    - Generating run-time image file for smartphone 2003 emulator Hi, I am using Windows CE 5.0 (eval) platform builder and generated a custom OS image file for emulator x86 BSP. And using this image file (Nk.bin) as an input to smartphone 2003 emulator. The skin appears but nothing appears on the screen, and no error appears!! Am I doing something, which is not permissible ? Is there anyway i can use this smartphone skin (supplied with smartphone 2003 SDK) to use the custom OS i generated with platform builder 5.0 ? Actually i want to test mpeg-4 streaming with the emulator, for which i have included codecs using PB. If the above is not possible, is there a way to achieve this ?     - How to port BSP from 4.2 to 5.0 ? Hi, Our platform uses Samsung 2410 CPU. We already have a .Net 4.2 BSP that is working on my platform. Now I try to build a .net 5.0 os image and run it on my platoform. However, I found it will be a big job if I must modify the codes of Samsung 5.0 BSP by extracting H/W-dependent codes from our 4.2 BSP . It is because the most directories and files names are different in .Net 5.0. In addition, bsp is centralized in .Net 4.2 , while BSP is distributed in .Net 5.0.     - PCI Driver ISR configuration. Hi to all, I've developed my own PCI driver for our own PCI board (Motor Controller), this board is plugged into an Advantech VIA Eden CEPC Board with our own WinCE 4.2 image. The image is standalone and boots with biosloader (with no KITL transport included, only TCP/IP transport and Manual Server). Now we are developing the application (with eVC++ 4.0 SP2) that uses the driver to manage the PCI board, we are debugging the app conecting with the target through TCP/IP transport and Manual Server (Using a telnet session to execute the command line). We have the following problem: sometimes, when I call the IOCTL that installs the ISR for my PCI driver, the TCP/IP conection is lost. Using PCIENUM utility I saw that the problem only happens when the IRQ allocated for my PCI board is the same as the one used by the ethernet board. So, my question is: Is the problen happening due to a wrong ISR instalation? So I've thought of another alternative like this: Since modifying the source will make the IME dll not to work (I can't even bring up the small keyboards after rebuilding it), what about writing a dll to supply the sendCharEvents and SendKey methods to simulate Word builing directly. The driver loads OK, all the exports are correctly called but after a minute or two a dialog with the message "Unidentified PCCard Adapter" appears.     - How to verify NK.BIN is deployable? I know I read somewhere that there was a tool or something that analyzed NK.BIN or the directory hierarcy to determine if my OS images was legit to distribute (aka, no mods to private, etc.).     - Activesync Remote Display send wrong ARM server (cerdisp2) to target (ARMV4 / ARMVi problem?) Hi, I am working on a CE 4.2 display based OS and a target with no screen. In order to see the screen output I use ActiveSync Remote Display from the Windows Mobiel Developer Power Toys. When starting ASRDisp.exe the app some how figures out which server to send to the target ( using dependency walker: CPU ARM or Thumb) and the sends the cerdisp2.exe to the target, starts the client on the host and they connect, result: the screen output on the development host. Nice. This scenario worked correctly when I build the OS for ARMV4I, the cerdisp2.exe Thumb binary was send to the target. When I build the OS for ARMV4, the cerdisp2.exe Thumb binary still gets send to the target in stead of the Standard cerdisp2.exe for ARMV4. What can be the cause of this?     - CETK problems Hi all, We have implemented a Display Driver for a ARM based board. We are trying to include the CETK Component in the Image and test our Display Driver. We have not yet integrated the Touch Screen Driver. We have Telnet component in the image through which we login into the device and invoke clientside from the telnet console. But when we invoke the clientside from the telnet console, we get an unknown IOCTL from the Kernel/Hal/OEMIoctl.c. We do not see the Target device listed in the Windows CE Test Server Window on the Host. We found that this IOCTL was IOCTL_HAL_WHQL_TEST_MODE. The Win CE Help suggests that this is an optional IOCTL and hence we have not implemented this IOCTL in OAL. I wanted to know the following: 1. What is the relation between this IOCTL and clientside ? 2. To execute CETK, do we need to add any support in the OAL ? We have VMINI Support in our OAL and we are using this itself for the debugger connection. We have set appropriate registry settings for VMINI. I found that there are some problems on usb drivers. Since I am not using USB now, I just want to delete this device type to overcome it temporarily.     - SMB Print from Windows 2000 server Dear Greats, I am having Windows CE 4.2, WBT client. I included SMB print service in my client ( LPT1, COM1, COM2 ports). It is working fine with Windows XP, 2003 machine. If i enumerate my client (\\IP address) for printer configuration from a windows 2000 machine. it says no such device in the network. so unable to view the client shared information (printer ports). Is their any other components to be included to make it work with 2000 server or is it a known issue. Inform me if their is any QFE to fix this problem.     - encountered exception in filesys.exe when reading/writing file in win ce 4.2 i have encountered an exception in filesys.exe whenever i am accessing a file. the os is win ce4.2 and the platform is au1500 (mipsII).The device i am having contains more than 32 MB of system RAM. i had gone thru the knowledge- based article Q285113. It seemed its an issue "If you try to gain access to a file that is stored across a 32-MB boundary on a Pocket PC that contains more than 32 MB of system RAM, an exception in Filesys.exe occurs" in Microsoft Windows Pocket PC with Windows CE 3.0 and Microsoft Windows CE Platform Builder 3.0. its been fixed at Microsoft Windows Pocket PC with Windows CE 3.0 and Microsoft Windows CE Platform Builder 3.0 and there's a list of platform there. however, the au1500 (mipsII) is not stated there. Does that mean in win ce4.2, this "fix" is already there OR its ok in win ce4.2 for all platforms? thus does anyone here had encountered this issue and if so...how can it be overcome. thank you...     - Using CardServices to access ports on Compact Flash socket I have a simple device that I've developed that has an 8 bit digital IO interface. I'd like to interface to this board using a PocketPC that has a compact flash slot. Since this is just a quick and dirty test project, I don't want to implement all the Compact Flash interface requirements on my custom device. I've written a driver that conforms to the Stream-Interface Device Driver Model and I can get it installed and running and make calls to it via CreateFile, Read/Write, etc. from a test application. I can get my custom card powered up by calling CardRequestConfiguration in the driver but now I am stuck. My goal now is to be able to read/write to the 16 I/O lines on the CF interface. I figure I need to call CardRequestWindow/CardMapWindow to get pointers to some memory I can use to access the ports but I don't know anything about the socket itself. I don't have a real compact flash card in the slot so I don't have a real concept of attribute and memory space. So how do I go about getting access to those pins on the Compact Flash bus? In the end my goal is to be able to call READ_PORT and WRITE_PORT and get access to those 16 pins. Would I use CardRequestWindow and CardMapWindow?     - DirectSound Warning Hi, I'd like to include Direct Sound in my image, on a device that has a regular MDD/PDD audio driver with no hardware Direct Sound support. When I do that, I get a Messagebox pop up in CE player that says something to the effect of "Warning: Audio hardware missing or disabled" It then continues on to play audio.     - Strange registry differences between Release and Debug Builds? I'm just getting started with Platform Builder and I'm running into a small problem. I added some register entries in the project.reg file. When I build the Debug version of the platform my register entries show up on the device. When I build for the Release version, my entries don't show up in the device's registry. FWIW, I'm using a RAM based registry. The SDK is provided by the vendor of the board we are using. On our CE based device we'd prefer to do all of the UI without any system prompts or dialogs and without autoformat/partitioning. We'd like to control this from within our application or a device driver via IOCTL calls. Is there a way to be notified when a newly inserted storage device needs to be partioned or formatted?     - PB fails to connect with Win XP SP2: Solution. Go ahead and save a Just a note in case it hasn't been previously posted: I spent most today trying to connect to an X86 target from Platform Builder. The device was getting an IP address from local DHCP and sending BootP's, OK. I could ping the target and see Not UDP errors on its serial debug output. But in PB couldn't see the device qwhen configuring the connection. Then realised/remembered that with XP SP2 ICF (Internet Connection Firewall) is at a machine level,, so .. - Open the Network Settings for the development machine NIC - Go to Properties - Advanced Tab - Turn off ICF (I turned off ICS as well).     - repllog and CE 5.0 Hi, I use repllog.exe on a CEPC test device. On my workstation, i use hyperterminal. Normally, repllog must send the "client" string to establish the communication.     - CEPC bootloader error CE 5.0 Hi, Since 2 days, I try to install an image on a CEPC platform. I include the ATAPI and FAT component and i build the release image. I copy the nk.bin file on the hard disk of my destination platform. I use mkdisk.bat to create the boot loader. I'am doing all steps describe in the tutorial "Configuring a Hard Disk Drive with the BIOS Boot Loader" But the image never start. When we launch clientside from the telnet console, we get an unknown IOCTL from Kernel/Hal/OEMIoctl.c. We do not see the target device listed on the Windows CE Test Kit Server Window on the Host PC. We came to know that this IOCTL is IOCTL_HAL_WHQL_TEST_MODE. The WinCE Help suggests that this is an optional IOCTL and hence we have not implemented this in our OAL. We wanted to know the following: 1. What is the relation of this IOCTL [IOCTL_HAL_WHQL_TEST_MODE] with CETK? 2. To execute CETK successfully, what support should be added to the OAL ? We have VMINI Support in our OAL and we are using this itself for the debugger connection. We do not have a NDIS Driver. We have made appropriate registry settings for VMINI as suggested in the Help. I tried build -c but it fails with some errors.
from which directory I can give a build?

Why did you add this to the ARM common code? You should put all Debug UART
cod into the OAL in this case either in Startup() or in OEMInit().
