    - exe files from files section of bib file From some ce device, I have ever copied some dll or exe files from windows directory to other location. And I know the files from modules section are removed with file header information. So the files can't be handled as file. But the files of files section from bib files are not removed with its file header. So I think the dll or exe files from files section can be handled by file i/o. but it doesn't work as my thought.     - VirtualAlloc/VirtualCopy mapped regions do not display in Memory I am starting my first Windows CE 6 device driver and am having trouble with the Memory window of the debugger not showing me areas of physical memory (the registers used to configure my processor's GPIO) that i have mapped via VirtualAlloc and VirtualCopy. The problem I have is that in Platform Builder/Visual Studio, in the Debug->Windows-Locals Window I can see the value of pGPIORegs, but if I expand it, all the values of that struct say "CXX0030: Error: expression cannot be evaluated" and if I open the Memory Windows at the address that pGPIORegs points to, all I see are question marks "??".     - NADN Flash Driver problem Dear All, I use PB 6.0, and my target platform is IXP 435. We use the 256 MB NAND Flash (K9F5608UOD) connected to the expansion bus CS3.     - Moving desktop and Programs folders I am working on PB5. I am considering how to install/deploy software updates for our users. Our OS uses a RAM/ROM FS but our device does power off often. Therefor, I loose everything which is not in the OS nk.bin, BUT if I put all of our software in NK.bin, I get a large image which takes over a minute to boot. I'd like to have a lean NK.bin and load our software into our \\Mounted Volume\\ flash storage. CAB installers seem like a good way to install our software, except that if I install desktop or start menu links, they are lost on power-cycle. I found [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Explorer\Shell Folders] and thought I could override the two paths in my project.reg. This leads to the questions: a) Sure, this would let me move where the OS looks for desktop/start menu items, but it won't help me change where apps install too. For example, wordpad and media player icons are forced into \\Windows\LOC_DESKTOP_DIR, etc. Obviosuly I could change the public source but that doesn't feel right. Is there a trick here, or am I way off in what I'm attempting? b) If I ever want to localize my OS, I'm stuck cause I just hardcoded the paths. I can't figure out how to combine the LOC_PATH_* definitions with the \\Mounted Volume path because of the quotes in LOC_PATH_*. Is there a way to override the root path but keep localized names?     - Connect VS 2005 to running platform without ActiveSync Hi all, I develope an MFC application in VS 2005 and an OS design with PB (CE 6.0). I use two instances of VS 2005, one to download the image to the target device and other to write the application. So far, there is no problem in building the platform, downloading it to the target, and debugging through ethernet (using KITL). However, I cannot connect the second instance of VS 2005 to this running OS on the target device to debug the application. However, if the device boots with the pre-installed image, I can connect the VS 2005 instance with ActiveSync and debug my application. I read Mike Hall's blog, windows ce help, ms virtual labs, many newsgroup posts about this subject. The steps I have taken so far are: 1) Add the CoreCon functionality to the platform as a catalog component using CEFileWiz. Now the necessary files (conmanclient2.exe, cmaccept.exe, etc.) are in the windows directory of the target device. 2) When the system boots, I run conmanclient.exe and cmaccept.exe through Target Control, and verify that these are running with "gi proc" command. 3) I used ipconfig to check the ip address of the target and gave this ip address to the Tools/Options/Device Tools/Devices/<my target>/Properties/Configure. This did not work, and I couldn't ping the device. So I set a static ip address for the device in platform.reg file. Repeating the steps above, I could ping the device without any packet loss. But this did not work either. 4) I used connect to device icon on the device toolbar of the application dev. instance of VS. Got "Connection failed. The device is not ready" message. 5) With/out step 4 I did Debug/Start debugging and got the following error: 1>------ Deploy started: Project: REG-TAP, Configuration: Debug Heitec_MFC (ARMV4I) ------ 1>Device is not ready. If target is an ActiveSync device, verify whether ActiveSync connection is running. 1> 1>Connect to device failed. 1> Since I am both developing the platform and the application, I do not want to use ActiveSync, because it doesn't work on the downloaded OS image (I don't know why) and I want to use the ethernet connection for both debugging. I read that establishing this connection is a painful experience, but I am out of ideas and I really need help on this. I will be very greatful for any kind of help. P.S. for the MS guys who read this: I think it was a terrible idea to integrate PB in VS, I find it very difficult to manage most of the things which I could do easily on CE 4.x.     - CEUpdateCheck I was fooling around and launched this tool from VS2K5. My system has CE 3.0, 4.1, 5.0, and 6.0 installed. It showed that some of the QFEs were/are broken or not installed. I have "fixed" some of the QFE installations by reinstalling the updates in an attempt to make the tool happy. CE 3.0 and 4.1 are now good-to-go, but for some reason the tool keeps telling me my 5.0 QFE updates are broken, no matter what updates I reinstall. FWIW, all of the QFE updates were installed previously, so I am not sure what caused the tool to think they were broken and/or not installed.     - Active Sunc large amount Data Transfer Hi, I am using wince 5.0 with PXA270. The target device and host PC (Windows XP) are connected with Active Sync 4.5 over USB. I tried copy file of 30MB size from Host PC to target device. Active Sync connection is breaking after it transfers 15MB data. I tried number of times but results are same.     - Causes for unusual RAS State Transition Platform: Windows CE 5.0, ARMV4I I have a wireless interface stack that works well on other platforms but on this one particular platform we are seeing RAS drop the connection as soon as RAS reports state RASCS_Authenticated. We typically see a RAS state transition to RASCS_Connected from RASCS_Authenticated, instead we get RASCS_Disconnected. I have the serial driver instrumented so know that there is not a COM event being reported with EV_RLSD, EV_RING, EV_ERR, or EV_POWER. I have not been able to get the SAMPLE TSPI to work, nor get a replacement UNIMODEM to install. I have been able to replace ASYNCMAC with my own so know for certain that the line is being torn down due to some code forcing a state transition to LINECALLSTATE_IDLE. Since the device is a commercial device I cannot change or instrument the OS, nor is there any debug serial output. Any thoughts as to reasons that RAS would behave like this? I have a structure named queue and I am allocating it on kernel side and trying to map it to user side using VirtualAllocCopyEx. On a nutshell this is what I am doing inside Map(). queueAddrUM = VirtualAllocCopyEx(GetCurrentProcess(),(HANDLE)ui32ProcessID,queueAddrKM,ui32Size, PAGE_READWRITE | PAGE_NOCACHE); Which means that in queueAddrUM I have the base address for the allocated queue whose kernel address is queueAddrKM). Now I try to update a member of the queue by doing: queueAddrUM->info = some->info and at random times queueAddrUM->info does not get updated instead it keeps the previous values, i.e the value of queueAddrKM->info. It's as though the assignment statement did not exist or it wasn't really mapped(Note: sometimes it works). Any ideas what might be wrong here? P.S queueAddrUM is of type queue and VirtualAllocCopyEx is being called from kernel mode. Please do not be confused by the simplicity of my example, I just tried to keep the problem simple, the types are correct and function calls seem to be placed in context.     - Excessive Frame Drops in pimg application during video capture on I am working on ARMV4I device with WM6 OS using pimg application. My stream interface camera driver followes 3 pin architecture and use "client limited" model drived from MSFT provided NULLCAM driver. For around 4 mins of wmv video capture i am getting around 30KB video seems to have only 9-10 frames. I am passing RGB data on both Preview and capture pin. Capture resolution is QCIF(176x144). Is there any way, by which i can tell Video Capture filter to not drop even a single frames anyhow ? Because of frames drops of video capture filter, we are getting very bad quality and performance.     - MFC application development and debugging Hi, I want to use MFC as the development method of my application. After a research, I learned that I have to make a new SDK project and use this new SDK as the target platform of an MFC project in VS2005. Everything is fine until here. Now, I want to debug the OS and the application at the same time, as I used to do with Windows CE 4.2. Also, I want to use KITL over ethernet connection to do the debugging. I use 2 instances of VS. I download the OS image with one of the VS instances, the system boots and I see the desktop. Then what should I do to download the application on this system and debug through the ethernet connection? Is there a method to build and include the application code in the image as a subproject and debug like an api application? I couldn't find a step-by-step explanation and I really do not want to use ActiveSync connection.     - Windows CE Config.bib Hi Folks, I am here to clarify a few questions that I have regarding config.bib and OEMAddressTable in Windows CE. I have been working on application software for a few years but only recently transitioned to do some work on the BSP layer. The following are my questions. I kindly apologize if you think the question is too trivial or basic for this newsgroup, 1. From the documentation on MSDN I can gather that Windows CE has a OEMAddressTable which specifies virtual to physical address mapping. Virtual memory mapping range is from 0x80000000 to 0x9FFFFFFF. A second virtual address range from 0xA0000000 to 0xBFFFFFFF is automatically mapped for each entry in the OEMAddressTable. My question here is in Windows CE we have a 4 Gb virtual address space with kernel VA space on the top 2 Gb and application space in the bottom 2 Gb. In this table we only specify a physical address mapping for the cached and non-cached parts of the VA for the kernel? How does this mapping map back for PA space for the application's VA? 2. The Config.bib file specifies a mapping between memory region and type (RAMIMAGE, RAM etc). My first question here is is this VA or PA that is specified here? Second, there is also an option to specify NANDIMAGE? So is NANDIMAGE for allowing XIP execution form Nand Flash?     - Double databank entries in "Categories Database" and "DB_notify_events" If I use the ROM-only file system after every restart i get double entries in the databanks "Categories Database" and "DB_notify_events" (and only in these!). If I use the RAM and ROM file system I get these double entries only after a reboot via SetSystemPowerState. I have the system already stepped through with the debugger from SetSystemPowerState to KernelIoControl(IOCTL_HAL_REBOOT...), however, i could find no database access. The double db entries are presumably generated during the system start. But where? How can I find the bug?     - Ethernet debugging Hi, I am working with WINCE 5.0 on Freescale's imx31 board. I have got problem with ethernet. * With KITL/Ethernet , both debugging and normal TCP/IP works fine * Without KITL the Ethernet driver Ping itself fails. i tried with ipconfig on target which returned "No IPv4 adapter found" I think ethernet is not configured properly, can any one please help how to resolve this problem. From time to time one of our drivers is generating interrupts every 2.5 milliseconds which are handled by an IST with priority 20 (highest of all our applications/drivers). The IST reads data from a FIFO buffer filled by the driver. Normally the IST is scheduled within 50 microseconds but occasionally it takes about 15 ms before it's scheduled to handle the interrupt. This results in data loss when reading the FIFO buffer. The problem occurs occasionally by running the same stress test script when the application is started. By adding CeLog data messages in our application and analyzing the CeLog files with Kernel Tracker, we discovered that the latency occurs right after one of the threads in our application throws a c++ exception. The intended exception is caught and handled by our application correctly. We have Dr Watson enabled in our OS design and decided to remove it to see if it has any influence. Intensive testing after removing Dr Watson proved us that the problem no longer occurs. We suspect that Dr Watson is watching the thread that throws the exception and logs it; if Dr Watson's buffer is full it is flushed to the dump file. Sometimes this happens during the period where our driver is generating interrupts that need to be handled within a short time and influences the real-time behavior. This is just a suspicion since we cannot track the Dr Watson activities. Can someone confirm that adding Dr Watson to the design indeed influences the real-time behavior? I prepared my own SK based on the BSP I use, installed it and started the simple smart device MFC project.     - Questions regarding x86 Hi there. I am leading an effort to develop a kind of navigational application. I started about a week ago with no knowlege what so ever about WinCE development. The device we are using is a small touch screen x86 PC. (iEi Afolux AFL-07a ) I have managed to use platform builder to create the WinCE platform and it works great. My second step is to create an environment for the developers to do their thing in. That is, generate the SDK with the emulator. Unfortunately I have found out that x86 does not support emulation. Now my question is... what is the best way to proceed? Should I ditch x86 and build another WinCE platform on the ARMv4 and develop my applications(.NET CF) for that? The other thing I noticed is that if I start a new Windows Ce 5.0 Device application I can actually run the application in Windows XP. I can even use the debugger found in Microsoft .NET Framework SDK v2.0 to debug the application. What I would like to have is that when I press F5 in VS2005 it just runs the executable instead of trying to fire up an emulator. Is this at all possible? I tried setting the debug action to "Start external program" with the debug executable as the program but it does not work. It wants to launch an emulator. Any help or advice would be greatly apreciated. I just want to know what is the best coarse of action for me to take right now.     - Problem Adding .net compact framework 2 and 3.5 to wince 4.20 Help please!! I am trying to add .net compact framework 2.0 and also 3.5 to wince420 platform. The QFEs are up to date as of feb08. None of the files for 2.0 or 3.5 appear in the build, only those for compact framework 1.0. If I take out compact framework 1.0 they still dont appear and I have no compact framework at all. ceconfig.h only has the define for V1 and this I presume is why the 2.0 and 3.5 files are not being included. Clean builds don't help. In desperattion I have just tried a clean build of a new platform, without the compact framework box ticked and then added 2.0 and 3.5 to platfrom. No compact framework. As far as I can tell - whatever is supposed to tell sysgen to put the appropriate hash defines in ceconfig.h is NOT doing it and I can't tell why. HELP!     - Why GetSystemPowerStatusEx always return false I wrote my own backlight driver, the driver will call GetSystemPowerStatusEx to determine the power source is AC or Battery. I have added SYSGEN_PM and SYSGEN_BATTERY in my image (i.e. the catalog->Core OS->Core OS sevice->Battery Driver/Power Management(Full) are selected, I have not written my own battery driver). But GetSystemPowerStatusEx or GetSystemPowerStatusEx2 always return false in my backlight driver. Do I must write my own battery driver to provide BatteryDrvrGetStatus() to make GetSystemPowerStatusEx return TRUE, or just the MS public battery driver I included is enough? If it is because I did not written my own driver, why the POWER applet in Control Panel can show "Charging, Backup Batteries"?
