error when doing clean sysgen of new CEPC platform
I am trying to create a custom runtime image for a CEPC platform but
when I do a build and sysgen for CEPC: x86_Release, I get the
following error:
NMAKE : fatal error U1077: 'renumbericonids' : return code
'0xfffffffd'
I've tried doing a sysgen, build and sysgen, debug, retail, from PB,
from the commandline, etc. Nothing works
The platform builds just fine when doing a sysgen for the Emulator
though. Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Marty Neal

Newbee to PB (CEDDK question)
Hi Guys,
Presently I am working on Windows Mobile 5.0 TI OMAP 850 platform.
1) I would like to know how to generate the CEDDK.dll out of an exisiting
BSP, which has only the CEDDK.h header file and no .lib file?
2) Is it possible to use FSample BSP to create this CEDDK.dll and then use
it on other OEMs TI OMAP 850 platforms?
Thanks,

WinCE 4.2 2K Nand Flash got cut/paste problem
Hi all,
I follow the following email to modify the fsd and fmd driver in WinCE
4.2 two years ago. It works well until two weeks ago.
NAND driver and FAT filesystem
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsce.platbuilder...
Our customer found one bug. I can repeat the bug by following the
below steps.
1. Prepare 70 files in the nand flash folder, size from 1 byte to
100KByte.
2. Cut/paste them to the RAM file system i.e \temp folder.
3. Compare the files with the original files and found that the data
become all 0x00 in some of them.
I tried to put the original files in the RAM file system i.e. \temp
folder and cut/paste them to nand flash folder. The files are all ok.
I tried to put the original files in the Nand Flash folder and cut/
paste them to another nand flash folder. The files are ok.
I tried to put the original files in the RAM file system i.e. \temp
folder and cut/paste them to another RAM files sytem folder i.e.
\program files. The files are ok.
If the nand flash is 512 page nand flash, it don't have the above bug.
So you can only find the bug in 2K page Nand Flash.
If the OS is WinCE 5.0, don't have this bug.
The summary is that the bug only happened on WinCE 4.2 and 2Kpage Nand
Flash. The bug is only happened when cut/paste from 2K sector size FAT
file system to 512 sector size FAT file system.
Any suggestion?
Thanks and Regards

How can I hide a partition of DOM card(CE5.0)
Execuse me, I created two partitions on my DOM card, and my CE5.0
system image uses Hive-based registry, the registry files are placed in 1st
partition automatically when windows CE start.Now, I want to hide only 1st
partition in explorer:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles]
"AutoMount" = dword:1
"AutoPart" = dword:0
"AutoFormat" = dword:0
"MountFlags" = dword:2
"DefaultFileSystem" = ""
"PartitionDriverName" = "mspartl"
"Folder" = "å·²è£?å?¥ç??å?·"
"ActivityEvent" = "PowerManager/ActivityTimer/SystemActivity"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\HDProfile]
"MountHidden"=dword:1 ; // added by ZHIZI on 2007-04-10 16:19
"Name" = "IDE Hard Disk Drive"
"Folder" = "ç£?ç??"
"Folder" = "å·²è£?å?¥ç??å?·"
"MountAsBootable" = dword:1
Howewer, the 2 partitions can all be seen in explorer. In Windows CE
5.0 MSDN, I found that "MountHidden" Specifies a hidden file system, set to 1
to enable. But I don't know why it doesn't take effect. Help me, please. Tag: VirtualPC 7 - CEPC Tag: 98957

