    - Verification of code in RAM I have written an application that verifies the validity of the CE image executing in RAM. It does this by stepping through the nk.bin stored in compact flash and saving the start address, length and checksum for each record that gets loaded into RAM. Periodically (every 30 seconds), the app checksums each record in RAM and compares the calculated checksum and stored checksum for the record. If the checksums don't agree, then a corruption has occurred and the app reboots the system. This app was originally written and tested with CE 4.2 and never indicated a checksum discrepancy. Recently I rebuilt the app for CE 5.0 and am now finding that it always finds a checksum difference in one and only one record - the third record. In addition, the calculated checksum is always 12 more than the stored checksum (eg. Calculated: 0x0143ee21 Checksum Record: 0x0143ee15). Given that this is extremely reproducible and began after going from CE 4.2 to CE 5.0, it seems that CE 5.0 may be modifying the RAM used by this record. Can anyone help me out here?     - Virtual Addressing & the SA1111 Using a PXA255 w/ SA1111 companion chip. Running Intels "diagnositic manager" After enabling the SDRAMs and before setting up virtual memory, I run a simple loop that writes & reads a single SDRAM location. This works correctly. On the scope I see write & reads to the SDRAM going quickly with no unexpected access to anything else going on. After setting up virtual memory and "going virtual" I have the same simple code except I write to the equivalent virtual memory location in SDRAM. I see the write & then read to the SDRAM just as before. However, after the SDRAM access comes 3 unexpected write/reads to the SA1111. Can anyone give me a clue as to what is going on here? At first I thought it was interrupts - however, the only interrupt enabled is 'match reg 1' which is used by the delay macro.     - LastWriteDate modified when using CE 4.2 File Server Hi, This is a second post. One of my CEPC applications uses two CEPC systems linked together via Ethernet. CEPC#1 is running the SMB file server and CEPC#2 accesses files on CEPC#1 through the file server. If files are copied from CEPC#2 to CEPC#1 via this link, the LastWriteDate for the copied files is changed to the date/time that the copy occured. If I use a WinXP system to link to CEPC#1 and copy files that way, the LastWriteDate remains the same as it was on the XP system, which is the behavior I would expect.     - Improvements for PB5.0 Dear MS I recently started with PB5.0 and I'm astonished that the most simple things are missing (Missing since the first PB version?): 1. I build a release version and get "0 errors(s), 0 warning(s)", but it didn't build the nk.bin because of errors. Why isn't it possible to display a error message on the last line of the output window? Yes I know, there is a message some lines above. 2. After build I press F4 for the first error and guess what? I get "error(s) in sysgen phase". That's not of much help. Yes, I know I have to open the error.log file, but why can't the IDE do that for me? 3. I open the build.log and see a message like this: "MoveFileEx failed. GetLastError: 112 (dec) 70(hex)." I know there is an API function to translate error numbers to error messages. Don't you know that too? Why isn't it possible to write the error message in a form that a human beeing can understand? Yes, I can find out everything on my own, but it would save me a lot of time, if the IDE would do that for me. However, I can not just modify the public code since I don't want to affect other projects like Emulator IP phone. I read the Cloning the Microsoft Public Common Code by Mike Hall and Steve Mailet.     - Remote tools Hi every1! Can abybody tell me why some remote wince tools are working nice, but others hang? For example Remote Registry Editor and Remote Heap Walker work without any problem. I can connect/disconnect a zillion times and browse registry and walk memory. Absolutely no problems. However Remote Process Viewer hangs once it was connected. And the most strange behaviour with Remote File Viewer. It starts ok, connects to device and shows up first filesystem level. I can open "Temp" folder, and "Program Files" folder. Everything is o.k. until I try to open "Windows" or "Release" folder. the gui stops working and responding to the user :( I still can't understand what happens here. No debug output. Kitl is still live after this since I can ping device, stop on breakpoints, open another remote tools .... but some tools hang and gui stops to respond to user... I've started a new PXA270 based platform (Wince 5.0). The only difference from my previous platform is some new hw connected and different NIC chip.     - Conditionals in SOURCES files Hi all, I have a bit of an odd question. I have a BSP that's ostensibly for CE 5.0. AFAICT it's based on an older 4.2 BSP. The problem is that in the PCMCIA driver SOURCES file, there's the following conditional : !IF "$(_WINCEOSVER)" >= "500" INCLUDES=..\..\inc;$(_PUBLICROOT)\COMMON\OAK\DRIVERS\PCCARD\PCMCIA INCLUDES=$(INCLUDES);$(_PUBLICROOT)\COMMON\OAK\DRIVERS\PCCARD\COMMON !ELSE INCLUDES=..\..