    - Fonts and Licensing Hi, I dont know where else to ask this so I hope someone can help. I need arabic script on CE. For test purposes I have loaded a font file from my development PC and all is fine. However since the fonts that are supplied with the SDK / Platform Builder do not include arabic script I am wondering if there would be a Licensing issue with using the equivalent font file taken from a Windows XP installation - or maybe the reason there is no arabic on CE is simply to save space - not a lisencing issue? I want to know if the Storage Device Benchmark Tests are applicable to NAND flash.     - Cursor Support The on-line help states: â?? To stop the display of the mouse cursor, be sure the SYSGEN_CURSOR variable is not set.â?? But when I remove the OS Core Mouse component that sets SYSGEN_CURSOR, build and test the image, there is still an Arrow cursor that tracks mouse movement. I know that SYSGEN_CURSOR is no longer set because in does not appear in either the sysgensetting.out or __pass1/2.txt files. Does anyone know what is going on here? BTW â??     - usb mass storage client driver I was trying to implement mass storage device on USB function controller driver on Windows CE 5.0. After configuring the registry USB function controller driver for Mass storage class and connected the device, I found that one of the command in mass storage READ_FORMAT_CAPACITY (0x23) was not supported. I got the debug messages as below: UsbMsFn!STORE_IsCommandSupported: ++ UsbMsFn!STORE_IsCommandSupported: command 0x23 UsbMsFn!STORE_IsCommandSupported: unsupported command 0x23 UsbMsFn!STORE_IsCommandSupported: -- UsbMsFn!BOT_HandleCBW: command not supported in the mass storage code i found that there was no implementation of the code for this READ FORMAT CAPACITY command. After this command was not processed, the endpoint was stalled and the bus was reset by the USB host.     - NDIS Optimized Receive Handling in CE 5.0 Does anyone have any testimonial for this making much of a difference to their performance ? I spent a lot of time trying to get the performance I wanted in CE 4.1 and ended up never being able to get the stack to accept packets with NdisMIndicateReceivePacket and return NDIS_STATUS_PENDING. It always copied the data and returned immediately with NDIS_STATUS_SUCCESS. I'm wondering if this optimized receive handling is now enabling this functionality in CE where a packet might never get copied, but just passed up and down the stack until return to the driver pool with MiniportReturnPacket.     - CPU Utilization Changing with Remote Tools Hello, I have a unique problem under WINCE 5.0 I have a network application that seems to be hogging the CPU - It takes up about 60-70% of the processor. This was unacceptable so I started looking into what could be causing the problem. During this debugging process I found something a little confusing ... If I connect the Remote Call Profiler (simply connect, not even launching an app or collecting data - i.e. just having ConPMon.exe running) my App's efficiency all of a sudden drops to an expected value of 10-15% utilization. My first thought was that the Remote Performance Monitor was just reporting the utilization wrong so I ran a TOP like program and it verified this behaviour. I still didn't like it so I hooked a scope up to my board and used the idle routine and a led toggle and sure enough my scope shows the same results. So, I'm left with ConPMon.exe kicking my system into a "good" state. I can disconnect the profiler, restart the app and everything is fine. The system stays in a â??goodâ?? state. This happens if I connect via activesync or a tcp manual cemgr. No other remote tool does this (put system into a "good" state). Moreover, no other tool will remove the system from a "good" state except for the Remote Kernel Tracker. If I try to use the Remote Kernel Tracker all bets are off - the system goes back into a "bad" state and the app runs at 60-70% CPU utilization. Between these two system states the registry is the same. I've tried switching thread priorities and quantum times of my app. With an OS debug build the App runs at around 25% but comparing a retail build to a debug build is a little trickier. I canâ??t seem to find out what constitutes a â??goodâ?? state. I'm leaning toward a socket select call or overall TCP/UDP state causing my problem. The app is pretty simple and only single threaded. ConPMon.exe and my App share the following module linkages: wspm, ssllsp, ws2 (and of course coredll) - all IP "stuff". If anyone is familiar with what might be going on while loading ConPMon.exe and/or the remote kernel tracker and might have some ideas as to what their threads might be changing I would greatly appreciate it.     - SetSystemMemoryDivision kills my display? I'm working on a PXA255-based device. I have two different CE images based on the same BSP, the only difference is in catalog components (one falls into the Core license, one into the Pro license). With one image (Pro) the device boots fine, everything is ok. With the other build (Core), when a call to SetSystemMemoryDivision is made that gives Storage Memory < ~20% of available RAM (not sure exactly the division, but it's around there) then the display goes blank. A scope on the pixel clock shows it has quit running. The OS itself is still running. I believe there's a bug somewhere that is in both, but is only manifesting in one image. I also think the fact the pixel clock is killed is just happenstance, on the other image it's probably stepping on memory less obvious. To make things more interesting, KITL and kernel debugging are not an option right now (don't ask), which is why I've not traced into the call. So my questions actually are: 1.     - PXA27x / IXP4xx CE5.0 BSPs production readiness? What are the thoughts out there on how "production ready" the shipped CE5.0 BSPs are for the Intel IXP425 and PXA270? We are contemplating a new development with one or other of these processors and will run CE 5.0. MS say that they have put a lot of effort into ensuring that the BSPs for 5.0 are really production ready. We found that it took a lot of work to get the CE .NET 4.2 BSP for the PXA255 to the state where we considered that it was ready for shipping.     - Issue: netcard driver with hive-based registry in Gateway Platform Hi all, When i build a platform on gateway without hive-based registry streaming, ping, network copying, rest of the applications work fine when i build a platform on gateway with hive-based registry streaming, ping keeps working fine but when network copy is given the following error message is displayed on the host machine connected to gateway. [ cannot copy xxx(filename): The specified network name is no longer available ] and then on the netcard driver no longer performs any operation. To be specific Gateway stops working. When our netcard driver was benchmarked with RTL8139 ethernet driver with hive-based registry enabled and streaming, ping along with network copy was run we observed the similar message on host m/c [ cannot copy xxx(filename): The specified network name is no longer available ] but rest of the applications continued to perform and the Gateway continued to work fine.     - UDC performance on PXA270 Hi. Could someone please share his experience with PXA USB client controller + windows xp sp2 host? I'm not able to reach more than 250KB/s on RNDIS. Other USB function drivers seem to be even slower (eg. USB Serial). So what is the highest speed everyone ever seen on Wince 5.0 on XScale and Windows XP on the host side?     - Mass Storage USB Function Driver on PXA27x Working! (Almost) Hi all, I just started to test the USB Mass Storage Function Driver (CE 5.0) on our PXA27x platform a few days ago. At first nothings seemed to work. I installed the latest QFEs (Till Q1 2005), and fixed the whole Cable Detct routine. Now when I connect to my Notebook I get a "Stall send on In Endpoint = 0x1", followed by a 10-20 seconds timeout, then a Stall again. But after some (usually 2-3) loops the Mass Storage device is detected correctly and mounted. Then it works stable for reads and writes. The interesting thing is that if I enable the "Transport" debug zone int the USB function driver, the mass storage is recognized immediately, without stalling. I suspect there is a timing problem somewhere. Another strange thing: if I loopack the USB fucntion with the USB Host on our CE platform the USB mass storage disk is never detected correctly. I get the following Debug Messages in an infinite loop: BOT_DataTransfer error(5.3.3, dwCswErr:1460, dwUsbErr:0x0, dwTimeout:4000) Retry CSW But maybe this is a problem with the USB Mass Storage Client driver on the Host side (I had some problems with other USB mass storage devices in the past) I know there should be some fix available from Microsoft, but I cannot wait much longer. Does anyone know when the fix will be available?     - power management issue of WinCE 5.0 Hello, We are getting the problem about power management in the WinCE 5.0. The OS and its entire software stacks cannot recover after going to suspend state. The same problem is mentioned by the Intell in the release note of "830DSTB WinCE 5.0 BSP V3.0". Thay allready fixed this problem in this BSP version.     - Problem seeing OutputDebugStrings output from CE 5.0 target Hello All, I have created a device driver for my CEPC system, which I have included in the sysgen, along with registry entries to automatically load my driver on bootup. Over the course of my XXX_Init() routine, I call OutputDebugString() a number of times to send debug output to the debugger (PB 5.0); and I believe the XXX_Init() is indeed being called, becaused my driver appears in the "gi mod" list. However, I never see the debug statements. What might be the problem? More Specific Info on my configuration: 1] I am using Platform Builder 5.0 to attach to the device and download the image. This process works successfully. 2] As noted, the command "gi mod" shows my device driver among the other modules. My driver is also listed under the builtin/active registry key. I take these signs to indicate that my device driver is being loaded, and that my XXX_Init() routine is being called. Is this a valid assumption? 3] I am looking for the output from OutputDebugString() in the "debug" pane of the Platform Builder environment. Is this where it should appear? [I also checked the terminal showing the bootup serial output, and the debug statements do not appear there, either.] 4] I am using the "release" build of the CEPC system (since the debug build had errors during the sysgen). Would this affect whether the debug strings are displayed? I am inclined to think that it would not, especially since I do see debug statements from other drivers in the system (such as the keyboard layout driver).     - Firewire storage on CEPC Hi all, I can't get a specific Firewire storage device (CompactFlash card in an external Firewire adapter) to be recognized. My platform is a Windows CE 4.2 .NET CEPC on a VIA Eden & Prosavage/ Twister based device. A standard external Firewire to IDE adapter works fine with an IDE hard disk with FAT file system. I'm trying to read the dll import table using a pointer initialized to modBaseAddr field of the structure MODULEENTRY32 filled by the Toolhelp api but as I read the first byte pointed by this pointer, the system throws an access violation exception how can I read the memory where the system loads the dll linked by my process ?     - ARM Developer Suite and WinCE 4.2 Hi, I am using ARM Debugger to develop a RAM Based eboot. (Just for testing purpose no other intention). Using the debugger i am able to downlaod a RAM WinCE 4.2 OS Image and jump there. FYI, I tested this using a Eboot in Flash Memory. Since my flash chip gone bad i am doing this using a SDRAM Eboot. But, when i jump there my ADS is loosing the control on the Target. I could see that after completion of OS downlaod it is just jumping to the SDRAM no reset in WinCE code AFAIK. Infact, it saying that a "Dead Target" and giving a message as target may be needed to restarted. Can anyone please suggest ?     - Ndis wlan driver porting, ISR and dma issues Hi, I am porting a XP NDIS 5.1 wlan driver to WinCE 5.0. My platform is CEPC The wlan device is a PCI device. I use ethernet for download and kitl for debug messaages 1) When I register the interrupt using NdisMRegisterInterrupt it succeeds with irq 9 and sysintr 18 assigned. But the os crashes immediately after that with access violation exception. The source of crash is tough to find since the debug messages and call stack are not consistent. From the available debug messages it appears that there is no irq conflict. The miniportisr never gets called hence i am suspecting that registering the isr or irq is a issue here. If i dont register the interrupt the driver loads completely and is stable but obviously no interrupts will be handled. I am thinking of using installable isr since the interrupt might be shared and since the driver uses the wlan chip register to detect the interrupt. 