In "Build OS" menu, there are three build options: "Sysgen", "Build and
Sysgen" and "Build and Sysgen Current BSP". I wonder when shall I use one of
them and which one shall I use? Could anyone tell me the detailed
differences of those three build options? Thanks!

Hi,
build and sysgen: builds all the codes (public, private etc) and then
sysgens it.
sysgen: uses the library files that are already built (from the public,
private) and builds the platform directory and creates the image.
build and sysgen current bsp: do the build for platform alone.

If u change the platform specific code then choose the last one. If u change
some catalog files then choose 2. If u change the public/private codes choose
1(BUT YOU SHOULD NOT CHANGE IT).

A search in this forum will provide you more details.

Hope this may be helpful to you

Regards,
Sankarraj

I'll add our standard advice: NEVER EVER USE "Build and Sysgen". In fact,
use the customization options in Platform Builder to REMOVE THIS ITEM FROM
YOUR BUILD MENU. There is no good reason for it to be there; you should
never need it.

Thanks for the advice!
But if I install some patches of Platform Builder, it seems that some files
in public folder will be changed. In this case, do I have to use "Build and
Sysgen"? If I do not use "Build and Sysgen" but use "Sysgen", it seems that
there will be errors during building...

If you install patches for PB that change files in public/private
folder, you have to do "Build and Sysgen".

Not required, the patches will come with binary files...So as Paul told
sysgen is enough...NO NEED OF BUILD AND SYSGEN...

What errors do you get. I have never used Build and Sysgen becuase of the
problems that it can cause. I always do Sysgen when applying QFEs or
changing SYSGEN_ variables.
