Hope someone here can answer this. I have the AT&T Tilt phone and, so
far, am happy with it. I have been told by 2 different sales people at
the AT&T wireless store there is a device I can plug into the Tilt to
listen to music. BUT, not the typical earbud device. My wife likes the
earbuds. I like the old-timey headphones. The device I am trying to
find is an adapter(?) that plugs into my phone but has a jack that
allows me to plug in headphones or earbuds to the other end. Hope I'm
describing this right. Nonetheless, AT&T people tell me I can get this
device online but I have been unable to find it (maybe because I don't
know what to call it). Help please.

I'm using Motorola S805 stereo bluetooth headphones and they work
exceptionally well with the Tilt.
No need for wires/adapters and the Tilt supports the AD2P profile.
Not exactly what you were looking for but, working great as a solution for
me.

Been looking for something like this to connect helmet headphones since,
even if you mount a bt headset in a helmet, the controls are not accessible.

found this,<http://www.expansys-usa.com/d.aspx?i=125691> but it's
apparently been discontinued.

If anyone knows of something similar, please post

fwiw, a techie could take a set of bt headphones and mod them by adding
a 1/8" audio jack, but, would be a huge waste.

thanks for the reply. A similar reference from jeff about BT. I would
prefer saying wired I think, particularly since the ATT people say the
'adapter' I want is $5-$7. No BT invloved. The adapter plugs in to the
Tilt and the headset of my choice plugs in to the adapter.

You need one of these:
http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=3D158519

or one of these:
http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=3D158512

or one of these:

Note 1 - The Tilt is an AT&T variant of the TYTN-II.
Note 2 - I have a couple of the first items, and they are great for
connecting the PDA to traditional audio systems, but for headphones, I
prefer bluetooth. The PDA goes in my pocket, the phones on my head,
and no irritating wires to get in the way. My BT headphones are the
iTech BluePro (http://www.itechdynamic.com/en/products_spec.asp?
cid=3D3&pid=3D03020), now sadly discontinued.

<http://www.plantronics.com/africa/en_GB/products/cat1210094/cat5640053/prod5610022>

This might be an option...

It would be necessary to remove the buds beyond the volume control and
solder in a 1/8" inline female audio jack, but, it should then function
with any audio headset plus there is a microphone in the dongle to use
it as a phone headset.

Would work with a helmet as well as the pendant and mike could be
velcro'd where the controls could be usable.

Since it's bluetooth, it bypasses the need for the other adapters and
the cost is not that bad... $70 at Frys

forgot to mention, if you don't need the mic and phone button, you can
plug a 1/8" audio connector directly into the pendant.

eBay is the cheapest source. A quick search for "tilt audio adapter"
pulled up four dozen listings ranging from $5-15 including shipping.
(Several "two-packs" were $5 or so- that's how I buy them since my wife
tends to lose hers often!)

Note 3 - The socket on the Tilt is pretty clearly one of HTC's
"standard" 11 pin connectors. So adapters for many of HTC's other
products will also work.

Also, two other decent sources for such accessories:
PocketPCTechs:

BoxWave:

Not quite what you want, but I'm intrigued by the following:
http://www.itechdynamic.com/en/products_spec.asp?cid=2&pid=02030
It is a Bluetooth receiver that supports stereo headphones. So someone
can use any headphones with Bluetooth. That means a wider choice of
comfort and sound quality. I'm pretty sure the adapter includes a
microphone. I can't tell from the descriptions whether someone can use
another microphone (are the definitions of "headset" and "headphone"
sufficiently standard that I can trust "headset" to mean "includes
microphone", and "headphone" to mean "no microphone"?).

http://www.semsons.com has an adapter for the Tilt to standard stereo
headsets.

I have the 8525 that came before the Tilt. It was furnished with a combo
that allowed it to be used as a headset or listen in stereo.
