PB 5.0 install - error 1335 ! Anybody successfuul on this step ?

Hi,

we are trying to get a taste of new PB 5.0 Machallan and
install it as suggested by Microsoft. A small ( ~3 mb)
setup file is downloaded from MS PB site and then runs. It
then does something for a long time , probably downloading
some parts of PB 5.0 over internet, but then fails with
the following error :

Error 1335.
The downloaded cabinet file CE_7[1].CAB required for this
installation cannot be used. Click Rtetry to try Again or
Cancel to Cancel setup.

Retry does not help at all :( Cancel means it will start
over for 1.5 days of downloading something with the same
result.

Anybody have seen this error ? What would be the
suggestion - just gave up on this beta version of Macllan ?

I've seen this on my machine at home (XP Professional), but the file it
fails on is quite random and eventually I gave up (will try this weekend).
At work it installed without problem, built a demo platform, and that was it
didn't really have time to explore further.

Hi Tweeek,

thanks for the tip. I have tried several times but still
failures persist. Unfortunately can't go and try on
another computer or another newtwork since PB 5.0 has
certain pre-requistes which can't be met on another
machine!

What is annoying is that each time I have to re-type that
long license number when setup starts over and re-choose
selected features and not to screw up them from previous
attempt!

Maybe there is a PB 5.0 install .iso file one could
download instead of that troublesome internet installer ?
Even if that .ios file would be gigabytes, it could be
then downloawded on independent machine like Macintosh of
Lindows box. Anyone from MS, is there such possibility ?

There is another problem with this internet install of PB
5.0 .

Even though it did check disk space on the destination
drive, and there is plenty of space there, it failed to
check something else ?

It turns out that internet install of PB 5.0 creates large
temporary file on %system% disk drive and does not check
free space properly, at least it appeared so on my
machine.

I have 7.5 Gb free disk space on %system% drive. PB 5.0
installer wants 45 Mbytes free disk space and fails to
proceed, showing pop up dialog box that disk C: (which is %
system% in my case) has not enough free space, lacking 38
Mbytes. Weird ...

Anyone else seen that ?

As of now will give up on PB 5.0 untill at least an
installer will be made more stable.

Go to Internet Explorer, select Tools/Internet Options from the menu. In
the General Tab under Temporary Internet Files, select Delete Files, then in
Settings, make sure that the size is large (>600 Meg, I set mine even
larger)

Thanks Bruce,

it did help to start over.

However, then the installer crashed with the following
error messages :

regsvr32.exe -
The instruction at 0x45002eba referenced memory at
0x45002eba. The memory could not be read. Click OK to
terminate program.

and also

Assertion Failed : COM Error occurred.
Program : D:\Program Files\Windows CE Platform Builder\5.00
\cepb\bin\cepb.exe
File: e:\pbmac\ide\pkgs\bld\src\ui\vproj.cpp

and a lot more text under it.

No luck uhmm..

That looks like a new issue. Please post it to
microsoft.public.windowsce.techpreview where MS may notice it as an issue
with the Tech Preview of PB 5.0.
