i am a novice user. i recently installed office 2000/p in my new dell/xp
machine. after much difficulty, i finally linked up my outlook contacts list
so it shows up when i press the "to" button on new emails. but the format is
funny. it looks like john@xyz.com(e-mail) whereas on the old machine the
(e-mail) was not there.
question: is the address book different from the contacts list that i have
managed to configure to provide the "to" function? is there a way to make
such an address book from my contacts folder?
thanks in advance

Your Outlook version is years out of support. You have not specified which
mail support mode of Outlook you are using, and you must. The format of the
email address in the address book view is of no consequence. What makes you
think it is?

The Outlook Address Book is simply a view the electronic addresses in your
Contacts Folder. We can't tell you how to configure it without knowing which
version of Outlook 2000 you are using.
For Outlook 2000, Corp/Workgroup:
Go to Tools > Services. Make sure the Outlook Address Book service is
listed. If not, add it. Next, R click on the Contact folder or folders you
want the OAB to display, choose "Properties", go to the Outlook Address Book
tab and check the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box. You may
also need to go to Tools > Options > Addressing Tab and choose to show your
Contacts folder.
