    - Installing Device Driver in Kernel Mode Hello, I am porting an device driver from CE 4.20 to 6.0 and need to install the driver as a Kernel mode instead of User Mode. I have been wrestling with this for a few days now and can not find any information on how to do this. I need this device driver running in kernel mode because about every 100 mSecs we make around 25 - 30 DeviceIOControl calls into the driver to read some data of a PCI bus. With the driver running in User Mode the system runs for a while and then just reboots. I seem periodic failures error codes of 0x80070057 (The parameter is incorrect.), I am guessing that the driver while running in UserMode can not handle this amount of traffic from what I have read. I have tried changing the "Flags" registry entry for the driver to have the without success. Any help that can be given would be great.     - RAS Difference between CE 5.0 and XP Hello, I am trying to solve a problem that I am having using RAS for CE 5.0. I am using a dial up satellite modem and it is VERY slow. I can connect to a remote network (dial up) using XP. At this point I can do anything (albeit taking a horrible amount of time). On my CE device, I can get the RAS dial up to connect. Then Nothing! I am attempting to do an "InternetConnect" call in order to FTP some information. This call always returns a 12002 (timeout). I have set up all the available timeouts (using InternetSetOption) to 5 minutes. I don't think the problem is in my InternetConnect function itself as I can connect using a GSM modem without any problems. The difference between the two is primarily speed. What might the settings be in XP that makes it work? Might there be a comparable setting in CE? Please let me know if you have any insight on this extremely frustrating problem.     - GetDescriptor does not return with USB 2.0 devices Hello, I'm trying to make USB 2.0 devices work on a CEPC with EHCI/OHCI Host controllers. I've installed all the USB related QFEs. If I insert a USB 1.1 flash key, EHCI passes control to OHCI and all works fine.     - Hardware Access from Application We have a custom platform with a lot of special-purpose hardware on it. Under CE 6.0, all of the hardware access must be done by a device driver. I wrote one to wrap our hardware, but it sure would be better for us if our application could access the hardware directly. Is there a way to do this in WinCE 6.0? Could I write a device driver that would map the physical addresses to a calling process's virtual address space? (if so, what API would do that for me?)     - mount/format nand flash FATFS-partition problems Hi, I'm trying to create and mount a FATFS partition from NAND flash (CE 6), as an "external drive" so to speak. In control panel -> storage manager I see a DSK1 partition. When adding files to the mounted folder the files are actually put in flash (Checked from outside of OS). However when rebooting the system, this partition is never detected so at every reboot the entire flash is reformated and a new DSK1 partition is created. If registry settings autoformat and autopartition is '0' it simply does not mount anything.     - Adding a Certificate to NK.bin? We have a device that will be deployed on shop floor networks. It is essentially guaranteed that the device will not have access to the Internet. I have a requirement that I verify executables on a thumb drive originated with our company prior to running them (for maintenance and/or upgrades). I thought I would sign the executables (we do that already) and verify the signature. Since the device cannot go the the certificate authority (Verisign in our case) and get our certificate, the certificate needs to be installed.     - NAND Flash In NAND flash document I could not find any terms referring to Sector. I found blocks and pages in NAND flash. But In WindowCE FMD always reference to sector address. 1. For example Sector Address =0x00000140 means which block and which page in the block it is refering to. My nand flash is only 64MB of 512Mbits x8 device. window CE NBoot debug message shows total sector 56916. But the nand flash documentation tells total 4096 blocks ,each blocks 32 page, each page is 512 bytes. I could not corelate the sector with nand flash block and pages size. I implemented the system activity timer. but, still its not working. for example, if the system plays media player, the system should reset the timer before it expires.     - .NET 2.0 not selectable in catalog Hello again, The story starts like this. We need to integrate a product that uses the .NET CF (compact framework) 2.0 SP1 into our CE 5.0 image. So, I installed the 20061231 QFE rollup from Microsoft. The install seemed to complete just fine. Then I re-opened platform builder 5, removed .NET version 1 from my workspace, and went to select .NET version 2. I then discovered that I could not select either "Add to OS design" or "View Dependencies," the options were greyed out. I was able to add .NET version 2 via manually selecting the environment variable, then building. My questions are: why is GUI option still greyed out, and how do I correct that?     - trouble with deploying at C# hi? My environment is PB5.0 for os building and visual studio 2005 team edition for c# app developing. Of course, I added dotnet cf catalog to the os design. The problem is all files in C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\\SmartDevices\\SDK\\CompactFramework\\2.0\\v2.0\\WindowsCE\\wce500\\x86 are deployed at every time when the app is run. So the total consumed time for executing the app is so much, over 3 minutes. This phenomenon isn't happened from the first os. On updating my os design, this problem is happened.     - Converting PCM Wav files to GSM6.1 format I am writing a program to convert PCM Wav files to other formats like mula, GSM6.1, ADPCM etc. When I call acmFormatSuggest for the format tag WAVE_FORMAT_GSM610 I get an Not Possible error(512). This codec is installed on my system and I am able to use another program to convert my WAV file to GSM6.10 format.     - Removing .db file entry for PUBLIC item Hi, I'm looking for any creative solutions that you might have found to the following problem: I have ActiveSync in my build, but do not want it to start automatically every time there is an RS232 connect event (this is annoying and does not fit the usage model of our device; manual start is fine, when ActiveSync is to be used). This is all well and good, but when you include ActiveSync in the configuration, you *always* get datasync.db included in your image and that *always* puts the database entries to start ActiveSync in the notification database. The help page for ActiveSync says, "If you do not need AutoNotify, remove this entry.", but that was obviously written by someone who has never used PB in the real world. I shouldn't modify PUBLIC, as I don't want to prevent *every* device that I might build from having this feature, just the ones that I choose. Unlike registry files, there does not appear to be a way to indicate that a given entry should be removed from the database via some .db file that I create (or via entries added to project.db or something easy and sensible). So, I could somehow forcably copy my own datasync.db over the top of the one from ActiveSync found in the flat release directory, or I could edit the PUBLIC code to remove the AutoNotify entry and assume that I'll remember to put it in my own .db file on any device that *should* have it.     - Swap ANSI Code Pages Hi! What has to be done to swap the ANSI code page on Windows CE? All available languages have been implemented into the compiled WinCE kernel. They appear in Regional Settings / Your locale. It is possible to swap the locale but it has no effect on the ANSI code page. Registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\International\ACP is set to 1252 and has to be swapped to 1250. But setting it, flushing and cold booting has no effect. The value is set to 1250 but the active code page remains 1252. So the registry setting seems to be for informational use only. - Is it possible to swap the ANSI code page by an API call? - Is it possible to swap it by altering the registry and reboot? - Is it possible to swap it in platform builder?     - Need custom build action for PB 3.0 I am trying to automatically run a batch file after the "makeimg" step in the 3.0 version of PB. I have done this in PB 5.0 by using the custom build action tab in the platform settings but PB 3.0 does not have this feature. The project settings have this but not the platform settings. Want I ultimately want to happen is for my batch file to execute after a make image regardless of whether or not the make image was part of building the platform or just by going to the build menu and doing the make image by itself. I use the PB UI for building and not the command line version. Is there another way to do this? Maybe an undocumented batch file that will get executed if it exists?     - ObjectStore size change According to MSDN documentation of CE 6.0 there is a pointer in OEMGlobal that allow us to be called by the kernel to set the ObjectStore size (see: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa908688.aspx). In CE 5.0 we used OEMCalcFSPages exactly like the documentation tells us. Even if I set the pointer in OEMInit (now named pfnCalcFSPages in OEMGlobal, g_pOemGlobal->pfnCalcFSPages = OEMCalcFSPages), my function is never called. I also tried to use the old pointer which is not defined. If we look in the source code of the kernel to see what happens when it is supposed to call pOEMCalcFSPages, the pointer is always null (see KERNEL\loader.c in KernelfindMemory funtion). I also looked for this pointer anywhere else in WINCE600 code and it is never used. What do I have to do to be able to set the objectStore size in the OEMInit according to some boot settings of the bootloader like we did back in CE 5.0? Using a pointer, returned by CreateDibSection API, is significant slower then using a pointer returned by "new". Approximatly 20 times slower. Both pointers are pointing to heap memory. With our old WinCE4.2 platform (same hardware) the dibsection pointer is as fast as the "new" pointer (running the same test code). We have a PXA270 XScale CPU on our hardware and are running WinCE6.0. The BSP is a modified Mainstone III BSP. See our test code below.     - USB Function Controller Driver Hi All, I am having trouble getting started with developing a USB Function Controller driver for the AMD GeodeLX800 companion chip (the cs5536) I have looked at the net2280 driver and cant seem to figure out a good plan of attack. Both devices are PCI controllers but other then that there does not seem to be much compatibility. I keep going around in circles and just cant get a handle on what I need to do. I see in MSDN the list of functions I need to supply but for some reason the task seems daunting... First does anyone know of this driver being available anywhere ? ( I have asked AMD but they only have a Linux function driver ( I looked at that also but so far not much help) and second can anyone who has ported a function controller offer up some help on how to get started. The net2280 driver seems extreemly full functioned while the AMD device seems very limited (only 8 End points and no ISO transfers) is there perhaps another driver I can look at ? anyone have any code to offer up ? pointers, tips....     - Incorrect source files compiled in CE 6.0 build In a recent BSP, I had cause to use the 'stock' MIPS 'fixtick' timer library. After determining that the behavior was not as expected, we traced the bug to a problem in how files are selected for building. The PLATFORM/COMMON tree for MIPS timers is organized as follows: \PLATFORM\COMMON\SRC\MIPS\COMMON\TIMER ./dirs ./timer.c ... --FIXTICK ./sources ./timer.c ... --VARTICK ./sources The DIRS file names FIXTICK and VARTICK folders (and others) A file named 'timer.c' appears the root. The FIXTICK folder also contains a file named 'timer.c' which differs from the version in the parent folder. The SOURCES file in FIXTICK names 'timer.c'; the local version is intended, not the file of the same name in the parent. Examining BUILD.LOG on building FIXTICK... Will Build ...\timer\fixtick\timer.c because target: ...\timer.obj is missing. ... Compiling ..\timer.c cl -nologo ...\timer\fixtick\..\timer.c In short, it actually compiles the file in the PARENT folder (..\), not the version in the FIXTICK folder Changing the FIXTICK sourced file to explicitly indicate the version in the current folder (i.e.: SOURCES= .\timer.c ...) generates the same result; ..\timer.c is compiled. To paraphrase Mike Hall, "How *'ed up is that?" This is a general problem in the build, as far as I can tell, not restricted to the MIPS compilers. This pattern, where the parent folder contains a file of the same name as the child, probably does not occur frequently in the WinCE source code tree.     - Filesystem problems with RAM and Flash FS Hi all, there are two questions that bother me (regarding CE 4.2): 1. When doing a reset on our device, files written at run-time into the RAM FS are still there after reboot. Even when the power supply is shut off and on again the files are persistent, but corrupted now. Only a shut down for severeal seconds wipes the RAM FS. Is there a way to make CE start with a "clean" RAM FS? 2. It seems that even TFAT isn't very robust regarding power failures. After some of such events it starts to lose or currupt files.     - Timeout AC97 Audio Driver (UCB1400) Hi I have a Problem with my Audio Driver, i use a PXA 270 CPU and a UCB1400 Codec (AC97) The writeing from the CPU to the Codec is ok. But when i try to read any Reg from the codec, then i get a Timeout, but the strange thing is the UCB1400 is answering in the next Frame (i see it on the logic analyser) but on the CPU i cant "see" it.     - CE6: How to get SAMTSPI TSP sample to work? Hello, I am working on one special TSP (Telephony Service Provider) DLL. But as a reference, I first try on SAMPTSPI TSP sample, exist in \WINCE600\PUBLIC\COMMON\OAK\DRIVERS\SAMPTSPI. It surely can build but seems not working well in Windows Embedded 6 environment. The goal is to successfuilly connect dialup access point using standard CONNMC control panel applet and RNAAPP dialup connection worker process. Until now, I made following modification and make some UI configuration made. But still I could not successfully connect. 1. There's no .bib and .reg files exist. I made platform.bib and platform.reg entry like below (based on DeviceEmulator BSP, make passthrough modem connection from PC serial port) note: make TSP kernel mode driver is easier in CE6 samptspi.dll $(_FLATRELEASEDIR)\samptspi.dll NK SHK [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SER2410\SAMPTSPI] "Tsp"="samptspi.dll" "DeviceType"=dword:0 "FriendlyName"="SER2410 SAMPTSPI" "DevConfig"=hex: 10,00, 00,00, 05,00,00,00, 10,01,00,00, 00,4B, 00,00, 00,00, 08, 00, 00, 00,00,00,00 2. Then I delete dialog source code (sampcfg.c) from project and disabled TSPI_lineConfigDialogEdit function. 3. This could start dialing, but soon hangup while the MODEM itself results "CONNECT XXXXXX" string This is what I am working currently. I found one situation, the ASYNCMAC driver asking "ndis" class ID by using lineGetID, but SAMPTSPI does not support "ndis" class in TSPI_lineGetID. This should be one bug. The desktop Windows Help shows "ndis" TAPI device class should return Handle and its associated name. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms736590.aspx 4. Immediate after CONNECT, ASYNCMAC try to send PPP frame but the handle value used in WriteFile / ReadFile cause error INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE.     - Hive Setup - 4.2 Hi, I'm working on Windows CE 4.2. I want to setup Hive Based Registry. I'm using CEPC BSP. Firstly i set up RAM based registry, and its working fine. But the thing is that "Doc and Settings" folder and all doesnt show up as in 5.0. Then i added Hive registry setup, and when testing i found the "Doc and Sett: folder in explorer. I've worked before in 5.0 and 6.0, there we will specify which is to made as bootable and flag value as 1000. But here nothing is there in the registry. In platform.reg in CEPC only the registry entry for [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init\BootVars] is available and the device manager is started in Boot phase zero, but i can tell that in 5.0 and 6.0 we will start dev man and Stre man at boot phase one.
