Hi,

This week I tried Vista. It seams that I can't make Platform Builder 5.0
works under Windows Vista. The program starts but when I try to build it
hangs (not responding). Anyone was able to make it work on Vista?

PB 5.0 and even 6.0 at this point are not supported on Windows Vista each
has known problems which prevent it from fully working.

I am considering migration to vista.

V5. just won't install or generally won't work if you manage to fool it into
installing.
V6.0 will have all the issues of VS and any number of unknown issues for PB
6 extensions as Vista wasn't tested. VS is slated to have a service pack for
Vista support last I heard.

I wouldn't touch it with a 500 foot pole if I was you. (For more reasons
than just PB/VS support)

Agreed. Vista is great, and I'm using it right now and for all of my day to
day work, but there are some good reasons to avoid it for now. PB 5.0 is one
of those reasons.

Versions prior to 6.0 will not install under Vista. If you spend enough time
hacking the MSI, you could probably get it to install and mostly work, but
the following parts will never work no matter how much prodding you give it:
- x86 emulator
- Network Virtual Switch

Connectivity might also have some trouble.

The whole scenario is completely untested. The bottom line is that PB 5.x is
not supported on Vista.

Version 6.0 mostly works, but certain VS 2005 issues also cause issues for
PB. Note that this IS being tested, and we are working on fixes. VS 2005 SP1
will fix some of the issues. There will probably be QFEs/Updates to PB to
address other issues.

Note that there is a known issue with installing PB and then VS 2005 SP1
Beta. Installing SP1 Beta and then PB 6.00 seems to work better.

In fact I installed Platform Builder. When Installing it and running it under
Administrator user there is no problem with it. Of course I don't use many of
the feature proposed by PB5.

But when installing it as a normal user it opens but I can't build.

My version of Vista is Ultimate.

Good for you. (I'm impressed.)

The next step would be to give the Users group read/write permissions to
your WINCE500 directory.