Poor performance of diskcache.dll?
Hi all,
My company makes a GPS platform based on WinCE 5.0 S3C2440. It has 64MB of
NAND flash, which is more than enough to fit the mapping application.
However, the map database is fairly large and requires a 1GB SD card.
No problem.
However, when the application runs, it slows to a crawl due to the
excessively fragmented nature of the file accesses it implements. So, I
decided to more carefully examine the caching possibilities of WinCE 5.0.
The FATFS caching is handled by PRIVATE\WINCEOS\COREOS\STORAGE\DISKCACHE.
After much tracing and message printing I noticed that diskcache's algorithm
doesn't have any support for pre-fetching (reading some sectors in advance);
so, for each 1-sector request comming from the upper layers, diskcache reads
only 1 sector from the disk, if there is a cache miss, and stores only that
sector in the buffers; no further read-ahead is done. I cloned and tweaked
diskcache to implement a read-ahead of 64 sectors (minimum) and now the
application starts beautifully with thousands of cache hits; it is about 10
times faster and actually usable.
Am I missing something? Is there any simple configuration that enables the
read-ahead feature? Here are my FATFS customized registry entries:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
"FriendlyName"="FAT FileSystem"
"Flags"=dword:00000064
"Util"="fatutil.dll"
"CacheDll"="diskcache.dll"
"BufferSize"=dword:40
"FatCacheSize"=dword:200
"DataCacheSize"=dword:800
"CacheSize"=dword:800
"DLL"="fatfsd.dll"
"EnableCache"=dword:1
"EnableFatCacheWarm"=dword:0
"EnableDataCacheWarm"=dword:0
"EnableWriteBack"=dword:1
"Paging"=dword:1
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\MSFlash\FATFS]
"FriendlyName"="FAT FileSystem"
"Dll"="fatfsd.dll"
"Flags"=dword:00280014
"Paging"=dword:1
"CacheSize"=dword:800
"EnableCacheWarm"=dword:0
"EnableCache"=dword:1
"MountFlags"=dword:2
"MountAsROM"=dword:0
"BufferSize"=dword:40
"FatCacheSize"=dword:800
"DataCacheSize"=dword:800
"EnableCache"=dword:1
Besides, if I decide to use my modified diskcache.dll, am I allowed to do
that, since this is derived from the PRIVATE tree?
Thanks!

SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition
I can't be the only one confused by SQL Server on mobile devices. I am
trying to get the new SQL Server 2005 CE on my Windows CE 5.0 device. In
Platform Builder I have SQL Mobile listed as a catalog item. That is what
I'm using right now. It comes with .dll files that are dated for 9/2/2005
and version numbers of 3.00.5206.0. This has to be SQL Mobile 3.0. To me it
looks like SQL Server 2005 CE has files dated 12/22/2006 and version numbers
of 3.00.5300.0. I found this KB article on MSDN:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918066
It says "A supported software update to resolve this issue is now available
from Microsoft." Where is that update at? Are they talking about adding SQL
Mobile to Platform Builder? Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks. Tag: VirtualPC 7 - CEPC Tag: 98947

CE 5.0 Eboot and USB Host
Hi All,
I have two problem.
Problem 1
========
I am trying to download CEPC through an Ethernet connection (Eboot).
But my NIC driver initializations are failing. I checked the same with
two PC and the results are same. I have the following network cards.
But these cards are not added in kitldrv.c file. so,
1) PC1 NIC card, Vendor ID 0x14E4, Dev ID 0x170C ( Broadcom made )
2) PC2 NIC card, Vendor ID 0x8086, Dev ID 0x27DC ( INTEL Made )
Does any one know any patch or latest version which supports NIC from
these Manufactures?. I am using WIN CE 5.0
Problem 2
=======
In MS-DOS mode, I loaded CEPC using loadcepc. I enabled the USB UHCI/
OCHI and EHCI support in the build and the registry entries are added.
Also from the boot console, I could see UHCD logs like "UHCD:
Installed ISR handler" etc.
1) But after booting, when I plug a USB device, there is no hardware
pop-up ( or any kind of notification) for driver installation ( I
added PnP Notifications during build, but don't know whether this is
applicable)
2) How do I view the drivers and devices in a standalone CEPC. I mean
"Device Manager" kind of stuff in CEPC.
3) What kind of diagnostic tools are used in CE for driver
development. I mean outside remote PB tools, as I am not able to
connect the PB to target CEPC.
Thanks in advance

