Hi Sue,

Is there any way those of us down under can submit questions for these
online chat sessions before the event, to save us getting up at 4 in
the morning?

Cheers,
Dunk

Thanks very much Paul. My question is below:

I'm trying to use RNDIS to communicate between the WinCE 5.0 device I'm
developing, and a PDA running Windows Mobile 5.0. I've discovered that
many (if not all), devices running Windows Mobile 5.0 use a variant of
RNDIS (which i've seen referred to as ActiveSync RNDIS), and that the
USB RNDIS host drivers included with WinCE 5.0 don't recognise these
devices (i.e. they don't support the ActiveSync version of RNDIS). Do
the USB RNDIS host drivers included with WinCE 6.0 support ActiveSync
RNDIS? Also, are there any incompatibilities in the RNDIS procotol
between standard and ActiveSync RNDIS? I have been able to get the
WinCE 5.0 RNDIS drivers to talk to a device supporting ActiveSync RNDIS
by hacking the device descriptor reported by the HCD drivers.

Cheers,
Dunk

So, let me understand further, although you're probably asleep right now...

You want to communicate with the WM5 device. When you connect it, does
Windows CE 5.0 recognize that it's a RNDIS device at all? What do the debug
messages say when you make the connection? If things seem to be recognized,
is an IP address assigned to the new "adapter" that you've just added to
your CE5 device? What IP (we can check this for the right answer)? If an
IP is assigned, everything should work. You can send messages to the IP of
the WM5 device, which is something like 169.254.2.1 and you should be able
to get two-way communication. The RNDIS driver on the PC which works with
WM5 is just the regular standard RNDIS driver, as far as I can tell. It's
been updated fairly recently, maybe for WM5 devices, but it doens't appear
to be specific to them.

OK, so other than a simple, yes, it seems like it should be possible to use
the RNDIS driver in CE6 to do this, not much came out of the chat. I asked
the engineer who took the question on to check here, but I'm sure that more
details will be required. I'd start a new thread, if you haven't already
(and separate from the USB serial question), in the platbuilder group.
