    - network configuration control panel app question in CE.NET 4.2 Selecting "Start/Settings/network and dial up connections" launches the network and dialup connections contorl panel app. Is this connpnl.cpl? I found that SYSGEN_CONNMC is what is set to get connpnl to be built but what feature is tied to SYSGEN_CONNMC? Next, if I select "Advanced/Advanced Settings", I get a list of network adapters. 1. I can change the order from this application. How do I change the order programatically or from initial registry settings. 2. Is there a benefit in changing the order of network adapters? 3.     - Is there a better method to embed a application into OS image ? Hi, I would like to put a software into my OS ROM image. Howerver, the software contains many directories and many files. When I put all directories and files in "\WinCE420\Platform\SMDK2410\Files" directory, I still keep the original hierarchy. Howerver, finally all those files still are in \Windows directory of OS. It is flat and no hierarchy exists. I come up with two methods, but I do not like them. 1) I can use Platform.dat to re-construct the directory hierarchy and copy the files to the expected directories. Drawback: It is very inconvenient for me because there are many directories and many files. If third-party give me the new version, I have to re-write the platofrm.dat again. 2) Package all files into a cab file and put the cab file into \Windows directory. After cold-boot device, launching a program to install the software by cab file. Drawback: It is not like to embed the application into the OS ROM image. Which method do most developers often use ?     - S3 Twister Installation Problem Hi all, I have to build a runtime image for a PCM-9575 with a VT8606 via chipset. I downloaded the current driver, installed it(with the .msi file), created a new platform and replaced the default display driver with the DXProSavage driver. Then there appeared a little red cross on my component and figured out, that the driver has been excluded from the platform. The reason for exclusion was: 'The DDI_DXPROSAVAGE.DLL is not referenced in the BSP's bib file. The BSP may not support this driver.' Please, help me.     - How to use Linux bootloader to load Windows CE kernel image? Hello, I would like to use blob bootloader to load the Windows CE kernel on a PXA-255 based custom board. Blob has been ported/modified to work on this custorm board. It works fine to boot Linux Image. I would like to know whether I could use the same boot loader to boot Windows CE without making much or no change in it. Any pointers/suggestions would be of helpful. Below is the configuration/feature of this custom board. Processor Intel=AE PXA255 @ 200/300/400MHz Memory FLASH 16MB SDRAM 64 MB Local Bus Expansion Through header (with suitable buffering) Display Support On Board LCD header housing LCD control and data pins to which LCD could be interfaced On Board Ports FFUART, USB Client, JTAG header, Irda Ethernet support is not there on the board. And we do not have JTAG emulator/debugger. We have JTAG port/cable and flashing software to download bootloader, RAMDisk software and the Linux image.     - Windows Messenger connect fail! Hi, I run a proxy server in my PC, and select Internet Explorer/Tools/Options/Connection, then checked both the "Use LAN(no autodial)" and "Access the Internet using a proxy server" options, and iputted the correct Address & Port value, so I found my Internet Explorer can access WWW successfully, but the Windows Messenger could not login, the popup message is: "We were unable to sign you in to .NET Messenger Service, possible because of a problem with the service or with your Internet connection. Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet", why this occur? Notes: 1, I'm running WinCE5.0 emulator. 2, The same account can login in successfully in PC. 3, The same problem will also occur in my developing-board, never success.     - Display Driver: Testing And Debugging I have a PXA255 evaluation board on Win CE 4.2 and am trying to integrate it to a monochrome STN LCD 320x240 panel. They supplied with a reference display driver which appears to be a derivative of the Microsoft sample XScale display driver. By playing with the timing values, I coaxed it to display something - but the it appears that every other vertical band of 5 pixels is reversed. Example: if this **^^**^^ is supposed to be the pattern then it display it as ^^**^^** Is the software sending the correct data? If so, how can I verify that? Is there such thing as a STN display emulator? Or is this a timing problem and thus I should play some more around the LCD controller's register settings?     - Exposing KernelIoControl How do I get KernelIoControl and associated definitions (DEVICE_ID, IOCTL_HAL_GET_DEVICEID, etc) into an SDK for my custom platform? In the Pocket PC 2003 SDK there's a "uniqueid.h" header file that has some of these definitions in it. There is no such header file in the SDK I generated from my platform.     - CE5.0 with multiple network cards - image hangs Dear experts, we are trying to make an demo product for one of our prospective customers. They wish a WindowsCE based network device. So we started from an Enterprise Web pad, Platform Builder 5.0, and a LEX board (x86 like, 3 soldered in RTL8139 adapters). The debug image was built, just by adding a network capabilities of one RTL8139 adapter from PB5 catalog ( no such provision like 'Second RTL' is available in PB5). Assuming that multiple driver instances will be created at run time. When only one network adapter is enabled by jumpers, debugger runs and image is more or less stable. However, if 2 network adapters are enabled by jumpers, the kernel debugger only progresses to a certain point where image always hangs. The last debugger output is below : ------------ ....     - Multiple Interface USB Class driver loading in CE5.0 for OHCD Hi, I am writting a USB class driver which have 2 interfaces. I have only one DLL which takes care of both interfaces of the USB device. So at device attach time [inside USBDeviceAttach()],I am loading my single driver using ActivateDevice() function.I am also creating the required pipes for both interfaces in same USBDeviceAttach() function. Here my USBDeviceAttach() function is successful but USB OHCI stack keeps asking for driver name in a popup window.Where am I wrong? Do I need to load the same DLL two times for the two interface I have as it seems that stack wants me to load driver for both interface seperately. How to get out of this problem? Thanks a lot.     - Driver Global Hanging Hi, I ported one BSP on PXA255. It;s working fine in my first board. The same code is hanging when i access DriverGlobals in my Bootlaoder OEMPlatformInit(). It;s hanging exactly at the line memset((LPVOID)pDriverGlobals,0,sizeof(DRIVER_GLOBALS)); The difference between current hardware board and previous board is not related to SDRAM/Flash Memory. Only there is a change in Ethernet interface. If i remove accessing DRV_Globals in my entire Eboot it's able to download OS image, i verified that. BUt, after that it's hanging in OEMInit().     - Connect or disconnect from network Hi, I would like to figure out to detect when a ce 4.2 device is connected or disconnect to or from the network. I found the API call CeSetUserNotificationEx(). I set the trigger event to CNT_EVENT, and the trigger event type to NOTIFICATION_EVENT_NET_CONNECT or NOTIFICATION_EVENT_NET_DISCONNECT.     - NDIS hanging during Init I am trying to get an NDIS driver working on our system. During bootup, Device.exe loads the PCI bus driver, which enumerates our network card. It then loads ndis and points it to that card's instance. So far so good. NDIS calls the driverentry in the card's driver, and then calls MiniportInitialize. Both of those complete fine. However, at this point things don't progress any more. My driver continues to get MiniportSetInformation calls periodically and it handles them. But NDIS_Init never completes, which doesn't allow device.exe to load any more devices or complete. Any already initialized devices continue to run, so it isn't a system hang, interrupt issue, exception, or complete device.exe hang. I can use kernel tracker and see that most time is in the idle thread. What can cause NDIS_Init to hang while initializing a card after MiniportInitialize is complete? Previously, I was offloading the NIC buffers in MiniportISR and passing them to the stack in MiniportHandleInterrupt since the calls to NdisMEthIndicateReceive take so long to copy the data and pass it on. In CE 5.0, it appears that MiniportISR can no longer interrupt MiniportHandleInterrupt, so this approach is failing. For test purposes I have loaded a font file from my development PC and all is fine. However since the fonts that are supplied with the SDK / Platform Builder do not include arabic script I am wondering if there would be a Licensing issue with using the equivalent font file taken from a Windows XP installation - or maybe the reason there is no arabic on CE is simply to save space - not a lisencing issue? After configuring the registry USB function controller driver for Mass storage class and connected the device, I found that one of the command in mass storage READ_FORMAT_CAPACITY (0x23) was not supported. I spent a lot of time trying to get the performance I wanted in CE 4.1 and ended up never being able to get the stack to accept packets with NdisMIndicateReceivePacket and return NDIS_STATUS_PENDING. It always copied the data and returned immediately with NDIS_STATUS_SUCCESS. I'm wondering if this optimized receive handling is now enabling this functionality in CE where a packet might never get copied, but just passed up and down the stack until return to the driver pool with MiniportReturnPacket.     - CPU Utilization Changing with Remote Tools Hello, I have a unique problem under WINCE 5.0 I have a network application that seems to be hogging the CPU - It takes up about 60-70% of the processor. This was unacceptable so I started looking into what could be causing the problem. During this debugging process I found something a little confusing ... If I connect the Remote Call Profiler (simply connect, not even launching an app or collecting data - i.e. just having ConPMon.exe running) my App's efficiency all of a sudden drops to an expected value of 10-15% utilization. My first thought was that the Remote Performance Monitor was just reporting the utilization wrong so I ran a TOP like program and it verified this behaviour. I still didn't like it so I hooked a scope up to my board and used the idle routine and a led toggle and sure enough my scope shows the same results. So, I'm left with ConPMon.exe kicking my system into a "good" state. I can disconnect the profiler, restart the app and everything is fine. The system stays in a â??goodâ?? state. This happens if I connect via activesync or a tcp manual cemgr. No other remote tool does this (put system into a "good" state). Moreover, no other tool will remove the system from a "good" state except for the Remote Kernel Tracker. If I try to use the Remote Kernel Tracker all bets are off - the system goes back into a "bad" state and the app runs at 60-70% CPU utilization. Between these two system states the registry is the same. I've tried switching thread priorities and quantum times of my app. With an OS debug build the App runs at around 25% but comparing a retail build to a debug build is a little trickier. I canâ??t seem to find out what constitutes a â??goodâ?? state. I'm leaning toward a socket select call or overall TCP/UDP state causing my problem. The app is pretty simple and only single threaded. ConPMon.exe and my App share the following module linkages: wspm, ssllsp, ws2 (and of course coredll) - all IP "stuff". If anyone is familiar with what might be going on while loading ConPMon.exe and/or the remote kernel tracker and might have some ideas as to what their threads might be changing I would greatly appreciate it.     - SetSystemMemoryDivision kills my display? I'm working on a PXA255-based device. I have two different CE images based on the same BSP, the only difference is in catalog components (one falls into the Core license, one into the Pro license). With one image (Pro) the device boots fine, everything is ok. With the other build (Core), when a call to SetSystemMemoryDivision is made that gives Storage Memory < ~20% of available RAM (not sure exactly the division, but it's around there) then the display goes blank. A scope on the pixel clock shows it has quit running. The OS itself is still running. I believe there's a bug somewhere that is in both, but is only manifesting in one image. I also think the fact the pixel clock is killed is just happenstance, on the other image it's probably stepping on memory less obvious. To make things more interesting, KITL and kernel debugging are not an option right now (don't ask), which is why I've not traced into the call. So my questions actually are: 1.     - Issue: netcard driver with hive-based registry in Gateway Platform Hi all, When i build a platform on gateway without hive-based registry streaming, ping, network copying, rest of the applications work fine when i build a platform on gateway with hive-based registry streaming, ping keeps working fine but when network copy is given the following error message is displayed on the host machine connected to gateway. [ cannot copy xxx(filename): The specified network name is no longer available ] and then on the netcard driver no longer performs any operation. To be specific Gateway stops working. When our netcard driver was benchmarked with RTL8139 ethernet driver with hive-based registry enabled and streaming, ping along with network copy was run we observed the similar message on host m/c [ cannot copy xxx(filename): The specified network name is no longer available ] but rest of the applications continued to perform and the Gateway continued to work fine. Now when I connect to my Notebook I get a "Stall send on In Endpoint = 0x1", followed by a 10-20 seconds timeout, then a Stall again. But after some (usually 2-3) loops the Mass Storage device is detected correctly and mounted. Then it works stable for reads and writes. The interesting thing is that if I enable the "Transport" debug zone int the USB function driver, the mass storage is recognized immediately, without stalling. I suspect there is a timing problem somewhere. Another strange thing: if I loopack the USB fucntion with the USB Host on our CE platform the USB mass storage disk is never detected correctly. I get the following Debug Messages in an infinite loop: BOT_DataTransfer error(5.3.3, dwCswErr:1460, dwUsbErr:0x0, dwTimeout:4000) Retry CSW But maybe this is a problem with the USB Mass Storage Client driver on the Host side (I had some problems with other USB mass storage devices in the past) I know there should be some fix available from Microsoft, but I cannot wait much longer.     - power management issue of WinCE 5.0 Hello, We are getting the problem about power management in the WinCE 5.0. The OS and its entire software stacks cannot recover after going to suspend state. The same problem is mentioned by the Intell in the release note of "830DSTB WinCE 5.0 BSP V3.0". Thay allready fixed this problem in this BSP version.
