 - year 2000 bug I think i'm getting some kind of year 2000 bug that is causing a wrong date/time on my device. The year on my device says 1983, but i did some investigation and found that the OEMGetRealTime function that returns the system time is called when windows ce boots returns the year 3 instead of 2003, and because the year 3 is less than the default year (1983), platform builder sets the default year (1983) to the device. Is this a problem with my specific device? where exactly is the system time stored? And why would the system time return a 3 instead of 2003?  - Problem in iPaq 2210 with button "Power" after install my driver Hi everyone. I install my driver into the iPaq 2210, which replaces usb-driver. This driver forms data packets for sending to PC and transmits them to USB driver for further sending. After driver installation the device is not turned on by pressing "Power" button. I can turn it on with pressing RESET only. Other buttons keep working well. I did not see such kind of the problem on the previous versions of the devices. I know the problem is in driver.  - PCMCIA Driver Problems on a Mainstone II Eval Board. HELP! Hey guys. I'm pretty sure my problem here isn't exactly CE related, but I really don't have anywhere else to go for help right now. I'm hoping someone here has run into a similar problem and is able to shine some light on my situation. We're working on a Mainstone II eval board from Intel. Our current OS configuration is a very stripped down CE 4.20 platform with minimal GWES, NDIS, PCMCIA, and the default NE2000 compatible ethernet driver. We're to get a Socket LP-E compact flash ethernet card (with PCMCIA adapter) running so we can do some more app development. We've had this exact same card, with the exact same driver, running on our own hardware platform with no problems. Unfortunately, we see some goofy things on the Mainstone II. After booting, we see the card detect, we see PCMCIA run the detect routine for the driver, and we see the correct driver get loaded. When using DHCP, we even see an initial DHCP discovery packet go out from the card. However, we never see the card respond to the DHCP response. It really looks like we're not getting any interrupts from the card. We can remove the card, re-insert it, see the driver reload, etc, but we never get a transmit or receive interrupt. We've been digging down deep into the OAL to verify all of the interrupts are being properly enabled and disabled in the various OEMInterrupt* functions, and everything seems to be conceptually fine. But, we're seeing something strange when the driver tries to enable the interrupts on the board. The Mainstone II board has a big-honkin' FPGA that controls all of the PCMCIA interrupt sources. When we watch the driver try to unmask the interrupts through the FPGA's "Platform Interrupt Mask/Enable Register" it looks like it doesn't work. We see the correct bits getting sent to this register, but then when we read them back, it looks like they don't change. First, has anyone else actually used the PCMCIA driver for an NE2000 ethernet card on the Mainstone II board? (We're working with a modified PPC2003 BSP, build 016.) If so, have you seen any problems like this? We're starting to question the programming of the FPGA, and we're trying to get the code for it from Intel, but that always takes forever. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. This one has us stumped. (When our hardware guy starts suggesting things like physically replacing the FPGA, I get worried.) ;) Thanks in advance guys.  - CE QFE automatic Check utility questions With each of the quarterly releases of QFEs, there is a ceqfechk.exe utility installed in the windows/system32/ceqfecheck directory (this location on a WinXP box). I had hoped that this would be an easy way to verify that I had all the current QFEs, but have found that even after installing all the QFEs which I can find through the Microsoft search engine, it still shows a number of "invalid" files. Since there is no documentation sent with this tool, can someone explain what we should expect to see in this tool (should we be able to get to a point where there are no "invalid" files)? I continue to wish that there was a simpler way of knowing what updates are available, a simpler way of being informed when new updates are available, and a simpler way of getting them from Microsoft to my machine. It would seem that using the "Welcome to Platform Builder" web-page (which always appears when starting Platform Builder) would be the ideal location to place this kind of information. I think this would be of great use to the developer community, with not a lot of cost to Vocollect. A link to this platform builder newsgroup would probably be useful too.  - Windows CE parallel port access Hi, I have built a CE image using platform builder for PC and downloaded it to the PC. I have connected the PC to a HP Deskjet 640 for the purpose of testing the printers ports(parallel and USB). I tried to print from wordpad. The ports where listed (serial, parallel, IRDA but not USB). But printing didn't happen. Similarly I tried to open the device using CreateFile() with LPT1: as parameter. It also fails.  - Security/privacy problem in hive registry files Hi, I found that the hive registry files( user.hv,default.hv,boot.hv) contain the copy of environment of my DEVELOPMENT WORKSTATION( all SET zzz=xxx ). One of the env. vars is my logon name, which I don't want to be published on the millions of the devices we are going to sell :) I traced the problem and found that the regcomp utility heavy depends on the workstation env. settings.  - TrueFFS RFA support in CE 4.1 What does the trueffs driver in CE 4.1 support ? My understanding is that Microsoft licensed this from m- systems, and it is supposed to support Resident Flash Array for some flash devices, but some previous posts seem to indicate that it is still legal only for m-system DOC devices. I understand that is true if I get trueffs from m- system (its part of the user agreement), but I can't find that stated for the Microsoft version. Secondly, the CE 4.1 documentation gives a list of the MTDs and registration routines that support the different devices. When I look in \public\common\oak\drivers\block\trueffs\flcustom.c there are more flxxx routines listed. I'm specifically interested in the flRegisterAMDMTD(). Does this support some AMD chips that would have the Common Flash Interface ? I'm wondering if there is just a documentation issue and a few more chips are supported. Trying to build the sources leads to the following compiler error: power.cpp(1239) : error C2065: 'GetSystemPowerStatusEx' : undeclared identifier I found that the prototype of this function is sysgened out of winbase.h, because I didn't include the Battery Driver. Is there a way to do something like IF COREDLL_BATTERY in the sources file, to compile the power.cpp only if the Battery Driver is included?  - BltComplete function being called continuously Hi All I am developing a display driver. And i was working on BltComplete function. I tried to run an emulator image and it was working fine. But once i open mycomputer or internet explorer screen's my Bltcomplete function is being called with teh same destination rectange coordinates continuously though every drawing is completed. May be my BltComplete funtions is not returning properly. All i did was that i inserted a DEBUGMSG in the BltComplete function to find out the coordinates of teh rectangle that were being drawn at every stage. I am not using any hardware specific functionality in BltPrepare and BltComplete functions. If the window size is equal to the screen size, then i get this problem, but if the window size is less than the screen size BltComplete stops after completing the drawing for the window.  - Query on adding driver to a platform Hi all, I need to add a device driver to a platform created...I did the following steps. 1) Added the driver to the respective BSP through the BSP wizard 2) edited the platform.reg and added the respective entries 3) edited the platform.bib and added the name of the dll as required... when I build the platform, the driver.dll file is getting created, which is displayed on the output of the IDE... But when i download the OS image and check for the driver whether loaded or not using the CE Target control, I typed the command : gi mod This doesn't list my driver and so I take it as it's not included in the nK.bin...  - DEBUGCHK while entering a critical section I'm getting a DEBUGCHK firing at line 4861 of private\winceos\coreos\nk\kernel\schedule.c. This is inside function SC_TakeCritSec and the line concerned reads: DEBUGCHK(!pCurThread->lpProxy) I am using PB 4.2. Any ideas on what could be causing this ? The DEBUGCHK appears on the serial output so I can't resume execution.  - Disabling COM1 debug output I am trying to disable debug output on COM1. I searched on the groups for this and I found some answers. However, applying them doesn't seem to work. What I tried to do was to (based on the few posts I found on the subject) modify public\common\oak\csp\i486\oal\debug.c by setting ucComPort to 0 right before the switch statement so that it becomes: pBootArgs->ucComPort = 0; switch ( pBootArgs->ucComPort ) { case 1: IoPortBase = (PUCHAR)COM1_BASE; break; [...] default: IoPortBase = 0; break; } To build, I did the following: 1. Menu Build -> Open Build Release Directory (now in the prompt) 2. set wincerel=1 3. cd public\common\oak\csp\i486\oal\ 4. build -cf 5. sysgen -p common Finally, I ran a build image from the IDE.  - Bluetooth problem... Hi, I'm working on WinCE 4.2 bluetooth. From PB docs I understand that the bluetooth stack (btd.dll) is available. I wrote a HCI transport layer driver to link the stack and bluetooth module. I can able to establish the link by sending SYNC and CONF packets but the connection is lost when stack tries to send HCI command / event packets. I could not find out which layer is making problem as I could not compile and build the whole stack. Any help to rectify the problem is greatly appreciated.  - Emulator Hey I am new in Win CE, and my CE 4.20 doesn't understand me! In the tools menu I can contact and with succes test the emulator, but suddenly the debug/WCE-connect doesn't work. I have no network, but I have put in two NIC's and gave them dedicated IP-addresses, and this actually ran for a while. But not any more! And I don't know what im' doing wrong. I made an MFC activex control through the wizard in evc4. I added two methods. SetNumber and GetNumber. So far, we have had much success, basing our BSP heavily on CEPC. The kernel is coming up, a very simple display driver is in place, and we are able to launch userland processes. However, we have hit a major roadblock that is beginning to cause us much grief. Our device has a bit of a nonstandard PCI bus, so instead of using the PCI enumerator we decided to 'hardcode' the device settings in the registry, as there is really only one device we are concerned with, an OHCI usb controller.  - Multiprocessor Hi I have recently built a multiprocessor system. I am using wince 4.20 and a typical build on my machine takes 23 minutes (that is with deptrees enabled), If I then insert a second processor windows XP detects this and I then build with the environment variable BUILD_MULTIPROCESSOR = 1, this sets bldMP=2 BUILDING with __bldMP=-M 2 The build time is reduced from 23 minutes to 20 minutes.  - BUG: 16550 Software FIFO ISR In the software FIFO ISR DLL the function Isr16550() has the following line: pBlockVirt->dwEventIndex=pBlockVirt->dwEventCount=0; This is a problem as it resets the event count for every interrupt. Thus, if a new interrupt (say a data receive interrupt) occurs before the IST has had the chance to process the previous events in the event array they will ALL be lost! This will cause problems for handshaking control and can totally hose a communications protocol.  - Help on evc app debugging thru ActiveSync problems Hi, I'm using CE4.2, I have created and install a custom SDK for my device. I am using activesync as both the transport and startup server. I have included in my nk.bin image with base engine and ActiveSync module. I have uncheck all the build option in PB. I can use remote tools(remote registry editor,...) Now,here's the problem, the evc app have the same problem in both release and debug build. nk.bin is release build. in evc, when I press "build", after the startup server started, it shows a warning: "The targeted platform XXX does not match the connected platform. Continue?" Why does this happen? what's does it check whether it matches or not(some guid)? When I do continue, the evc app downloads fine. After that, I set a breakpoint and press "go" and I would get this "Debugger swap error" "eVC cannot locate a debugger able to debug the attached device. The debugger session cannot begin." do I need a kernal debugger option build?(I'll try again with this option) Are my settings suppose to work like this?  - restart PCMCIA wireless driver Hi all, I have a Linksys wireless PCMCIA card (WPC11) which can not reconnect to wireless network if it lost the network once, i have to reboot my ipaq. I tryied to use DeactivateDevice to unload the driver (it works fine) and ActivateDevice which does not work. I tryied to use deviceiocontrol as said in the KB Q304296 but it said that i can not do a IOCTL_NDIS_REGISTER_ADAPTER on PCMCIA card. How can i restart my driver ? does anyone successfully did this ?  - xscale doubt We have here with us a pxa255 processor board from hybus. It has 2 intel strata 16 MB flash, (so total 32 MB) one 64 MB SDRAM. It has a cs8900 ethernet adapter. We are using windows ce platform builder 4.0. I read that it support xscale architecture. We are having a problem, and do not know how to modify things to get the image loaded on to the board. We build a image by chossing XSC1BD architecture, and a PDA kernel. We did not modify boot.bib or config.bib, since we are not aware what we need to put in these files. We saw the fwxsc1.s file (startup file). we are using the jflash utility to flash eboot.bin into the flash memory. i was not able to understand, when i restart the board, nothing is happening, i am not even getting any stirngs on my hyperterminal, i doubt it is even going into the startup code.  - .BIN file format Hi everyone, Could someone please clarify the "Image Length" field? The description says that it is the "Physical length, in bytes, of the image." Does this mean the total number of bytes in the image or the total number of bytes that the image spans? Either way, it doesn't seem to make much sense. I have an eboot.bin file that has an image length field of 45992 bytes, but the size of the file itself is only 41k approximately. Can anyone explain how this field is calculated? Regards, Glenn.  - Bluetooth device name. Hi All, When another device (desktop) detects my bluetooth enabled WinCE 4.2 device, it uses the device name field in the System -> Device Name control panel tab as the CE devices' name. However, if I change that name in the control panel of my CE device and try to rediscover it on my desktop, the old name is used. The new name is only used after a suspend/resume or a reboot.  - How does TAPI (unimodem) know a device is attached or removed? When a modem is attached or removed, how does TAPI (unimodem) get notified? I am asking this because of a related problem. When I find a bluetooth modem and I activate it in the "Bluetooth Device Properties" control panel I can set up a dial up connection to it in the "Network and Dialup Connections" control panel. However, when I delete that device in the Bluetooth control panel I can still create a new dialup connection to it. RasEnumDevices() still returns this device. I think that this maybe done on purpose. Looking at the unimodem code I see that when it gets notified of a device being removed it actually marks the device as disconnected, out of service, and removed but does not delete it from it's list of devices. Is this why this device is still returned when I call RasEnumDevices()? Is this the expected behaviour? If yes, why?  - Confirmed ARMV4 Compiler Bug in PB4.2 Microsoft has confirmed that they have a 7-byte-structure-passed-by-value compiler bug in the ARMV4 compiler used with PB4.2. This happens in both debug and release code, so it is not an optimization issue. Since I am the only one to have reported this bug, and because it is known to not be a problem in the version of the the compiler that will be shipped sometime in the future with the next version of CE, they have chosen not to put any effort into fixing it for the current version. The issue can be reproduced very easily. It was also mentioned (but not verified) that this same ARM compiler is likely used with the eVC++ 4.X tools as well. The only way to verify that this is not an issue in your code is to search out all the structures and verify that either they are never 7 bytes long, or that they are never passed into a function by value. I would much rather see a QFE to fix this, but I am unfortunately resigned to search through our code and make sure no structures are ever passed by value. Arm9 is the master of the chip and we have certain protocols to communicate with the dsp and execute tasks(especially audio decoding) on it. Windows CE will be the OS which will be running on the Arm. The following figure shows the data flow for the audio data. ED ------- DD ------ -------------- ---| DSP |---->| DMA |--->| Audio Device | ------- ------ -------------- ED = Encoded Data, DD = Decoded Data Now we are trying to design a suitable multimedia architechture for the above described system.What i found from the CE documentation for Audio, i can use i) UAM and ACM for playing MP3 etc ii) To use the DirecShow architecture for Audio i.e to have filters that provide inteface to the DSP decoder. I am trying to evaluate the best suited approach for my system. But i am facing the following problems. Data decoded from the DSP can be directly transfred to the audio device using DMA. If i use any of the above approaches, i need to write ACM wrappers to interface with the DSP. This wrapper will receieve buffers of compressed audio, will shuttle the data over to the DSP, and the DSP uploads the results as per the current architecture and it cannot use DMA to directly transfer data to the audio device, as client of this wrapper would be waiting for the decoded data. a) I don't want to upload this decoded data rather play it directly using DMA. Is this possible with any of the above approaches? b) What are merits/demerits of the above approaches? c) Is there any other alternative to suit to my needs? Thanks in advance, A.  - Geode/MediaGX audio driver BIG problems Hi! For 1 week i'm trying to install audio drivers for PCM- 5822 Biscuit PC without any succes. Drivers are loaded, NO errors comming, i debuged all driver loading process - all control points are fine. I used Geode/MediaGX Audio (Unified) or Geode/MediaGX Waveform Audio Device drivers. But no sound! On the same platform under Win98 audio works FINE!!! All drivers are native, produced specially for geode platform - why it is SO BIG problem to use them? WHERE IS AUDIO MIXER? Hi,everyone

I setup the bios boot loader according to the cepb's help to load and
launch the WinCE OS image nk.bin, it works well.

Unfortunately,when I use cepb to build the bios boot loader(output bldr)
and set the boot disk using the same method(format partition C with "format
c:" and run the batch file mkdisk.bat with "mkdisk c:",using the new bldr
file while the bsect.img and cesys.com file is old),the boot loader can load
the OS image NK.bin to RAM(A directory "Documnts and settings" has been
created for Hive-based registry),but it seems that the boot loader can't
jump to the entry point of the OS and I got a black screen forever :(

How can I build my own bois boot loader correctly? Should I use a 16-bit
compiler?

Any help will be greate appreciated!
