    - How to set debugging with KITL over RNDIS Hi I'm newbie and start to make custom CE build with simple application. My configuration is Advantech PCM-3350 CEPC. I've successfully set working environment with debuggin over serial port but it's soo slow. Unfortanately onboard LAN is incompatible with KITL (Intel 82559ER chip). I have read in help and conf about RNDIS but still mising some information how to set and what is required for this type KITL connection. How to connect two PC with USB ?     - .cab and .exe CE Application Installer PB 4.1 - workaround if no ActieSync ? Dear experts, this question relates to Platform Builder for CE 4.1. We routinely build Thin Client platform. Some printer drivers are included with PB, and some are bought by us as the pieces good enough for use with PB ( like .reg and .dll). However, some other printer drivers for CE are made available by manufacturer as .exe installer. This .exe installer must run on PC and through ActiveSync then install those drivers onto CE device. Our platform does not include ActiveSync feature, nor there is an intent to include, since no serial port is supported ( or on purpose is made unavailable to customer). And even if it would, such install won't persist between power cycles of the device. Is there any way to convert the given .exe installer for CE through ActiveSync into a set of pieces, suitable for use with PlatformBuilder ( e.g. .dll, .reg, etc.) ? Or, if we can't use ActiveSync and only have third party drivers as .exe setup, there is no way to include it in the nk.bin ?     - eshell.exe Hi I have got Microsoft Windows CE Debug Shell Version 2.00 and build 0102 in my hand for downloading an image file into a set-top box. The problem is that I have difficulties connecting eshell with the target set-top box. Loading eboot.sre from TFTP server to the set-top box via serial port works (the box gets IP), but after it has finished it drops the address and I cannot connect to the box. There is a possibility to set a static IP for the box, but when pinging the box after setting the static IP in place, I get request time out. I have tried several device names in eshell from IPs to MACs and also the actual box's device name - I assume the device name asked for is supposed to be an IP address?     - Help! Problem when writing block data to SD Card. I am testing the MMC Controller using Sandisk Sdcard.My platform is Pxa263. Currently,I can initialize the SDcard and get all parameters from the card. The probelm occurs when I try to write a single block of 512 bytes to the card using CMD24.I have set the block length to 512 bytes.After I fill the Txfifo with 32 bytes some times,the Sdcard seems not starting to transmit the data since I check the MMC_STAT register and can not get XMIT_FIFO_EMPTY(the value of MMC_STAT is 0x2100),and later ,the MMC_STAT register will return READ_TIME_OUT(the value of MMC_STAT is 0x2101). I am wondering how READ_TIME_OUT came to? However,If I initialized the card twice ,I can write a single block 512 bytes but can only read 480 byte when I send READ_SINGLE_BLOCK(CMD17) to the card.The card return DATA_TRAN_DONE(the value of MMC_STAT is 0x29c0 ).What's wrong? I do the following steps: 1) Open a development platform in platform builder 2) Go to the sources of SMCLIB located in public\common\OAK\drivers\smartcard 3) Open the "open release build directory" command prompt in platform builder 4) Compile the sources of SMCLIB and the smclib.lib is created 5) Open another project in eVC++ which will include smclib.lib and use its functions 6) Build the project 7) The linking error appears I use dumpbin.exe to look into the smclib.lib and find that no functions are exported. However, if I do it as following, there is no linking error even using the same smclib.lib 5) Go to the sources of my project which will include smclib.lib and use its functions 6) Open the "open release build directory" command prompt in platform builder 7) Build my project and my project is successfully built without linking error The difference is using IDE to build and using command prompt to build.     - BUG: Buildrel does not implement -f optional paramater correctly The buildrel process does not implement the -f parameter correctly if you specify -f buildrel still copies binaries. Upon close examination it is due to a bug in bldrel1.bat line 72 currently reads: if "%__BLDRELNOBIN"=="1" goto endif_400 it should be: if "%__BLDRELNOBIN%"=="1" goto endif_400 NOTE: the trailing "%" is missing on the %__BLDRELNOBIN% expansion thus making the comparison always false. With the above corrections using buildrel -f -u will make simple updates MUCH faster!     - IRDA on x86 laptop with CEPC, OPL-SAX driver, ISA ATAPI driver Hi, sorry to ask these question, but I am very new to this. I am trying to get IRDA working on a Toshiba laptop. The laptop has two serial ports: COM1 and COM2, where COM2 is used as the infrared port. I´ve read through the articles and found out, that CE uses the hardware COM1 port as the debug port (if not changed in the kernel), therefore I changed COM1 to 2F8h/IRQ3 and the infrared port to 3E8h/IRQ4. I also changed the platform.reg the following way: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Irsir1\Parms] "BusNumber"=dword:0 "BusType"=dword:0 ; default setting ; "Port"=dword:1 "Port"=dword:2 I included two serial port drivers and ActiveSync in my project. The problem: I am not able to choose IrDA in "PC Connection" in the control panel, so I am not able to establish a connection via IrDA. I´ve searched MSDN and the newsgroup here as well but I am not able to find information what to do step by step to implement IrDA. The laptop I am using has no PCI bus, so the standard ATAPI drivers are not working, because they are for PCI only.     - Serial Port Driver Optimizations Sorry about the previous partial message. I am working on a project that uses proprietary X86 hardware, 6 serial ports, PCMCIA, USB and a host of other hardware. We are using CE 4.0 with evc++ 4.0, ATL, MFC and COM for an application that includes numerous *.exes and even more *.dlls. Processor loading for the app is generally low (~35%) but can go to 100% for seconds in response to external inputs. Occasionally, there is a RX FIFO overflow on one of the serial comm ports - this port has a 64 byte FIFO, is running at 38.4 Kbaud and ~20% of its bandwidth is being used. One of my embedded RTOS colleagues has suggested that the problem lies in the serial port driver and believes that the problem can be eliminated by optimizing the serial port driver for execution speed. Part of this optimization may include moving a portion of the driver to the ISR.     - Changing Domain Suffix On a PPC2003 device: I'm trying to experiment with changing the domain suffix of a miniport interface after it has already obtained a DHCP lease with a domain suffix. I noticed that changing the following registry value works. HKLM\Comm\<adapter>\Parms\TCPIP\Domain Unfortunately, this only works for a while. After some random amount of time, some process changes the registry value back to the domain suffix obtained from the DHCP lease. The amount of time seems random, and there are no other user processes running as seen in Control_Panel>Memory>Running_Programs. Does anyone know why that is? Is there another way to do this?     - where is filesys.exe source in wince4.0? Hello, I am getting exceptions in filesys.exe. Per a suggestion from an earlier post, I would like to try to look at the .map file and .cod files along with the exception address to find out where the trouble is occurring. But I can't find the source code for filesys.exe anywhere. I see the built module, but can't find the source. I expected to find a sources file with TARGETNAME=filesys somewhere in my directory tree, but no luck.     - CE 3.0 Activesync 3.1 connects but 3.5 does not I have several CE 3.0 platforms (MIPS, sh3, and x86) that connect just fine over tcp/ip with activesync 3.1 installed on my desktop but not with activesync 3.5 (and higher). I can see in a network traffic that that wcescomm closes the socket after the first data packet comes over from the device. I always use guest only connections, and I have all the registry keys manually populated instead of using a GUI to populate connectoids and such. Is there some new requirement beginning with activesync 3.5 that repllog needs to look up in the registry and pass along in that first packet? This should work, shouldn't it?     - CEProcessorType PXA25x I have looked at the past posts on this issue in google. We've had our CEProcessorType set to PROCESSOR_ARM720 since we thought this was the recommended best-fit for the PXA25x (XSCALE) processors. We've just been trying to install some 3rd party PPC2003 drivers and the activesync installation doesn't work unless this is set to STRONGARM. There is something in the newsgroup about EVC debugger problems with the STRONGARM setting on some bsp versions. My question is, what depends on this setting ?     - Zero Config failed in adding IPv6 support ? Dear all, I use NETUI as sample to write my own Wireless Zero Config program. Everything is fine before adding "TCP/IPv6 Support" component at Platform Builder. After adding "TCP/IPv6 Support", I can't get any available Access Point IDs.     - Platform.reg added : how to speed up platform build ? Hello, Just a quick question : I have to modify my platform.reg and project.reg files very often these days. I tried, as I understood (maybe I'm wrong) to use the makeimg.exe tool on the command line, to speed up the creation process of the platform, instead of calling "Rebuild Platform" from the Build menu.     - Making an NDISUIO clone Hi, I want to have an NDISUIO type protocol driver running along with NDISUIO. I would like to use this as the means of communication to some miniport drivers that we have running. Eventually, I would like to make this smaller and more efficient than NDISUIO for my purpose. To do this, I have 1) Created a .regf with the entry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\XUIO] "Prefix"="XIO" "Dll"="xio.dll" "Index"=dword:1 "Order"=dword:3 2) Created a .bibf entry for xio.dll. 3) Correspondingly, I have also changed the names of the UIO_XXX functions to XIO_XXX functions. This doesnt seem to work right now, XIO_Init is failing to register the protocol driver. Later, calls by applications to open the device "XIO:" are failing as well. What I want to know is- If I change all the strings/symbols in NDISUIO source that are specific to NDISUIO, is this process eventually going to produce a clone of NDISUIO that I can optimise, or do I have to modify the source-code for NDISUIO in some non-trivial way to accomplish this? I use Intel XScale and NOR Strata Flash as my target platform processor and boot ROM, and I take IPSM(3.7/3.6/3.5) to divide a part of flash memory as my persistent storage device for some important files and registry. Anytime when I enabled the IPSM, and add the feature of MSFlash driver, the system hangs at the point of loading IPSM's DLL driver. But if I disabled the registry key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init\BootVars] "Start DevMgr"=dword:0 ; usually is dword:1 for IPSM The system will not get hanged and can keep on running, then the Hive-Based registry will gone. I want to keep my IPSM settings and load the MSFlash driver into my OS image, thus I can read/write my flash memory for OS image(nk.bin) updating under the control of WinCE. Is this possible? Or I have to porting the strata flash device driver under \public\common\oak\drivers\block\msflashfmd to my new stream driver (built-in dll) for the application usage, is this possible? I could complie my source codes of pocket pc 2002 on pocket pc 2003. But it doesn't work I am sure that there're no error while driver is loaded and running. I knew that the only difference between pocket pc 2002 and 2003 is virtual miniport.     - Debugger stops communicating after download Arrgh, I can't debug from my PC, but other PC's can connect to my target and debug OK. This problem is similar to the platbuilder thread "Wince hang after download" last October http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=ddba77ec.0310070715. 1b159f98%40posting.google.com but I couldn't make that solution work for me. But I think the solution will be similar - some sort of problem with the current state of my Platform Builder instance. Has anyone else seen this, or have any ideas what might be happening?     - Questions about Installable ISR Hello, I'm back again with some questions about installable ISR (I'm beginner in driver development). I'm trying for an ISA board to build an IISR. The IISR dll is created and it is loaded without any problem. In the application that loads the dll I do: isrHandle = LoadIntChainHandler(IsrDLL, ISRHandler, irqNr); and I get a valid handle. I see that my CreateInstance from dll is called (I do nothing special there ... ). So far so good ... until I want to get a SYSINTR via the call: KernelIoControl(IOCTL_HAL_REQUEST_SYSINTR, &irqNr, sizeof(irqNr), &Info.SysIntr, sizeof(Info.SysIntr), &returnedBytes) which retruns an error (87 - Invalid parameter). I ignored this, but my driver gets no interrupts (the ISRHandler is not called at all). Now questions: 0. There is any way to list all the mapped interrupts ? Something like the resource viewer ? 1. Do I need to get a SYSINTR (I have only one device per INT) ? 2. Do I have to do some special calls to enable or initialize the interrupt ? 3. The board memory was accessible in DOS mode under the address 0xD000:0000 size 16k. To get access to the board memory do I have to use TransBusAddrToStatic or MmMapIoSpace ? 4 If MmMapIoSpace is used how do I specify the memAddress ? As 0xD000 or 0xD0000 ? The PVOID returned by MmMapIoSpace can be used to read the memory directly ? 5. If TransBusAddrToStatic is used how do I specify the BusAddress ? As 0xD000 or 0xD0000 ? The PPVOID MappedAddress represent what in fact ? A buffer ? How do I read from it ? Just I do a cast and read bytes ? 6. Do I need to put something in the registry that the kernel will read ? (I ask this because the the "Installable ISRs with Drivers" topic in the help file speak about registry ... ) I know the GIISR example but unfortunately the mechanism is not extremely clear for me !     - a client class - procedure to create ? PB 4.1 Dear experts, this question relates to PB 4.1. Initially the platform chosen is the PB 4.1 Thin Client with the browser. Then, Citrix ICA client is added (using guidelines from Citrix. BTW this does not add new client class with icons or bitmaps). All that works almost OK. However recently a customer desired that we will make custom image for them with a new type of client ( maybe X11 or so, customer has the code for it). Looking at PB documentation I only was able to find little information about how to add a new client class to existing thin client framework. In particluar, in the file C:\WINCE410\PUBLIC\RDP\OAK\UIT\SHELL\TASKMAN\wbtclnts.h there are comments which say that ///// A user can define 0 or more "connections" using any of the clients defined in the system. A connection uses exactly one client; there can be 0 or more connections defined for each client. Clients and connections are defined in the registry. The set of clients is fixed when the WBT executable image is built; there is no UI for adding a new new client. But there is of course a UI to allow the WBT user to define new connections. /// While adding a new client in registry is somewhat simple procedure, should we then also change the C++ code accordingly to match that increased number of clients from registry ?     - Design Issue: MDD/PDD vs. UAM We have a dual processor system with a custom dsp and a ARM9 processor. Arm9 is the master of the chip and we have certain protocols to communicate with the dsp and execute tasks(especially audio decoding) on it. Windows CE will be the OS which will be running on the Arm. The following figure shows the data flow for the audio data. ED ------- DD ------ -------------- ---| DSP |---->| DMA |--->| Audio Device | ------- ------ -------------- ED = Encoded Data, DD = Decoded Data We can access the audio device (and DMA) either via the Arm CPU or the DSP. In our current audio architecture, we use a MDD/PDD model where we send all sorts of encoded and raw PCM data to the DSP for playback. ARM is used only as a facilitator. We now want to extend our solution to support multiple audio tasks as our DSP is capable of handling more than one conversion at a time. For example we can be playing MP3 and simultaneously write some other data(decoded) to the disk. Is UAM the way to go for us??? Can someone explain how do we go about implementing UAM. We might later add a mixer to the DSP where we can play data from multiple sources simultaneously. Does this affect our choice of UAM. Is there any way to impliment a custom password store? I want to handle
storage and verification of passwords in my own dll in order to meet
specific security specifications. I primarily want to use this for
authentication of the RAS server/PPTP server. Does anyone know if this is
possible in Windows CE .NET 4.1 or 4.2?
