as soon as I run Memory-Map on the PPC, and, although still not as easy-to-use as a dedicated GPS unit, it's acceptable. However, back home and with no GPS unit running, it irritates me that when I open Mem-Map on the PPC it still starts Bluetooth and prompts me for settings etc. By the time I've canceled all that, Mem-Map has minimised and I have to re-activate it again, so it's tedious. Is there some obvious method I've missed to optionally stop this please? Maybe I have the sequence of operations wrong or something? Numbers I have in OL 2003 for "Business Phone" (I use this for p[eople's direct lines) show up on my OL Mobile as "Work Tel" but "Company Phone" (which I use for general corporate numbers) doesn't show up at all. This is pretty annoying, particularly for Contacts for whom I do not have a direct (i.e., "Business") number. For them I have zilch in the way of a phone number. What's the problem? Did I do something wrong? I am also puzzled about the way some appointments show up. For example, a one-hour phone conference from 2:30-3:30 p.m. In OL 2003) shows up in my OL Mobile calendar as 2:30-multiday in the view for "Day" even though the specific details--when I open the appt--are exactly right! Of course, I know better, but why is OL Mobile showing this as multiday? Fortunately, two doctor's appts next week are not also "multiday" or I'd really start to worry. A warning message that the database wasn't closed properly last time. It's
caused by soft-resetting the PPC while QMail was still running. Exit the
program before resetting and you won't see the error again

Well, I'm not resetting for fun! I have to do so regularly with Qmail
hanging up in the first place. Any other way to exit a hanging app?

Nope- I wouldn't worry about the error message. Just tap "yes" and get
back to it!
