I found that leaving that battery out for 48 hours always reset the
iPAQ back to a 'no-rom' state and able to easily connect via mtty and
the HP ROM patch .exe
So after several more failed attempts (always between 40-70%), I tried
it on a different computer. The update worked, and now I'm running
fine on 1.1
