Hi,

I dont know where else to ask this so I hope someone can help.

I need arabic script on CE. For test purposes I have loaded a font file
from my development PC and all is fine. However since the fonts that are
supplied with the SDK / Platform Builder do not include arabic script I am
wondering if there would be a Licensing issue with using the equivalent font
file taken from a Windows XP installation - or maybe the reason there is no
arabic on CE is simply to save space - not a lisencing issue?

I cannot track down any info on this so if anyone has any knowledge of the
issues here I would value your input.

Rgds
Dylan.

Well, yes there would be an issue of copying the font from XP. You need to
talk to MS to license their fonts for use on something other than the
platform it comes with.

apparently not - as long as the font comes from microsoft

You claim that based on what, exactly. Just because it comes from MS
doesn't mean you can take it and use it anywhere you want to, unless you
have a licensing agreement from MS that specifically allows you to.

I took your advice and phoned the MS licensing dept, they said (on the phone)
that this was not an issue - to be honest im wondering if the guy I was
talking to really had a grasp of what I was talking about but he assured me
there was no problem.

Really what it comes down to is wether the lisence applies to the font or
the file. since "Courier New" in PB does not have arabic glyphs but "Courier
New" the font does include arabic.

Well, I for one an amazed by that, but you could be right about it being the
same font, just an extension of it.