ActivateDeviceEx() fails...
Hi all,
these days I have developed my first "Device-Driver" for CE-based devices.
The "Device-Driver" is actually a quite simple DLL that exposes a
stream-interface
to clients. Clients can act upon the driver via CreateFile(), ReadFile(),
WriteFile and
DeviceIoControl(). The drivers purpose is simply to write Debug-Messages to
a file.
I have thoroughly tested the DLL-Entrypoints with a client in user-mode.
I'm now tryin to load the driver via ActivateDeviceEx().
I have created a registry-key "Drivers\RZS_LogDrv" under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
which has the following values:
Value-Type REG_SZ, Value-Name: DLL, Value "\Program
Files\RZS_LogDrv\logdrv.dll"; (this is the path to my DLL").
Value-Type REG_SZ, Value-Name: Prefix, Value "RZS"; (this is the prefix used
by the exported functions e.g. RZS_Init()).
Value-Type REG_DWORD, Value-Name: Index, Value "0"; (this is the index used
to form the device-name as in "RZS0:").
Value-Type REG_SZ, Value-Name: IClass, Value
"{A4E7EDDA-E575-4252-9D6B-4195D48BB865}";
(this is the (predefined) GUID for the stream-driver interface).
My call to ActivateDeviceEx looks like this:
const TCHAR* pszRegPath = _T("Drivers\\RZS_LogDrv");
HANDLE hDevice = ActivateDeviceEx(pszRegPath, NULL, 0,
NULL);
The return value is always NULL and GetLastError() reports 1610
(ERROR_BAD_CONFIGURATION)!
What did I wrong? Can somebody help me?
Thanks in advance and best regards

[WinCE 5.0] How-to disable idle modes...
Hi everybody,
I use PB 5.0 on a Phycore PXA-270 board with Adeneo's BSP...
I try to disable all idle modes in my image because the system must stay
awake every time.
To do that, in "project.reg" I wrote :
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\Timeouts]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power]
"DisableGwesPowerOff"=dword:1
But after 15', my system go nonetheless into 'coma mode'...
I verified that the registry contain the informations above.
Do I forget something else ?
Many thanks for your help.

Loading a driver from other driver
Part A:
I have two stream interafce drivers driver_A and driver_B.
Driver_B is dependent on driver_A and i want to load driver_B from
driver_A.
How can I achieve this ?
Should I call LoadLibrary or ActivateDevice() from driver_A to load
driver_B ?
Is the XXX_Init function of driver_A the right place to call for
loading driver_B?
One more problem is driver_B once it gets loaded it will issue ioctls
to driver_A?
What is the best approach for this scenario?
Part B:
Driver_A will receive data from hardware and it needs to pass this
data to driver_B
Which is the best form of communication between drivers - events,
message_queues,etc, considering performance as very critical ?
Can I have more stream interface drivers over driver_B to form a
hirearchial layering of drivers ? Tag: VirtualPC 7 - CEPC Tag: 98911
How to do Priority Assignment?
Hi friends,
I want to make serial communication(RS232) the most important task of CPU. I
mean, any task other than serial communication(be it usb, printer, display,
keyboard, mouse etc) should be done only after serial communication is done.
What steps can I do to realize this? Any comment is greatly appreciated.

location of CE's vector table
Would someone kindly ask my following question ?
Usually MPUs support low end (0x0000_0000) vector table location, but
processors like some ARM processors support high end (0xFFFF_0000) vector
table location as well. It was said that the high end vector table location
is added for the requirement of OSs like CE. Must CE require this ? If a MPU
core only supports low end vector table location, what would happen to run CE
on it: CE can't work or there are some extra processing needed to do in CE so
reducing its performance, etc.

Suspend/resume - exception on resume
Hi all,
I have posted this issue before ("Suspend/resume causes system halt" on

I open it again here. It seems to be related to the presnce of an SD card

an SD card present, after a while I get the following error message:

A new device type for SD/MMC card winCE
Hi
We had developed an device, that uses a subset of SD/MMC commands, and
are now in the process of writing the device driver for it in winCE
5.0. Now in the SDcardDDK there are only 4 types of devices whose
functionality is ported
// enum for device type
typedef enum _SDCARD_DEVICE_TYPE {
Device_Unknown = 0,
Device_MMC = 1,
Device_SD_Memory = 2,
Device_SD_IO = 3,
Device_SD_Combo = 4 // combo is only an intermediate device type
reserved only for the bus driver
}SDCARD_DEVICE_TYPE, *PSDCARD_DEVICE_TYPE;
I had read in many articles and the winCE help that usually the bus
driver is not touched and only the HOST controller driver or client
driver are modified according to the device requirements. Now I want
to add a fifth type of device, and hence change the implementation of
the SD Bus driver to accommodate my specific device type. Also our
device can support a large sized card. i.e 32 bit addresses wont cut
it for us. Which means that the Bus driver as well as the SDCardDDK
will have to be modified.
Now what is confusing me is how to package the modified bus driver.
The packaging of the client driver and HC driver is straightforward.
But for the SD bus driver, should i create a new msi installer, which
will patch the original SD bus driver code and appropriate header
files, or should I create a completely new catalog item (e.g
SDModifiedBus driver) with a separate source folder.
I want to know if anyone has any experience of changing the bus driver
according to their needs. and if yes how was it packaged in the form
of a catalog item or msi Installer.
Thanks

