    - Win CE CryptoAPI w/ files on hidden partition - ? Good morning experts, we came across a potential problem in Windows CE 4.2. One of our customers wants to have a higher than normal security device, running WIndows CE 4.2. Here is what they plan to do. The only persistent storage is a flash disk. The only file system is that flash disk file system and that flash disk partition is marked hidden for Windows CE by using MountFlags=1 value for IDE profile. So user really sees no files at all, but registry persists on that flash disk correctly. However, the files on that hidden partition of a flash disk are stored in encrypted form and are accessible to customer application. Crypto API 2 is used to encrypt/decrypt files. In case if flash disk or device is stolen, it would not be possible to retrieve data from such flash disk. Customer has reported recently, that this approach would work well if a flash disk is formatted FAT and partition is notrmal, i.e. not hidden. However, Crypto API 2 function CryptDecrypt() returns an error [bad data], when exact same code is used for files on hidden partition, as described above. When partition not marked as hidden, it works as customer wants. Does anybody have a clue ? Any help is highly appreciated.     - [Q]: Dynamic Loading of DLL Hi all, I am working on audio driver [unified audio model]. I have a middle layer between my application and my driver and it is hidden. My application uses standard API provided by the middle layer, like waveOutOpen. The middle layer I am refering to, is the waveapi.dll & audevman.dll. now this middle layer is making WAV_Init, WAV_IOControl ... calls by decoding its standard APIs, like waveOutOpen. now, the point is, my application wavplay.exe is not specifically using any of the entry points of my audio driver directly. when I load my audio driver at boot time, everything happens normally. and when i try loading my audio driver at runtime, it is not loaded, and my application fails. so, now I would like to know whether I need to change any thing in my registry or something else so that my audio driver gets loaded at runtime.     - windows media player localization Hi- I'm porting an os build to french, german and spanish versions. I have been able to translate everything in the image except windows media player. Microsoft doesn't allow access to the media player source (as it does with IE), so I'm not sure how to localize media player. Is there a way that I can access the .res files or anything else to translate the application? Or can I obtain a localized version of windows media player from microsoft?     - Crash with execption Hi, We are getting a crash on a SH3 processor. It prints "Exception FFFFFFE0" before it terminates. I've researched this a bit and found that this seems to transcent the processor type and perhaps a more generic error report. I've also searched all the H files for ffffffe0 and for -32 with no real luck. Anybody know what this exception means?     - Can I display floats from bootloader? I am using the EdbgOutputDebugString function to print debug info from my bootloader. Is there a way to print floating point values?     - Bootloader Hi We have been running wince.net 4.2 on sa1110 based hardware. The bootloader we use has been ported from wince300 when it used to exist in the sa11x0bd bsp supplied by Intel. The bootloader runs without problems. We are now moving to Xscale and again are now porting our bootloader across (we want to port this across because it has had lots of features added to it, and we understand the code well). My question is that we do not use BLCOMMON, or any bootloader code supplied by the new XScale BSP. We are purely porting our bootloader across to Xscale. Can I do this??? do we have to use BLCOMMON??? Is there anything that we should be weary of, or watch out for.     - How to change the image(nk.bin and boot.bin) location in flash? Hi everybody, I want to use the first 128KB in flash for other purpose. I can put a branch instruction at the boot address which jumps to 0x00020100 where the new boot loader should be. For this reason I would like to build the images as following: old: 0x00000000 boot.bin 0x00040000 nk.bin new: 0x00020000 boot.bin 0x00060000 nk.bin How can I tell the Platform Builder to do the job for me?     - lack of .lib and .h files Hello, I created a nk.bin file with platform builder 4.2. I added the NTLM module under "Authentication services (SSPI)". I generated the headers for the platform (Menu->Build->Generate Platfom Headers) then i used Menu->Platfom->Build SDK to create my own .msi file for the platform. I installed the platform onto my hardisk. Then I wanted to compile (with EVC4.0) my application to which uses the NTLM service: my app need both Ntlmssp.h and Ntlmssp.lib. I dont understand why, but the two files above are not inside the platform i created thru Build SDK. The path of the sdk is C:\WINCE420\PUBLIC\XXXXX\RelDir\NATIONAL_GEODE_X86Release I searched for those two files in my HDisk, and i found them (for example the .h file in the path C:\WINCE420\PUBLIC\COMMON\OAK\INC), and i set the right paths for them and my application got compiled properly.     - How to make the media player fluent? Hi, I am doing some development on a Sandgate platform with pxa255 processor. It uses a 240*320 LCD. In landscape display mode(320*240), the media player works well. But in portrait display mode(240*320), it works bad and it's play speed is very slow. Why? How can I resolve this problem?     - USB LEXMARK JUMPDRIVE problem !!!!! Hi All, Please help me ... I have have been reading the messages that has similar problem ...but iam missing something in my configuration!!! I have configured a CEPC using the WEBPAD configuration, when I insert the usb drive I cant see any reaction, the CEPC does not show any events occuring in the kernel debugging output.I have pasted my out below the registry settings....When I insert a USB mouse it works fine!!! but USB drive doesnt show anything.I have also formatted the USB jumpdrive to FATS. I can see this class interface "A4E7EDDA-E575-4252-9D6B-4195D48BB865" with DSK1: but the CEPC does not do anything. I have added 1) FAT FSD 2) OHCI (ican view the USBMSC.DLL,USBDISK6.DLL on my CEPC) 3) core os services i have added USB storage class drivers. 4) Under "Storage Devices" I added Compact flash/PC card storage(ATADISK) below is my registry settings and output...     - Access to sockets out of the CE device driver Whould anybody know whether it's possible to use the WinSock out of the CE streams driver, i.e in the device.exe context? I'm calling the WSAStartup() et al upon an interactive application request, so the WinSock has long been initialized by then. The driver does link against the ws2.lib statically though. Any soul doing something similar? What I'm seeing is the success for the socket(), bind(), setsockopt()s and the sendto() calls, but no packets leave the iPAQ. There should be no ARP/routing issues to speak of. It is the UDP (SOCK_DGRAM) socket on the Windows Mobile 2003 if that matters. Someone else posted a similar problem under the title "COREDLL.DLL ERROR" on July 7. I have a device that is headless based upon the PXA255 and a Win CE 4.2 OS. We are developing our own bootloader, BSP and application. In that BSP we will use the Intel Persistent Storage Memory (IPSM) installable file system driver. The application is being developed with the .Net Compact Framework in C#. The registry can be persisted and there is one folder within the file system which is persisted. Whenever the unit is powered off you don't lose the registry but you lose the DLLs of the Compact Framework and when the application is launched it asks to re-install the Compact Framework.     - PB Can't Communicate With Device After EBOOT in CE 5.0 My target device is started with "loadcepc /E:300:9: /V eboot.bin". I can connect and download an image to the device. About the time the Windows CE Desktop appears on the target, Platform Builder can no longer communicate with the device. If I try to view Processes or Threads I just get "Waiting to receive data". The remote file viewer and remote registry editor also fail to connect. Strangely enough if I select "Reset Device" under Target in Platform Builder, the device gets the signal to reset! I am using Platform Builder for Microsoft Windows CE 5.0, Evaluation Edition. I've tried both release and debug builds for several different platforms.     - Making a custom display driver - OMAP 1610 We are about to use the TI OMAP 1610 plattform i a project. This is a dual plattform with one DSP and one ARM processor. One the ARM processor Win CE.net 4.2 is runing. One the plattform we will fit a sensor, and due to som electrical issues, we need to turn the plattform 180 degrees, which involvs rotating the screen image 180 degrees. I've been searching the documentation shiped with plattform builder and embedded Visual C++, and found some documetation. The examples shows how to link existing drivers / libraries with support for rotation for specific plattforms, but I have to customize the ones shipped with the BSP for 1610.     - KITL issues when booting a CEPC Hi I've just started to do some work on WinCE.NET using ethernet downloading and debugging on a CEPC. When I boot the CEPC i use the Serial line to enter a static IP address. The problem comes part way into the boot. The image downloads fine, but then debugging output just stops comming to Platform builder. When i checked the output on the serial line there are a whole load of messages about KITLSend Timed out waiting for Ack. Any ideas?     - enable Full Kernel Mode Hi, I'm a bit confused about the "enable Full Kernel Mode" Feature in PB. I read in MSDN that "The default mode in Windows CE .NET is to run every thread in kernel mode..." . Does this mean really by default every thread in every application is running in Kernel mode? I can't believe that! And then for what do I need the "enable Full Kernel Mode" Switch? I thought that Device drivers (and their threads) always run in UserMode except the corresponding ISR. Applications (and their threads) run in User Mode too. Isn't this true? What happens to my system when i turn on "Enable Full Kernel Mode"? Any ideas?     - My problem in using RDP Hi I made an thin client platform for IXDP425 also I added sound driver for my device and it works fine. But when I connected with Microsoft RDP to windows 2003 server and play a music sound it return me an error: windows media player cannot play the file because there is a problem with you sound cardâ?¦.. My sound card of windows 2003 server are ok and it works properly. When I run â??sounds and audio devicesâ?? from control panel I see it uses Microsoft RDP Audio Driver as its audio driver and it is mute and when I unchecked mute check box and then applied it, it checked mute check box again. Also from Remote computer sound combo box in Local Resources tab I tested Bring to this computer and leave at remote computer .but none of them worked.     - USB deadlock ? We have been trying to track down a 'hang' bug on our platform and have possibly narrowed it down to the UHCI driver. We have stress tests running simultaneously on 3 serial ports, 2 network ports, the IDE/compact flash interface and the USB driver. The only time the test fails is if we assign the USB host and interrupt (effectively 'enabling' the USB test, test does not start on USB if not running). By 'fail' I mean complete hang of board/OS, no ping, no mouse, etc. Naturally, when running the kernel debugger, the timing changes such that the stress tests never fail :( Is this a known issue ? Any one else have this problem ? Given other problems we have had with the USB driver (arbitrary reset timeouts and such in the driver that have to change based on using a hub or not) and the fact the stress tests running continuously w/out USB this is the current area of suspicion.     - Extended characters don't consistantly show On CE v4.10 ARM OS with USA locale, I'm seeing inconsistent output when I try to display characters 0x80 to 0x9F with the Wingdings font. I have written an application that works fine on W2K. On CE, my same application doesn't show all of the characters correctly (rectangles), but some in this range do show correctly (e.g. 0x81, 0x8D, 0x8F, and 0x90 are OK). I see the same thing when I created a web page to show this range of characters. Looks good in W2K, but not in CE's PIE. I then created a Word doc with this character range. Looks OK on W2K and also looks correct on CE Word Viewer. I do have the Wingdings font installed on the CE unit. What is Word viewer doing differently that makes it work correctly? I have included the following feature in a Mobile Handheld platform: EP931x Serial Port, Serial Mouse Driver(Anchored for EP931x), ActiveSync with File Sync, Dial Up Networking with AutoDial, TAPI with Unimodem, Serial Port Support I think there are 2 problems here. 1) Serial Mouse Driver I heard that serial activesync requires full UART port, right? If that's the case, I have to remove Serial Mouse Driver. (UART1 is the only full UART port for EP9315.) However, Serial Mouse Driver is an anchored feature for EP931x. Everytime I delete it, it comes back up. I thought I can remove this option in mybsp.bat and I can't find a file like this in EP931x. I searched the string BSP_EP931X_SERMOUSE and I could only find ep931x.cec, the sources file, platform.bib and platform.reg. I tried to remove the Environment Variable of this driver. But it is restored everytime. How can I remove this feature? 2) Direct Connection I thought I should be able to select Make New Connectin -> Direct Connection even though UART1 is occupied. But this option is grayed out. Only Dial-Up Connection can be selected.     - Wordpad hangs machine when reading disk based text file Hello. I have been working on building an image for a NS Geode Advantech SBC (PCM-3350). I am presently able to use the Ethernet, Serial Ports, parallel port and the hard drive attached. When I try to load a text file into Wordpad, the platform hangs. In that entries we have selected the internal IR and changed the port no. After that we build the platform , it creates both the irdastack and irsir dlls. when we were loading this platform, we were able to see that, irsir has been loaded. But when we run any of the IrSock programs, the communication is not happening with another IRDA device. Actually whenever we are making the irsock calls, irsir driver is getting the calls, but actual communication is not happening.     - AVI Playback in 4.2 Alright, I've searched the archives and come up with nothing (well one thread, but it didn't have a solution). I have an AVI that plays fine on CE 4.1, though I didn't create that 4.1 image. I'm now trying to create a 4.2 build that will play the file on the exact same piece of hardware, but I keep getting a failure saying it doesn't have a codec for it. I created a platform from the "custom device" start and included eveything under the Basic Multimedia and Multimedia sections. I've double checked that everything in the Catalog that has anything to do with media, sound or DirectX is included. I've conpared the winceconfig.h and ce.bib files of the two platforms, and I really don't see anything media related that is different between the two platforms. The new platform will play MPG and WMV files just fine. So after all that, here's the question: What could be the cause of this?     - Debugging Bootloader From Emulator I'm debugging a bootloader for a PXA255 based system and have run into a problem getting the PDB files for the bootloader to be downloaded. Apparently PB when it connects to a EXDI based emulator sends the name and path of a PDB file for the Win CE image for that particular platform. When I connect to the emulator I see in the PB debugger that the NK.EXE module (i.e. the whole Win CE image) is loaded along with the associated PDB file. Is there any way to change this name to point to my bootloader instead of the _FLATRELEASEDIR ? Since the bootloader has to be named NK.EXE also for ROMIMAGE to relocate it (otherwise "pTOC" is not fixedup properly) I can't just change the SOURCES file for the bootloader to point to the flat release directory. I tried to delete the NK stuff from the release directory and copy in the bootloader ones and for some reason PB can not connect to the emulator. Thanks for the help!     - File remove problem Hi, I've gotten the filesystem under my install of the CE 5.0 evaluation version messed up pretty seriously and need a pointer on what to do about it. The install is on an NTFS volume, which is not the boot volume, if that helps. The OS is Windows XP SP1. The problem shows up where there is a file, 1251.txt, say, in \Wince500\PBWorkspaces\PGTWorkspace\RelDir\Emulator_x86_Debug. I cannot delete this file. Windows XP says that access is denied, etc., the file is in use and that I should make sure it's not read-only and that no one is using it. There's nothing running that would be using it. The file properties do not show Read Only being set. The same problem appears to be the case for *every* file in the \Wince500 directory. I can't create new folders under that folder, or delete files that are already present. Other parts of the volume seem fine (I can create and delete files in other directories, except \WinCE500). I have run chkdsk on this volume. Note that it won't run from the graphical UI, as it says that there are system files that can't be accessed except during startup because they are in use. In any case, when it runs no errors are shown, but the files are still inaccessible when XP boots after chkdsk. I did a few things on Friday that I suppose might have left things in a bad state, if there is a bug or very odd behavior in the OS, but I don't know what to do about it. I shared the WinCE500 folder within our workgroup (read-only). I then moved one of the PB projects in the workspace mentioned above from the workspace directory to the OTHERS folder. I also copied that folder to a remote system, too. Later, I copied another of the projects in the workspace to the same remote computer. I have no persistent network connections to this WinCE500 share, however and don't seem to have anything on the remote machine which might be a copy of a hard link or a copy of a file to which PB might have built a hard link during OS build. Hello experts, we came across a customer, who absolutely wishes to to see no files or folders under Windows CE 4.1, when he/she/they use a Open... command in Internet Explorer, or another similar application. We had put MountFlags=1 for the solid state disk properties in platform registry to make that partition hidden, so local persistent storage is not showing up. However, the RAM file system is still there (and customer not happy). It is my understanding that neither MountFlags action nor File System Filter would work on RAM file system.     - Ceplayer (media player) + WAV files I have a strange problem, my ceplayer on the CE 4.2 platform plays mp3 files, but no WAV files. A messagebox is displayed when I double-click a WAV file: Cannot open '\test.wav'. Please verify that the path and filename are correct and try again (0x80004001) The wav files are in the same dir as the mp3 files and have the same access rights. This is strange, certainly because I can play WAV files under the control panel via the 'Volume & Sounds' applet, and under eVC using the PlaySound API. Maybe I have a broken registry key? Our platform is SMDK2410+Windows CE 4.2
After copy several files to ResidentFlash folder, the system can not boot
up. And after rewrite eboot system can boot up again.

Anyone can give some hints?
And how the mspart driver control the boundary of os image and file system?

We found that remove the function "InitEthDevice" from OEMPlatformInit in
eboot will cause this problem. We want to make release version OS image
without ethernet debug support, because our release version hardware has no
ethernet. But InitEthDevice will block the system boot process on
none-ethernet board.

But the quesion is why InitEthDevice cause flash file system problem?
