    - PB5.0 SDK build issue - Not Fixed I have read the correspondance from last November about the PB5.0 SDK Build issue and I thought the work around would fix my problem but it does not. I have checked in platform.ini after I have sysgened my platform and I get the sysgen=0 problem in the file. when I change this to sysgen=1 and run makesdk from the command prompt nothing happens. It just returns directly to the prompt. It doesn't seem to run the SDK build at all. If I change the current directory away from the release directory then I get 'CopyFile failed to copy database file to "\", Err = 3 ==> The system cannot find the path specified.' in the SDK dialog. I have tried installing PB5.0 on a colleague's machine and everything works fine. No problem creating the SDK at all. I've removed and re-installed PB on my machine but still no luck. Both machines are running windows 2000 but my machine has been in use longer and has had other development systems installed and removed. I'm guessing that there must be a left over registry setting which is causing my machine to behave differently but what could it be? Before I discovered the posting on this subject I did notice that the SDK wizard behaved differently on the 2 machines. On the working machine the CPU tab in the SDK configuration dialog was filled in completely and correctly but on my machine only the CPU was present. I have a SPI driver and odviously it can only be loaded one at a time, if there is 2 instances of the driver running, then the SPI data will currupt. I then ran my app on the device. This app sends data to my client running on my dev PC. Since IPSec is not configured on my dev PC, i expected that there would be no TCP packets being sent or received - but i was wrong, everything was working fine and no encryption was taking place.     - RomImage Hello, I have a project that includes the Emulator x86 BSP. I've modified the platform.bib file to add some files to the image(i.e some .bmp files). I've modified platform.dat to direct where I want the files to go i.e (\My Documents). I've sucessfully built the image.When I run viewbin on the resulting NK.BIN file, the output shows that the added files are included in the ROM image.However, when I download and run the image in the Emulator window, the added .bmp files do not show up in the \MyDocuments directory.     - PXA255 Suspend/Resume Hi all! I have PXA255 Lubbock based (WinCE42) platform and I am working on suspend/resume logic. While suspend is working, resume is not. Problem is that I have ethernet chip (CS8900) which is connected directly to the PXA and the nReset_Out pin of the PXA is connected to the Reset pin of the ethernet controller. So when the PXA is off to sleep, my CS8900 is reset. After resume, the ethernet is not working anymore. I suspect that Ends4Isa driver is incapable to reinitialize itself. Am I correct?     - Anyone have RNDIS over USB working on a MainstoneII? I'm having problems getting RNDIS up and running on a MainstoneII board. As far as I can tell I have the rndis drivers setup properly on my host PC, since the host pc recognise the CE-device as a local area connection (and the device presents itself as I specified in the RNDIS registry settings). However, the device does not manage to obtain a IP adress through DHCP, printing the debug ouput "GetDhcpLease(RNDISFN1): failed badly!". Since I'm a total newbie on RNDIS I don't relly know what the problem might be. The BSP has been updated with the latest QFE, and I have kitl ethernet running for download, debugging and for the device's network access. Any suggestions on how to proceed?     - Specifying an emulator image for Platform Manager in an SDK Hi, I'm building an SDK for a custom platform OS design using Platform Builder 5 (Beta Build 5.00.1371). For the meanwhile I am building for an emulator BSP only. All works fine on my development workstation: I can build the image for the emulator, use it within PB and via an SDK I built use it within EVC4.0. However, I've been unable to distribute the SDK sucessfully to an EVC developers who does not have PB installed. When he tries to connect to the emulator using the Platform Manager he gets a "Unable to connect" generic error message. The emulator connection is using the "Emulator Startup Server". My first question is this: In the emulation configuration settings dialog for the startup server, what should the "Image" drop-down read? On my workstation, for my device, the "Connect to last emulator image launched by Platform Builder" box is checked and the image drop-down can only read "Default image". The emulator can be connected to using the remote tools only if the box is checked. On an EVC only workstation, the check box is greyed. I note for the smartphone 2003 SDK emulator device a number of images can be selected from the image drop-down. My other question is: how do you specify in PB the images that appear in the drop-down?     - Hanging operating system issue Hi all, I have developed graphical editor applications in Windows CE.net. I have used the target board as ARM processor. I have built the OS from platform builder 4.2 for both device and emulator version. I have configured the OS memory as 64 MB. While running the application on either device or emulator, the deivce or emulator will hangs after a certain period of time (sometimes hangs occur on 5mins or 10 mins, or 15 mins). we are not able to trace the exact postion where the hang occurs. We have performed source level debugging also. We have confirmed that all function calls are successful by providing the logging facility on the source code. At last we have debug the application through the platform builder. While running the application we got the CMemoryException message. But in the storage manager it says, it only uses 70% of the memory. Some peoples told that, this is because of low virtual memory on Windows CE.net. As per the MSDN documentation on Windows CE.net, the virtual memory for the each process is only 32 MB and the OS has 33 slots of 32MB virtual memory. Our doubt is whether we can use the other slot of virtual memory for our current process ? or This issue is only depend on memory ? or Is there any other way to handling this issue ? After struggling with how to make my features include themselves in the SDK, Bruce Eitman proposed to add a "makefile.inc" in my projects that copy the files i want included in the SDK to the SDK's target directory. This works just fine, but , as allways, I feel I want to dig deeper into how the whole concept is supposed to work. For example: A HW device manufacturer (of say a ISA IO-card) has developed a CE-driver. I'd imagine he'd like the headers and libs needed to program applications against his driver to be included in the SDK, if the customer included the feature in the platform. How does he solve that? Do you use makefiles and copy commands or are there any ohter alternatives? I've seen the use of "RELEASETYPE=SDK". What does this do compared to for example "RELEASETYPE=PLATFORM"?     - CE 5.0 and DRM10 I am trying to run the sample DRM10 application included in the DRM10 component. I had to modify the sources file to fixup the paths to the DRM inludes and libs. They are not stored in the location referenced in the sources file. Anyway, it builds fine. When I try to run it I get the following dialog Cannot find 'MAIN' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are coorect and that all the required libraries are available. I added the DRM10 components and the DRM OCX component.     - PCMCIA Driver Loading Problem Hi, I have a peculiar problem related to pcmcia. One of the symptoms is that when I insert the card (Actually it is not really inserted; I unmask the card-detect bit so the cardbus driver thinks it is inserted), the well-known "Unidentified PC Card Adapter" box pops up, but after a second it disappears, the card is powered, the driver loads and everything seems to work fine. This seems strange: either one of the drivers accepts the card or none of them does. Only in the second case the box should come, and it should not disappear - right? As it is, the driver IS installed, registry keys are present, the card is accepted and powered up but I still see the box. Further data: WinCE 4.2 PXA255 The card is a Cisco Aironet 350 Registry is persistent Card power and status lines are connected through I2C controlled IO-Expander, I have to control these lines, something might be wrong there (timing?). The code has worked well for a long time though, I have no idea what would suddenly have changed. I have a custom driver installed with number 01 in the card detect sequence, to just read the vendor and product strings and save them to registry. The entry function then returns 0 so the other drivers go on loading. It always worked fine, and removing the key from "Detect" does not change the behaviour. I have compared the registry to a device that didn't have the problem and I find nothing strange. It has happened on four or five out of about a hundred devices. It seems to persist after a complete shutdown (so I have been told, I haven't tried yet). I haven't tested much and am afraid to do a shutdown because if the problem disappears I will most likely be unable to repeat the problem. What I would like most is an explanation for the "Unidentified PC Card Adapter" box disappearing after one or two seconds. Anyone?     - IPSec vs L2TP/IPSec Hi, I have an x86 device called FB6500 (http://www.fabiatech.com/products/fb6500.htm). It uses Windows CE 5.0 which i built using PB 5.0. It's purpose is to run an app which uses TCP/IP. It basically sends TCP packets to a client every 10 seconds. I am considering of putting some sort of security or encryption for this TCP stuff but i am not sure what to use. Platform Builder has IPSecv4 as well as L2TP/IPSec. I have tried to read the documentation on both and realized that they are separate components - L2TP/IPSec does not depend on the IPSecv4 component.     - Problems with PXA270 migration from 4.20 to 5.0 Hey everyone. We've been running CE 4.20 on our Mainstone derived PXA270 based platform for a while now. We had a bit of trouble getting anyone to give us a starting point BSP (long story), but we ended up basing our BSP on Intel's Pocket PC 2003 BSP for Mainstone II. Aside from the usual "What were they thinking when they wrote this?" issues, things went pretty well. Just recently, I've started trying to move our platform to CE 5.0. I've read a lot of the discussions here about following the new PQOAL model versus moving an existing BSP from 4.20 over as-is, and I decided (perhaps foolishly) to follow the PQOAL. In fact, my plan has been to basically port the Mainstone II BSP from Platform Builder 5.0 to our platform by cloning it, and then merging our changes we made in our PB 4.20 BSP forward. Our 4.20 BSP and the 5.0 Mainstone BSP have a lot of common roots. Sounds sane, right? Um...all except for the part where I realize that Microsoft put very Mainstone hardware specific components into platform\common and public\common. This stuff might be production quality, but only if you intend to ship a Mainstone board as-is. My next plan was to identify each of this Mainstone tainted libraries, copy them into my own BSP, and make my own modifications there. I'm still going down this path, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to run into problems trying to avoid namespace collisions with header files. I mean, I'm still using XLLP stuff. Just, my own copy of it. So, has anyone else run into the same challenge? If so, have you come up with a better solution than my current course of action? For reference, here's a quick list of the libraries I've spotted so far that have lots of Mainstone specific pieces in them. This app consists of 8 exe's and 25 dll's; uses atl, stl, mfc, DCOM and various other technologies and performs considerable serial communications with external devices. I'm using a specialized board with precompiled ce 5.0 BSP (no sourses included, just precompiled OAL and device drivers DLLs, EXEs, LIBs, PDBs etc for Debug and Release configurations). Everything is o.k. I can build my custom images with different BSP and native windows ce features. I can use KITL, profiller etc. Can build my custom applications and debug them using KITL and kernel debugger. But I have some problems building the Platform SDK. Every time I use "Platform->SDK->Build SDK" command I get a warning saying that my platform is not sysgened (even I try after a full re-sysgen).     - Modem to use with CE 4.2 Hi NG, I'm making a research about modems that I can use with Windows CE .NET 4.2. I looked up google ng entries on this subject, but that effort was not much fruitful so far. I want to find a modem (USB or serial) for my embedded card (ICOP6042-VE) to be able to connect to the internet. What I learned from WCE documentation and the newsgroup entries is there's a general unimodem.dll which works with most of the modems. But I might have to make changes to get it work correctly. I couldn't find a modem which supports Windows CE .NET by default, or at least product vendors do not mention this on their web sites. I prefer to use a USB modem, but I can use a serial modem if it's necessary. I learned that Vibren Technologies has a usb modem driver which they claim that works with every usb modem. Has someone had any experiences with that driver? Is it a useful solution? Also from microsoft website windows ce hardware compatibility list I learned that U.S Robotics has 2 serial modems that work with Windows CE, but nothing is mentioned on US Robotics website. Maybe this is a solution for you:
Write a little PC program that inserts a fixed number of extra bytes at the
start of nk.bin.
You can use these bytes for doing your own version stamping.
Modify your bootloader so it is aware of these extra bytes.