QFE for Windows CE .NET 4.2

Is it possible for someone from Microsoft to organise the Knowledge Base

I found that many known bugs that have been written in KB in another
languages are not fixed and pulished with QFE. Therefore it's very
disorganize and troublesome to fix the bugs manually one by one.
For example, the following Google keyword:
Windows CE NET 4.2 kbbug -QFE -837392 site::support.microsoft.com
returns those KB bugs that has not been fixed with QFE.
Furthermore, some KBs are written in another languages which doesn't have

disabling reverse DNS for the web server

"REMOTE_HOST
The host name of the client or agent of the client (for example,

enabled. Otherwise, this value is set to the IP address specified by
REMOTE_ADDR."

Display Driver for CE 6.0
Hi,
I'm sorry for posting this query in multiple groups.
I'm trying to develop a DirectDraw Display driver for Windows CE 6.0. I
started with building a simple GDI based display driver using the GPE class
and have verified this driver functionality. I've also executed the GDI test
CETK tests on this implementation.
Now I'm trying to extend this driver to incorporate the DirectDraw features
using the DDGPE Class and the implementing the DDHAL. The required functions
are complete and is building correctly. To test I tried to use the DDEX1
sample application. I observed that this application fails to initialize the
DirectDraw. On further probing I found that the function DDGPECreateSurface
fails declaring the format to be un-supported.
The GDI driver is using the gpe_24bpp format and the bit mask is as follows.
R-Mask is 0x000000FF
G-Mask is 0x0000FF00
B-Mask is 0x00FF0000
I found that the default bit-mask are different from the one being used in
our driver and thus the DDGPECreateSurface is failing. Is this color format
really an un-supported. Or is there something I'm missing out.
Any suggestions would be of great help.
Thanking you in advance.

USB mass storage issue
We are facing some issue on the USB mass storage, let me explain the situation:
My current setup is
Target: ARM9 based Board.
Os : WinCE 5.0.
Host : Windows XP SP 2
Issue:
1) Target is configured as USB Device mass storage.
2) an SD card is plugged on the target.
3) On the PC, the SD card contents are visible.
4) When the card is replaced, the contents of the new one are not detected.
The PC screen still shows the content of the previous card only.
Currently as we understand:
1) The SDI driver is not communicating with USB driver for Card insertion &
removal events.
2) Any event on the USB, the PDD notifies the MDD. But we see that only USB
attach, detach & reset events being supported by the MDD (looking at the MDD
sources). There isn't anything events for card insertion/removal.
Is MS aware about this issue?
Does it come from MS USB stack or MS SD stack or from somewhere else?
There is some patch to solve this issue? Tag: VirtualPC 7 - CEPC Tag: 98815

some variables in sources.cmn but they seem to be changed during the
build process.
Typically here is how is defined a variable in sources.cmn (several
other variables have the same problem) :
__PROJROOT=$(_TARGETPLATROOT)\src\$(WINCEPROJ)
In order to better understand whats happening I have added some
trace :
in sources.cmn
!MESSAGE sources.cmn __PROJROOT : $(__PROJROOT)
in sources
!MESSAGE sources __PROJROOT : $(__PROJROOT)
I build the project and then in build.log I have the folowing trace :
BUILD: [01:0000000014:INFO ] sources.cmn __PROJROOT : C:
\WINCE500\platform\alpilles\src\csp_pxa27x
BUILD: [01:0000000023:INFO ] sources __PROJROOT : C:\WINCE500\public
\csp_pxa27x
The first one has the expected value.
So my question is, what, or who may change that vaue between
sources.cmn and sources ?
Maybe I am following a wrong way, is there a simpler way to integrate
my changes without overwritting public/csp_pxa27x content ? Tag: VirtualPC 7 - CEPC Tag: 98809

If so
