    - enable Full Kernel Mode Hi, I'm a bit confused about the "enable Full Kernel Mode" Feature in PB. I read in MSDN that "The default mode in Windows CE .NET is to run every thread in kernel mode..." . Does this mean really by default every thread in every application is running in Kernel mode? I can't believe that! And then for what do I need the "enable Full Kernel Mode" Switch? I thought that Device drivers (and their threads) always run in UserMode except the corresponding ISR. Applications (and their threads) run in User Mode too. Isn't this true? What happens to my system when i turn on "Enable Full Kernel Mode"? Any ideas? Tag: KITL issues when booting a CEPC Tag: 56161

    - My problem in using RDP Hi I made an thin client platform for IXDP425 also I added sound driver for my device and it works fine. But when I connected with Microsoft RDP to windows 2003 server and play a music sound it return me an error: windows media player cannot play the file because there is a problem with you sound cardâ?¦.. My sound card of windows 2003 server are ok and it works properly. When I run â??sounds and audio devicesâ?? from control panel I see it uses Microsoft RDP Audio Driver as its audio driver and it is mute and when I unchecked mute check box and then applied it, it checked mute check box again. Also from Remote computer sound combo box in Local Resources tab I tested Bring to this computer and leave at remote computer .but none of them worked.     - How to make viewers display contents embedded in web page ? Dear all: As we all know, there exist lots of contents file like .doc, .pdf etc can embedded in web page. And windows ce.net provide viewer programs like docviewer, pdfviewer, xls, presviewer. But from the configuration, it seems these viewers can only view files on local storage disk.     - USB deadlock ? We have been trying to track down a 'hang' bug on our platform and have possibly narrowed it down to the UHCI driver. We have stress tests running simultaneously on 3 serial ports, 2 network ports, the IDE/compact flash interface and the USB driver. The only time the test fails is if we assign the USB host and interrupt (effectively 'enabling' the USB test, test does not start on USB if not running). By 'fail' I mean complete hang of board/OS, no ping, no mouse, etc. Naturally, when running the kernel debugger, the timing changes such that the stress tests never fail :( Is this a known issue ? Any one else have this problem ? Given other problems we have had with the USB driver (arbitrary reset timeouts and such in the driver that have to change based on using a hub or not) and the fact the stress tests running continuously w/out USB this is the current area of suspicion.     - Extended characters don't consistantly show On CE v4.10 ARM OS with USA locale, I'm seeing inconsistent output when I try to display characters 0x80 to 0x9F with the Wingdings font. I have written an application that works fine on W2K. On CE, my same application doesn't show all of the characters correctly (rectangles), but some in this range do show correctly (e.g. 0x81, 0x8D, 0x8F, and 0x90 are OK). I see the same thing when I created a web page to show this range of characters. Looks good in W2K, but not in CE's PIE. I then created a Word doc with this character range. Looks OK on W2K and also looks correct on CE Word Viewer. I do have the Wingdings font installed on the CE unit. What is Word viewer doing differently that makes it work correctly?     - EDB9315 serial Activesync Hi, all, I understand that many have asked questions regarding the serial activesync. Unfortunately, I still can not get the serial Activesync working for my Cirrus EDB9315. Hope you can help me here. My problem is that I can not select Direct Connection from Make New Connection. I have included the following feature in a Mobile Handheld platform: EP931x Serial Port, Serial Mouse Driver(Anchored for EP931x), ActiveSync with File Sync, Dial Up Networking with AutoDial, TAPI with Unimodem, Serial Port Support I think there are 2 problems here. 1) Serial Mouse Driver I heard that serial activesync requires full UART port, right? If that's the case, I have to remove Serial Mouse Driver. (UART1 is the only full UART port for EP9315.) However, Serial Mouse Driver is an anchored feature for EP931x. Everytime I delete it, it comes back up. I thought I can remove this option in mybsp.bat and I can't find a file like this in EP931x. I searched the string BSP_EP931X_SERMOUSE and I could only find ep931x.cec, the sources file, platform.bib and platform.reg. I tried to remove the Environment Variable of this driver. But it is restored everytime. How can I remove this feature? 2) Direct Connection I thought I should be able to select Make New Connectin -> Direct Connection even though UART1 is occupied. But this option is grayed out. Only Dial-Up Connection can be selected.     - Wordpad hangs machine when reading disk based text file Hello. I have been working on building an image for a NS Geode Advantech SBC (PCM-3350). I am presently able to use the Ethernet, Serial Ports, parallel port and the hard drive attached. When I try to load a text file into Wordpad, the platform hangs.     - IRSIR IrDA driver in windows CE 4.2 Hi, We have added IRSIR driver into our platform from platform builder 4.2. There are some registry entries has been added into the platform.reg. In that entries we have selected the internal IR and changed the port no. After that we build the platform , it creates both the irdastack and irsir dlls. when we were loading this platform, we were able to see that, irsir has been loaded. But when we run any of the IrSock programs, the communication is not happening with another IRDA device. Actually whenever we are making the irsock calls, irsir driver is getting the calls, but actual communication is not happening. In my platform.reg, we are able to see the following registry entries, IF BSP_NOSIR !     - AVI Playback in 4.2 Alright, I've searched the archives and come up with nothing (well one thread, but it didn't have a solution). I have an AVI that plays fine on CE 4.1, though I didn't create that 4.1 image. I'm now trying to create a 4.2 build that will play the file on the exact same piece of hardware, but I keep getting a failure saying it doesn't have a codec for it. I created a platform from the "custom device" start and included eveything under the Basic Multimedia and Multimedia sections. I've double checked that everything in the Catalog that has anything to do with media, sound or DirectX is included. I've conpared the winceconfig.h and ce.bib files of the two platforms, and I really don't see anything media related that is different between the two platforms. The new platform will play MPG and WMV files just fine. So after all that, here's the question: What could be the cause of this?     - Debugging Bootloader From Emulator I'm debugging a bootloader for a PXA255 based system and have run into a problem getting the PDB files for the bootloader to be downloaded. Apparently PB when it connects to a EXDI based emulator sends the name and path of a PDB file for the Win CE image for that particular platform. When I connect to the emulator I see in the PB debugger that the NK.EXE module (i.e. the whole Win CE image) is loaded along with the associated PDB file. Is there any way to change this name to point to my bootloader instead of the _FLATRELEASEDIR ? Since the bootloader has to be named NK.EXE also for ROMIMAGE to relocate it (otherwise "pTOC" is not fixedup properly) I can't just change the SOURCES file for the bootloader to point to the flat release directory. I tried to delete the NK stuff from the release directory and copy in the bootloader ones and for some reason PB can not connect to the emulator. Thanks for the help!     - File remove problem Hi, I've gotten the filesystem under my install of the CE 5.0 evaluation version messed up pretty seriously and need a pointer on what to do about it. The install is on an NTFS volume, which is not the boot volume, if that helps. The OS is Windows XP SP1. The problem shows up where there is a file, 1251.txt, say, in \Wince500\PBWorkspaces\PGTWorkspace\RelDir\Emulator_x86_Debug. I cannot delete this file. Windows XP says that access is denied, etc., the file is in use and that I should make sure it's not read-only and that no one is using it. There's nothing running that would be using it. The file properties do not show Read Only being set. The same problem appears to be the case for *every* file in the \Wince500 directory. I can't create new folders under that folder, or delete files that are already present. Other parts of the volume seem fine (I can create and delete files in other directories, except \WinCE500). I have run chkdsk on this volume. Note that it won't run from the graphical UI, as it says that there are system files that can't be accessed except during startup because they are in use. In any case, when it runs no errors are shown, but the files are still inaccessible when XP boots after chkdsk. I did a few things on Friday that I suppose might have left things in a bad state, if there is a bug or very odd behavior in the OS, but I don't know what to do about it. I shared the WinCE500 folder within our workgroup (read-only). I then moved one of the PB projects in the workspace mentioned above from the workspace directory to the OTHERS folder. I also copied that folder to a remote system, too. Later, I copied another of the projects in the workspace to the same remote computer. I have no persistent network connections to this WinCE500 share, however and don't seem to have anything on the remote machine which might be a copy of a hard link or a copy of a file to which PB might have built a hard link during OS build.     - file system filter for RAM file system - CE 4.1 ? Hello experts, we came across a customer, who absolutely wishes to to see no files or folders under Windows CE 4.1, when he/she/they use a Open... command in Internet Explorer, or another similar application. We had put MountFlags=1 for the solid state disk properties in platform registry to make that partition hidden, so local persistent storage is not showing up. However, the RAM file system is still there (and customer not happy). It is my understanding that neither MountFlags action nor File System Filter would work on RAM file system.     - Ceplayer (media player) + WAV files I have a strange problem, my ceplayer on the CE 4.2 platform plays mp3 files, but no WAV files. A messagebox is displayed when I double-click a WAV file: Cannot open '\test.wav'. Please verify that the path and filename are correct and try again (0x80004001) The wav files are in the same dir as the mp3 files and have the same access rights. This is strange, certainly because I can play WAV files under the control panel via the 'Volume & Sounds' applet, and under eVC using the PlaySound API. Maybe I have a broken registry key? Maybe I have forgotten to set a SYSGEN_ (most unlikely, but here are the ones I do have set: SYSGEN_AUDIO=1 SYSGEN_CEPLAYER=1 SYSGEN_LOCAL_AUDIO=1 SYSGEN_STREAM_AUDIO=1 ) PS No Directx sysgens are included in my image, but that is also not necessary to play WAV files in CePlayer, I presume.     - Problems with serial downloader for ARM926 CPU Hi all, Environment: WinCE V4.2 evaluation version....!! , DM320 (ARM926 Core) 105 MHz custom target I have ported the SBOOT code from CEPC source to the ARM4I target. Our target has two serial ports(UART 0 and UART 1), so I am using one as a debug output(UART 1) and the other for the connection to the Platform Builder PC.(UART 0) When I attempt a download, the PC and the target, the PB waits for a BOOT ME packet infinitely. also, there is not much documentation is there in Documentation also, about the implementation. also about the Trivial File Transfer Protocol which is there needed, from the client side, but all the calls inside, it makes to the eboot functions.., but I don't have an Ethernet port... so I have two questions, 1.how do I implement the TFTP for a serial port? the sending of boot me packet to the PB. The configuration for my serial Target connection.. PORT: COM1 Baud Rate : 115200 Flow Control : None Data Bits : 8 Parity : None Stop Bits : 1 any more suggestions? do I need to install the QFE for the same?     - mount extern filesystem hi all: am trying to mounting an external file system as root in these two days, but failed. the process is below: i used the SMDK2410 bsp, and have a NAND and usb host on my device. 1. i try mount NAND as external file system, so i add this flag in [HKEY_.....\Profiles\FlashDrv] and [HKEY_.....\Profiles\FlashDrv\FATFS] "MountFlags"=dword:4, it failed. the same as the value C, or E , "MountFlags"=dword:C, "MountFlags"=dword:E . it is just mount usually, just in the /root and is the /NAND flash. 2. then want to mount the usb flash disk, so add flag in [HKEY_.....\Profiles\USBHDProfile ] and [HKEY_.....\Profiles\USBHDProfile\FATFS] "MountFlags"=dword:4, it failed. the same as the value C, or E , "MountFlags"=dword:C, "MountFlags"=dword:E . it as no change to the usb disk. ce act as usually, "\windows" in the root and "\harddisk" also in the root, though there is files in the usb. can any body tell me if it is the right change?     - How to share a mutex/event between OAL and driver? Hello all, I'd like to implement OEMWriteDebugString so that it writes to a memory buffer. Then a driver to read from the same buffer and write to a file on disk. I don't have any serial port to output to and store the debug messages, that's why I want this solution. How can I implement this? As I understand I would need to synchronize access to the buffer, and I guess a mutex would do. I know how to use a mutex between two processes in user mode, but how can I do this from OAL? Can I simply use CreateMutex from OAL? I guess I also need to signal an event from OEMWriteDebugString to tell the driver that there is data available in the buffer. How can I share a named event between OAL and a driver? Can I simply use CreateEvent from OAL? As an alternative I could maybe read data from OEMIoControl. Is access to OEMIoControl synchronized in any way, or do I need to synchronize (if needed)? What common elements are being refered to here? We have a hardware which directly takes data from video source and encodes it in hardware. Before capturing the data from the source, the source(for ex: camera) needs to be configured. This configuration needs to be exposed by the source filter to the application.     - PRB : Problem with Provisioning.xml file and IP Phone Hi all, I have already been on this problem for almost like a week. The steps what ever posted in the CE document does not seem to work for IP Phone .The problem is even though the Application can read the data from Provisioning.xml file, the parser cannot get the data back into variables. 1. I have validated my Provisioning.xml file properly through some other software. 2. If I try to pass some unicode encoded file , although it looks at the size correctly , when it reads the file , the contents are nothing. I don't know what's wrong there. 3. I have tried to debug the code using the source code available. My findings stop at ' CVoIPManualDCCore::get_SipServerParameters()' function always. Where it fails to get sip_uri, sip_server & transport type. 4. Initially I thought the problem could be due to conversion of data from ASCII to unicode based on the data I could see in Quick watch. Later when I checked memory locations I found the complete string and assuming that watch has not showed the full data , Is that correct ?     - SHIP_BUILD is slowing down the ethernet Hello I set "Enable Ship Build" in the platform settings of the release version. The problem is now, that SHIP_BUILD is slowing down my LAN connection. To copy a file of 2.4MB to a network drive, the ship build version takes 30 sec. Without ship build it only takes 8 sec. Does anybody know why the ship build version is so slow? My system is PB4.2, SH3, SMSC LAN91C96. And BTW my goal is to get it down to 4 sec, this is the time CE3.0 took on the same system.     - Exception in CEPLAYER when playing WMV file I'm trying to use ceplayer to show a WMV file on my device. The WMV file is stored on a USB memory stick. After selcting the file the video plays for a few seconds.     - SD Memory : CMD12 fail after double tape "Storage Card" HI, I am working on SD memory and SDIO driver in WinCE 5.0. I am taking the sample code from MAINSTONE platform and INTEL PXA27x CSP and start modifying from there. Currently, I am still in SD memory part and having the following problem. When I insert an SD card, I managed to get the "Storage Card" folder in My device and "DSK1:SD Memory" in control panel->storage manager. However, when I double tap the folder, the bus driver was requesting CMD17 (single block) 3 times followed by CMD12, then I got response time out. I can see files inside my card, but I can't copy the files out of my card. I want to bypass this CMD12, how can I do that ?     - Serial Driver mod Hello, Im trying to modify the serial driver that comes with Platform Builder 4.2 so that an app i wrote in C# can detect ALL parity errors (it can't detect all without modification because data is coming in so fast, the app misses parity events raised by the driver). The main files that i'm looking at are ser16550.c and mdd.c. In ser16550.c, i modified the Receive Char Interrupt handler - SL_RxIntr, such that if a parity error was detected it would add a 6-byte signature in front of the associated byte. The signature i used was 0xF0-0x02-0x07-0xE4-0x19-0xF5 which was a randomly created by me. My C# app which will run on my x86 device basically searches for this signature and if it finds one, it knows that the byte following the signature had a parity error. This kinda worked, but occasionally, the data gets corrupted by the driver. I dont know exactly how the driver corrupts it but i have a sinking feeling it has something to do with my mod. At times i notice that a portion of the signature replaces bytes in the stream thus corrupting it. Since i am adding an extra 6 bytes into the stream everytime the driver detects a parity error, the underlying buffer that the driver uses to write incoming bytes needs to be dynamically adjusted to account for this. I just dont know how to do it. To explain, this is normally what happens when the driver has available bytes to be read: - it calls the SL_RxIntr to handle the received bytes, specifying the amount of room it has left in its write buffer using the variable RoomLeft. - SL_RxIntr loops RoomLeft times with each loop reading a byte from the receive register. SL_RxIntr(RoomLeft){ while(RoomLeft){ ReadLSR(); if(data available) read the register; else break; write the byte to writeBuffer; RoomLeft--; } } This is just a short version of it. Hi I've just started to do some work on WinCE.NET using ethernet downloading
and debugging on a CEPC.
When I boot the CEPC i use the Serial line to enter a static IP address.

The problem comes part way into the boot. The image downloads fine, but then
debugging output just stops comming to Platform builder. When i checked the
output on the serial line there are a whole load of messages about KITLSend
Timed out waiting for Ack.

Any ideas?
What should be the correct platform settings for PB4.2 and network setup etc.
Am I missing something?

Have you set the correct sysintr value for the ethernet KITL adapter?
What's the output from debug serial before the time out message appear?