2) The original driver in windows uses mapregisters for dma operation. since mapregisters are not supported in CE how can the dma operation be achieved. We based our design on the HD64465 PCMCIA controller register set, since our hardware bears some resemblence to the Aspen platform (ie its an SH4, and uses the SH4 areas 5 & 6 for PCMCIA bus signals). Anyway, I found a bug in the Aspen PCMCIA code for 4.2 in the PDCardSetSocket() function in hd465socket.c. The bug is in the code that configures fInterruptEvents - a missing "squiggle". Specifically, line 344 reads: DisableCSCIERInts &= CC_PCMCIA_CSCIER_STSCH_INT_EN; but it should be changed to: DisableCSCIERInts &= ~CC_PCMCIA_CSCIER_STSCH_INT_EN; On the same topic (same code function) I have a question for anyone (MS or Renesas) who might have some familiarity with this code... Why does a request to enable interrupts from the card detect lines also enable interrupts for RDY and STSCHG (in IO mode)?     - Corrupt mouse cursor We are using CE 5.0 with VIA CLE266 x86 hardware and have occasionally (3-4 times) seen where several areas of the LCD display have 'garbage' displayed that we do not explicitly display. After some investigation, we connected a USB mouse/keyboard and found that the two areas responded to mouse movement and consequently seem to be a corrupted cursor. One area is ~60 pixels high by 4 pixels wide, appears on the top left display border and only moves veritcally in response to mouse movements. The other area is ~60 pixels high by 60 pixels wide, appears on the right display border with only one horizontal pixel displayed initially and moves vertically and horizontally in response to mouse movements. This is all very peculiar because at startup our application sets the cursor off screen( SetCursorPos( ::GetSystemMetrics(SM_CXSCREEN)+10, 0 ); ), our hardware has no mouse, keyboard or other device that moves the cursor and we never reposition the cursor. From the observed behaviour, it appears to me that the cursor is both being redefined to a much larger cursor and may also be repositioned into the display area. After configuring the registry USB function controller driver for Mass storage class and connected the device, I found that one of the command in mass storage READ_FORMAT_CAPACITY (0x23) was not supported.     - KernelFindMemory and cache write-back Hi, I've found something weird in the WinCe kernel start-up code: In the KernelfindMemory function (that's called right after OEMInit), the kernel sets up some data in the RAM via some uncached access and at the end of KernelfindMemory writes-back the whole cache in RAM. The result is that the data that had been set up in RAM may be (and in my case was) overwritten with some bad values. I've seen this when running CE 5.0 (and 4.2 as well) on a AT91RM9200 (ARM920T) Here is a sample from the kernelFindMemory function (located in loader.c in the private branch) .... // *MUST* make the pointer uncached (thus or in 0x20000000) // // LogPtr at the start of RAM holds some header information // LogPtr = (fslog_t *)PAGEALIGN_UP ((pTOC->ulRAMFree+MemForPT)| 0x20000000); [ .. do a lot of things with LogPtr's content... ... ] OEMCacheRangeFlush (0, 0, CACHE_SYNC_WRITEBACK); ... The thing is that it may happen that the cache line where logPtr's content would be located may be in cache and dirty when KernelFindMemory is called. In this case, when OEMCacheRangeFlush, we loose the new content of LogPtr. Depending on the mapping of the kernel, it may or may not happen. When the problem happens, the platform stops executing and usually display wrong values in the list of the memory sections (Start value would be 0x000000000 for example instead of something like 0x800xxxxx). The workaround for this is to write back the cache at the end of OEMInit. My question is: Is this something that somebody had already seen?     - Screen gets cleared when CE boots We are using CE 5.0 with VIA X86 hardware and find that the LCD display is blank from when CE starts to boot and to shortly after the video driver (ddi_VIA) starts. This takes ~7.5 seconds and we would prefer to have something on the screen so that people know that it is working. Prior to CE booting, our BIOS displays a screen that we would like displayed during CE boot but something in the boot process clears it. Does anyone know what code in the OAL is doing this and if the screen clearing can be disabled? Hi,
I'm working out test on CE.NET. For some info, I use Remote Kernel Tracker
tool. But surprisingly the following situation come out:
- when the device IP adress is obtained via DHCP the tool loads OK;
- when I specify a device IP adress the tool hangs out.
Any ideas of what is going on?

By the way, this bug behavior comes out if the Remote Kernel Tracker is run
after the IP address change. If the Remote Kernel Tracker was launched and
after the IP address was changed â?? itâ??s OK.
