I recently got Qmail version for WM2003SE. Now when I start Qmail I get a
message 'new version available'. Is this a version for my OS or do they mean
new version for other PPC OS?
When I click yes, I get a website with Japanese junk characters but WM2003SE
is mentioned nowhere...

Probably just a bug in the software that doesn't know how to differentiate
between versions. Yes a new version for WinMo 5/6 was released (3.0.4,
IIRC) but I think the 2003 version is "End of Life"- the author doesn't seem
to be updating it right now.

Yup, just checked this myself - no pre-WM5 versions any more at
http://q3.snak.org/ja/download.html ...

Actually if you click the link at the bottom of the page, (this was a wild
guess on my part- I neither read nor speak Japanese) it takes you to a page
with prior versions:
http://q3.snak.org/ja/old.html

Well that's too bad for me then, I don't suppose the WM5 and 6 versions wil
not run on my Asus 730? I'm stuck with WM2003SE because all the time there
doesn't seem to be a WM update for this device.

By now it has generated all sorts of errors and I had to remove it. Even the
'uninstall' option of the app. did nothing. In spite of all that, I'm
considering news reader to be one of the more useful internet applications
for a PPC...

No, the WM5/6 versions use the newer "softkeys" interface instead of the
bottom row icons like in 2003.

What errors are you getting? QMail works very well on my Dell Axim X5
(PPC2003) once you work around it's quirks.

As far as "uninstalling" it, it doesn't really "install" in the first
place. It's a very "old-school" app- you drop all of it's files in any
folder you wish, and run it from there. To "uninstall" simply delete that
folder, the folder you told it to put the mail/news in, and that's it- QMail,
like Elvis, has left the building.

Agreed- I do most of my reading/posting from my WinMo device (like this
post right now...)

I remember errors about corrupted messages. Couldn't open them anymore. I
got a cryptic error window, wether I want to ignore or delete the message
etc.

Yes I gathered that from some other messages. But the point is that I tried
to use the apps. own option 'uninstall'. So whatt's this? Uninstalling or
not? :-)
I have deleted the whole dir in which I had used Qmail, but now I'm still
stuck with the dead icon, which I did a lot of hard work finding out how to
make in WM in the first place... Routines are all so very different from
W2K.

But I understood there are no real alternatives for news readers on
WM2003SE?

I've gotten that once in a blue moon, particularly if my device froze up and
needed a soft reset while QMail was still running. Generally I just delete
the account and recreate it. It happened just the other night to my WM6
version.

Beats me- I've never tried running it, since I've never had a desire to
uninstall it! ;-)

If the icon is directly in your start menu, go to Settings/Menus and uncheck
QMail, since you can't delete anything pinned to the Start Menu directly.
This moves the launch shortcut to the Programs folder.

In File Manager, go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs (or whatever subfolder
your shortcut is in), then tap-n-hold on the QMail shortcut and select
delete.

But of course! (Sorry about the American idiom- in his day, throngs of fans
would stay at the stadium or on the streets outside after Elvis concerts
hoping to catch a glimpse of him, so announcements of "Elvis has left the
building" would be broadcast over the public address system in hopes of
dispersing the fans. So, today, "Elvis has left the building" is a silly
expression sometimes used to mean something is no longer available.)

I believe Qusnetsoft News Reader available from www.qusnetsoft.ru works
with 2003.

It will. I use it with my hx2215 (WM2003SE) and my Wing (WM6).

I'll have a look into it. Do you think it is any good?

Well, I don't mind creating an account once or twice, it's all in the game.
But I wouldn't want to have to do this every week.

Thanks for this cultural lesson :-) Actually I'm not a pop expert, but I
think Elvis was funny guy..
