 - Problem with IMGFLASH option of platform Dear All: The symptom I observed is that the performance of FTP server upload/download. The platform builder version is 4.2. And the processor is Intel DBPXA255(ARM).  - SAPI problem in CE.NET 4.2 Hi, I have successfully built and run CE.NET 4.2 image with SAPI components on a XScale PXA255 platform. When I compiled (MS eVC 4.0) and ran the SPEAKexample provided in platform builder speeck SDK samples directory, the following TTS call returned error: wcscpy( wcBuff, L"This is a simple sample sentence." ); hr = cpVoice->Speak(wcBuff, 0, NULL); hr is returned as a negative integer. I checked the processes on the CE.NET 4.2 device and saw the following processes were running: sapisvr.exe sapi.dll I already have struggled on this for weeks. If anyone can help me to get TTS and SR working on my CE.NET 4.2 device, I am more than happy to pay your time and effort. I can be reached at swang@predictsys.com.  - map a network drive. I don't have a thin client handy. And I didn't see the answer here during a search, so hopefully someone can help. The plan is to take a thin client Windows CE device and use it's built-in IE for browsing the web. No ICA, no RDP. I assume we could replace the Shell fairly easily, I'd like a pointer to some resources for this type of thing. Mainly because I need to map a network drive letter to a NAS device where data is going to be stored and displayed through IE. thanks in advance for your input!  - Help: Stream Device Driver Hello, I am building a stream device driver composed by a DLL and an EXE with eVC4.0 and I am using CEPB 4.2 x86 architecture. I'm following this example http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnembedded/html/spotwincerambl.asp Unfortunately this article is good but incomplete and not enough exhaustive and MS provide no valid starting point, so I'm trying to resume all the test I've done hoping some expert could help me to define the last steps to make this driver working.  - Time bug Hello, is there a Bug in MS code regarding time? I sometimes am occurring the following: I am using SetSystemTime() to set the UTC time on my board via SNTP. When I ask my time back, with GetSystemTime(), it is indeed the time I programmed. However, the time displayed on the clock-display int the tray, sometimes (not yet found any structure in the problem) displays wrong time. As I reside in Belgium, and due to the fact it's summer, we are two hours off the UTC. Sometimes the clock displays only one hour offset. Therefore my board is one hour too late when I do a single SetSystemTime. I suppose the clock-display in the tray uses GetLocalTime()? And I've heard of a timebug in Win workstation OS's? Could it be that also CE .NET has this bug? I already found a solution for this, namely setting the time three times with SetSystemTime(), but I want this confirmed as a bug, to be sure I found a known problem, and a solution to it.  - How to activate touch driver at runtime Dear all, I have a problem about dynamically activating touch driver. I know there is one API called ActivateDevice(....) which could activate drivers at runtime. But it seems only working on the drivers which devices.exe drives. Now, the touch driver is drived by GWES.exe. Its registry values were located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH. Is there any way to load/activate touch driver at runtime ? I got some situation needs to activate touch driver after GWES loads. Hope someone could help me to solve this. Any comment is welcome. Thanks in advance. No matter which website I'm able to access, the webpage reaches the top of the screen, i.e., I have no menu or tool bars. Is there a solution short of reconfiguration?  - Listen socket problem I am using x86 CEPC CE 4.2 platform. This platform has a modem. I dial a RAS entry and connect to the Internet. I create a server socket through calls to socket()...bind()...listen() and I am able to receive connections on the socket to the IP that the modem receives. The problem occurs when I add a LAN support to my platform. When I have LAN support, I automatically receive an IP from the DHCP server. Now, my device has two IP: one from the LAN and one from the modem I used to dial to the Internet. But when I am connected to the LAN, I am no longer able to receive connection on the server sockets() using the IP that the modem receives. Is this the expected behaviour?  - Speeding up bootloader from USB memory stick Hi. Using a VIA EPIA board (with BIOS support for USB booting) I have managed to boot CE .NET 4.2 from a USB memory stick. I basically only made the USB memory stick bootable and then copied everything from the normal bootdisk to it (AutoExec.bat, LoadCePC.exe Nk.bin Eboot.bin etc). This works functionally OK both with Ethernet booting and local booting. However, the local booting is incredibly slow. Compared to using a local IDE disk, I would say it is a factor 100 slower. Is there a simply way to speed this up? When looking at LoadCePC.exe I see that it reads Nk.bin in small chunks and handle them separately. Perhaps a better strategy here would be to read the entire image at once into RAM and the handle each chunk seprately from there. If so, how do I make sure I put the initial image in an unused area of RAM? Where is Nk.bin finally put? And how do I build LoadCePc. It seems like I need some old Vc compiler? I only have VC4-VC6.  - System hangs on HDD read/writes Problem - WriteFile/ReadFile functions hangs up with buffers more then ~1K (~1000 bytes) when working with HDD. Platform is Geode. When I encounter this problem, other WinCE programs, like Media Player also completely hangs up the system when reading audio files - HDD LED stays lightening continiously... system is dead. With CF-HDD all goes fine. But ordinal 40Gb HDD sometime work normal, sometime hangs up. For example: char* buffer = new char[1000]; WriteFile(f, buffer, 700, &Written, 0); - ALL GOES FINE WriteFile(f, buffer, 1000, &Written, 0); - Hang up in this call I thought, it can be stack problems, but i use dynamic memeory (new or VirtualAlloc - the same result) Please help - ANY ideas?!? I checked 3 HDD's and 3 different Geode PC's, many OS configurations - helps not. But is seems, that small disks under FAT16 always fork fine, but FAT32 SOMETIMES works too! Unpredictable error.  - PCMCIA-PCI Adapter for CEPC Problem: Need to get suitable hw for PCMCIA-PCI adapter Problem: There are only 2 chipsets supported in PB 4.2 (More in PB 5 The intel driver is for PCMCIA-ISA bus, not PCI The other driver is for TI-1250 chipse (I have posted previously on this in this ng.. - I purchased a board with the Ricoh R5C475II Chipset which is Intel 82 regsiter compatible. But is a PCI bridge not ISA. The Intel driver in PB 4.2 doesn't work because of this. Q Has anyone developed a driver for that chipset under PB 4.2 - I am looking at the ActionTec PC750 PC Card http://www.actiontec.com/products/readers/pc750/pc750_overview.htm This is listed in the CE.NET Help as being suitable hw for a CEPC(Search on "Choosing Miscellaneous CEPC Hardware" If I was to use this , would I use the driver for TI-1250 (The actiontec device has the TI-1225 chipset - The Envoy Data PC Card Host Controller SBP-D2 is also listed as suitable hw but can't find that on the net???  - Problems with VariantChangeType I have posted several problems which are all related to OLEAUT creating a window and a thread. I have come to the following conclusion. My situation: I have a simple application that performs a VariantChangeType to change a floating point string into a floating point value. Upon invokation of VariantChangeType it appears OLEAUT DLL launches a thread and this thread creates a window. Afterwards my application terminates, by design. During the process unload I get an ACC-VIO. This ACC-VIO is due to the fact that the thread created by the VariantChangeType does not terminate before process unload. I have tried calling CoInit and CoUninit without any success. My research: After figure my problem was with VariantChangeType, I did some searching and found this MSDN article " PRB: Oleaut32 Hidden Window Blocks Apps Broadcasting Messages " This article explained everything I have been seeing for some time. I am assuming MS solution to this problem was to launch a thread which is the one I am seeing. Conclusion: On PC based Windows OSs the MS solution will work (i.e., launching a thread upon VariantChangeType invokation). However, for CE the solution will not work. The reason is because of the following -) PC based platforms (XP, 2K) All threads are terminated before a process unloads -) CE platforms a process can unload without all threads being terminated. I have proof of this in other poorly written applications. Solution: Currently, I rewrote VariantChangeType and I never get an ACC-VIO. Questions: -) Are my conclusions in correct or is there something my app is doing incorrectly? -) Is there a patch? -) If I am correct and MS has not fixed it, how do I let them know about it so it may be fixed for others?  - Power key implementation question I'm trying to implement a Power key. I know its' virtual key has to be VK_OFF, but I'm not sure what else has to be in place for it to work. What happens now is that it does power off, but does not power on. I have KernelIoControl call with IOCTL_HAL_ENABLE_WAKE in my ISR thread and I thought that is all I need to be able to wake the system up from suspend.  - ExtEscape and GDI I'm trying to roatate the screen with the following code, however the return value is always 0 which indicates that screen rotation is not supported. However I installed a program that rotates the screen no problem. So the question is: How can I do it? Sample code would be the most appreciated.  - StrongARM CPU with 64MB RAM (post again) Hi All, I got a very odd problem on my StrongARM CPU based WinCE 4.1 system. Originally the platform has 32MB RAM and the physical starting address of the RAM is 0xC000000 and it works fine. Later we changed the RAM chip to 64MB one, I have modified the config.bib and OEMAddressTable to reflect the changes, but the image that I build can't startup! For the 32MB RAM , the physical address region is : 0xC0000000~0xC1FFFFFF; For the 64MB RAM, the physical address region is : 0xC0000000~0xC3FFFFFF; In the OEMAddressTable, I do mapped whole 64MB RAM, and in config.bib I changed RAM setting from: RAM 8C140000 01EC0000 RAM To: RAM 8C140000 03EC0000 RAM But it just not works. I can't imagine why that happened. I can guarantee in the OEMAddressTable, there's no overlapping after I do the 64MB RAM mapping. And the hardware also don't have a problem. Because if I only modified OEMAddressTable and not made any change to config.bib , the image will still running, just we can only see 32MB RAM available. And if at this time we are using following code to map additional 32MB RAM to a virtual address, we can do read/write with the additional 32MB RAM without a problem. void* pRAMBase = (void*)VirtualAlloc(0, 0x01000000, MEM_RESERVE, PAGE_NOACCESS); VirtualCopy((PVOID)pRAMBase , (LPVOID)(0xC2000000>>8), 0x01000000,PAGE_READWRITE|PAGE_NOCACHE|PAGE_PHYSICAL) BTW.  - Auto detection of RAM Hi everybody, if you built a standard CE image, the RAM size will set to 28MB RAM and in config.bib (later ce.bib) you'll read the following entry: ; 28 MB of RAM (default) (note: AUTOSIZE will adjust boundary) ; This value will cause the RAM auto-detect feature to trigger After some searching around i only found http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wcedsn40/html/cgconconfiguringsystemmemory.asp Here you get some information about the general settings of the RAM size, but no info about the auto-detect feature. All they talk about is: You should create RAM entries for the largest possible amount of RAM that would be present on the device. This help avoid the need to change the OEM adaptation layer (OAL) if you add more memory. (Statement from link above) So could anyone tell my how the auto-detection will work and what settings are right if i have multiple devices with 16, 32, 64 and 128 MB of RAM and i only want to use one CE image on all devices?  - Data Abort during access to internal registers Hello, I'm trying to modify BSP for Motorola DragonBall MXL so it can run in USER mode (now it can run only in Kernel mode). After system boot-up the DHCP try to get IP address failure, this time try to plug-in LAN cable. The LAN driver can't get DHCP properly no matter the system default set to DHCP enable.  - question about using SD card as storage for hive-based registry! Hi. I follow the PB help and succeed to use the SD card as storage for hive-based registry. However, it seems that I can not remove the SD card any more. Once the sdcard is unmounted , the OS seems to regard that it is permanently removed . Even I can use the SD card as normal storage after inserting it, the system.hv and user.hv on sD card are never updated (even I try RegFlushKey,RegSaveKey). So, how to handle it ?  - Requesting info about BootPart! Hi Sachin, I need some help urgently! Please help me resolve the following issues. 1. I am using BootPart to create to partitions on my NAND flash, one is a Binfs part and the other is the Fat Part. But I am a bit confused with the registry settings for this. The current situation is that CE detects my Binfs part and shows the folder "Resident Flash". But it fails to mount the Fat partition although it detects it. 2. When I create the Fat partition using BootPart (BP_OpenPartition) I see that this partition does not contain the BPB. So, now I manually right a BPB at this location of the flash. But the FSD driver gives me the usual error of "invalid BPB?..". I fixed this issue by modifying the BPB. But, now I get the message "No Cache setup??.". After this nothing happens on the system and I get a lot of Data Aborts. Basically, I want to use the remaining flash as a Fat system for storing user data.  - System hangs up on Hard Disk read/writes Hi! I posted it some months ago - now repost it Problem - WriteFile/ReadFile functions hangs up with buffers more then ~1K (~1000 bytes) when working with HDD. Platform is Geode. When I encounter this problem, other WinCE programs, like Media Player also completely hangs up the system when reading audio files - HDD LED stays lightening continiously... system is dead With CF-HDD all goes fine. But ordinal 40Gb HDD sometime work normal, sometime hangs up. For example char* buffer = new char[1000] WriteFile(f, buffer, 700, &Written, 0); - ALL GOES FIN WriteFile(f, buffer, 1000, &Written, 0); - Hang up in this cal I thought, it can be stack problems, but i use dynamic memeory (new or VirtualAlloc - the same result Please help - ANY ideas?!? I checked 3 HDD's and 3 different Geode PC's, many OS configurations - helps not. But is seems, that small disks under FAT16 always fork fine, but FAT32 SOMETIMES works too!  - Help me to Bulid the kernel I have done these changes and builded the image: 1)Removed the Cerdisp folder(containing dummy display source code)from the WINCE420/PLATFORM/DRIVERS/DISPLAY DIR and copied our source code folder in this place and also removed the driver from the BSP listing for display and removed the display icon. 2)Removed the setting and entries regarding dummy display and video.dll from bib and reg files. 3)After adding the our project file ,i have made changes in bib and reg files,which are as under:- In COMMON.BIB FILE,i have added IF DISP_DISPLAY DISP.dll $(_FLATRELEASEDIR)\DISP.dll NK S ENDIF In COMMON.REG FILE,i have added IF BSP_CERDISP [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\Drivers] "Display"="DISP.dll" ENDIF In PLATFORM.BIB , IF BSP_NODISPLAY !  - PlatformBuilder 4.2 - ARM emulator out-of-memory download error I'm using the Intel DBPX250 emulator that ships with PN 4.2. I build it (for either mobil device or phone) and create a Hello-world sample app using the wizard. When I go to download the image I get an error like "emulator device does not have enough memory for boot image", even after I increase the platform memory size to a max of 256M and strip out most features from the OS configuation. which we have built for MIPS platform.

Platform Builder 4.2 help talks about two applications
wceload.exe and unload.exe that will be available with
this feature.

On building the OS image all I am getting are wceload.lib
and unload.lib file. What should I do to get these
executables?

Any help would be appericiated.

I think this apps require a display based image.

If image size is not critical, you can use a display based image on your
headless device using the NULL display driver.

Thanks. But MS documentation says it is available for=20
headless devices as well.