\inc;$(_PUBLICROOT)\COMMON\OAK\DRIVERS\PCMCIA\MDD !ENDIF Now, this is needed to support the directory name change between 4.2 and 5.0. However there is a problem. Whilst this conditional worked for CE 4.2, CE 5.0 now ignores the conditionals (as described in the help page for both versions!) and ends up complaining about the wrong path. Now, I accept that this is documented as correct behaviour and its just fortunate that this (undocumented) trick worked with CE4.2 however, I can't see a way to support this at all with CE5.0. Has anyone got a suggestion? That is, now i'm used to download it through 5 floppy disks organized in this way: - the first (System setup) to make fdisk, format c:, mkdisk c: - the others to download the OS image I'd like to make all these things by a PC through a serial or ethernet or parallel connections. But i'll be happy if i can download the OS image through the PC and the first phase with the system setup floppy again. I don't how to do that.     - sa1111 / pxa255 & sdram Please advise if there is a more appropriate forum for this post. I have been using a lubbock based board with PXA255 & SA1111 companion chip which works fine. My new PDA version removed the SA1111. According to the intel developers manual, to run in companion chip interface mode you must : set the DMA GPIO's to there alternate function "MBGNT" & "MBREQ". When I removed the chip I changed these back to normal I/O's. set sa1111 compatibility bit to 1 in the MDCNFG reg. I set this back to 0. When I change these, the processor will no longer talk to the SDRAM correctly. Writing to 2 registers & then reading back finds the data corrupted. Has anyone else seen this problem. Sometimes documentation refers to a section in platform.reg, but when I search I can only found that section (and values) in common.reg. Should I copy these particular values to platform.reg and change them there or just change them in common.reg? When I copy a key and value from common.reg to project.reg and change it's value there, then reginit.ini in the releasedir will contain both the original value (from common.reg) and the changed value (from project.reg). The value from project.reg will be somewhere near the end of the reginit.ini file. Which values will be used? The first one or the second one?     - GPE Library Hi, A "gpe.lib" is used in TARGETLIBS of a display driver. It gets generated everytime i do a full build [am using Pocket PC Adaptation Kit], what i do not understand is that from where is it getting generated? Theres no sources file anywhere present which says TARGETTYPE=gpe. But there is another sources file which generates gpe_lib.lib. Is there any relation between gpe_lib.lib and gpe.lib ?     - Trouble with VIA Rhine driver and hive based registry under WinCE 5 Hi, We're having trouble getting the VIA Rhine ethernet adapter (FETCE5B.dll) working correctly under Windows CE 5.0 in conjunction with a hive based registry, however it works fine using a RAM based registry. When running as a Hive based registry the driver appears to load fine, however the lan icon in the systray has a red cross through it. If you double click on it is has no IP Address and it declares it's MAC address as being FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF. I've built many CE images for different platforms and have never had this sort of problem before. Initally we started with the CLE266 BSP, but after having these troubles I extracted the FETCE5B driver from the BSP, generated my own .cec file for it and then used the CEPC BSP with the FETCE5B driver added and get exactly the same result. Below are hyperlinks to 2 debug logs (captured serially), both of these are taken from the same project the first run as a Hive based registry then a switch to RAM registry with a clean build. The device has just one PCI function, with a base address register that maps a 32 byte IO region, which contains four sets of the standard 16550 UART registers. I would like to add support to both CE 4.2 and 5.0. I have been looking at CE 5.0, and would have no problem if each COM port had its own PCI function, because I could just add a registry entry for each function under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\PCI\Template\...], each matching one function, and each instructing it to load 'COM16550.dll', with 'DeviceArrayIndex'=0. However, I can't do this because there is only one PCI function. What's the best approach? Do I need to write my own driver, and if I do, can my COM_Init function register four COM ports?     - MmMapIoSpace(x,x,FALSE) gives me uncached?? I am using the MmMapIoSpace() system call to attempt to access a physical address. I am passing in False for the parameter "CacheType" as I most definitely do _not_ want this access to go through the processor's cache. However, looking at the bus cycle on the logic analyzer, I don't believe that I am getting an un-cached access. Within OEMAddressTable, this area is mapped to virtual address 0x80000000 which I understand is un-cached. So, my question is this, Is it possible to get an un-cached address from MmMapIoSpace() if the corresponding entry within OEMAddressTable is cached? -background With the Sharp ARM processors, the bus will not toggle the chip select on successive reads to the same memory region. This is a problem for some hardware. To get around this I have created a barrier function to read some other chip select region of memory in an effort to get my chip select to toggle.
