Ok one more time I have Outlook 2002 will not send

I had a failed disk clone and have a problem sending, but not
receiving messages.

I set up another computer with an OEM Office 2003 Pro from a Dell I
have but have been informed that is illegal since it didn't come with
the box I installed it on.

So here is the short version. I can send when I "TEST" the settings in
the edit area. Says it works but trying to send an actual message it
fails with an error.

I have let it have permission in my firewall so that is not it. I have
resorted to using Hotmail to reply to messages and that's pretty
tedious.

The Seagate drive clone software locked up it seemed and I aborted the
operation when I should have let it go. Most people say it should not
have changed any settings as it was only "copying" Well, I am telling
you I have never seen the issues it has caused. So, until I get real
enthusiastic and do a complete reformat and re-install of XP Pro and
all my programs, all I'd like to do is send e-mail.

I guess you did not grasp what I was saying. The computer with the
Dell OEM version is not the computer I am having the issue with and
have ceased using it since I had been informed I don't "own" that
particular copy. That is version 2003 and the computer I have the
sending issue with has 2002 running and it is a VALID purchased
version of Office

To be perfectly honest I could screenshot the thing and show I had
only started that one twice. The screenshot would show that I was on
the 3rd start of Office of course but please take my word it is not in
use.

I suppose I could have installed the older 2002 version that is on the
box with the issue while I reformatted and re-installed XP Pro, which
I own 8 legitimate copies of for my business. Or I could have
"retired" one of the other machines to accomplish the same thing and
re-re-tired it when I got my main personal home machine up and running
again.

I was only going to use the other computer as a stand-in while I
reformatted and re-installed the XP OS on my main computer. I wouldn't
expect to go back to a computer with a 1.0 ghz P-III. I only installed
it so I could retrieve my e-mail while I gathered up all the drivers
and such for my NEWEST computer about 9 months old.

With all that drivel and explaining that I have ceased using the Dell
2003 version do you think you might have a suggestion as to what is
keeping me from sending e-mail in Outlook 2002 yet I receive fine
plus, it tests fine when in the "edit" screen?

Would you please clarify what you mean? Saying I had an OEM version
and admit it here? You make it sound far more devious and ominous than
what the situation actually was/is.

Had I said, "I got an OEM version of Office Pro Edition from a friend
who's machine no longer works" or "a friend COPIED his version". Now
that would be illegal on the face of it and promote that use in folks
minds.

I did not have a pirated version of Office Pro Edition 2003. It is an
OEM version and far from being pirated. I would even assume even
though it is OEM and came with my Dell machine, I paid some portion of
money for it to be included.

With that said, as I stated in my long winded post it is not being
used as I mistakenly assumed using it in the manner I had in mind was
pretty harmless while I fixed my other computer since I actually
thought I "owned" the disks. I would have dug the Dell out of the
basement and used it except some proprietary piece of the Dell needs
replacing to run.

That said, I have read they (Dell) will no longer use proprietary
hardware in their machines. Most likely not off the shelf but made for
Dell specifically and most likely from China...........a subject I
will stay away from.

In the end I have been told of my mistake and can see where it
violates the EULA and have ceased using it or that computer for that
matter. When I get a minute, I'll uninstall it.

Now, how about some help with my issue please. I don't have the time
right now to do the entire reformat/reinstall on the machine with the
Outlook 2002 issue sending e-mail.

Nah, nothing ominous nor was it meant to be - that was just in response to
peter's refusal to assist. He helps real pirates who don't say they are
using a pirated copy and doesn't know it. Now if you had said you got it
from pirates-r-us.com and the cd key from freekeys.com then none of us would
help you. (both those domain names are registered too <lol>) But it's a
copy you own we're not agents of the BSA.

As for why it won't send mail... authentication is one common cause.
Antivirus scanner scanning outbound mail is another. firewall blocking the
outlook.exe version is another. Does the send/receive progress dialog offer
any clues?

No, nothing. The progress check-offs go right down the line as far as
clues from there.

I have it set in my ZoneAlarm firewall for it to be allowed and
disabling anti-virus does nothing either. Had no issues whatsoever
before that aborted clone of the C: drive copying from an 80gb disk to
a new 250gb HD. Linksys cable router/modem is also not the issue. Why
does it TEST fine, then fail when sending a simple message w/o
attachments?

I have a RAID setup but only in JBOD.

Ihave purchased another (2nd) 250gb and I am going to mirror the next
install to avoid this problem in the future. Seagate said that all the
programs should be working and files and folders in their proper
locations even after the bad disk clone operation but, they ain't here
seeing what I am seeing.

It took 3 days of tinkering and copying to get the thing to boot, and
another day to get most programs working, and most with issues. My HP
printer is wacked out too even after re-installing the software. It
seems the new drive is formatted NTFS and the old one is FAT32 and
they don't play nice.

Get this, if I remove the D: drive where the 250 gb drive is, the
machine will not boot up even in safe mode. YEESH! And Seagate tells
me this is also impossible. It is jumpered to be Slave and it is also
on the secondary IDE channel.

I will just end up doing a complete re-install which I was trying to
avoid at this time but it looks like the only alternative.

Right now I copy incoming e-mail addresses to my Hotmail account and
answer in that manner which is a large pain and stupid to have to do.

I can't imagine just moving from fat32 to ntfs would cause issues - it would
be more likely that the clone missed some files, but yet, if it missed
hidden or system files, I think you'd see more issues than just outlook and
the printer not working.

did you try detect and repair? that should fix any issues caused by the
clone process. working in test but not in real life often points to
authentication. Hmmm... 2002. I don't think it has a setting to control
auth - and many servers require the pop password to send or "pop before
smtp", so mail sends ok within about 10 min of checking for new mail, but
not later. I believe outlook 2002 tries to send mail, then checks for new -
so it will often fail pop before smtp auth, unless you have it set to check
every 8-10 min (as auth is typically valid for 10 min with most servers).

Unless someone specifically says they downloaded a copy from a pirate site,
you have no clue where they got it from - some are pirates, many are legit.
While some people are dumb enough to say they have a pirated copy, many
others with pirated copies will say they have a legal copy - you have
absolutely no way to know for sure who is telling the truth and who is a
pirate. Therefore you can't say that you never helped a pirate solve a
problem - we all have.

I tried all repair options. And yes other programs have/had issues
also as the .exe or other needed file had disappeared also.

It has been an extreme headache. I have been just too busy to properly
attend to it.

Actually I am going to blame "The Greek Squab" at Best Buy. The
manager told me if I purchased a new drive they would clone it while I
waited. So, I hotfooted it home and pulled the drive, returned and
purchased the new Seagate. He then went out on the floor to get a
software package like Acronis. I had that program at home and had
thought he was going to do it with hardware clone equipment. I should
have given it to friend who had access to this at the company he works
at where they use one to deploy new drives. He is tough to get in to
see and he couldn't do it while I waited either.

He came back puzzled looking and said then I had to leave it for 14
days. Besides misleading me I would also have to pay for the software
he ended up using. I can't remember being that irritated for a long
time. What is wrong with people? While you wait suddenly turns into 14
days is not what I had in mind. What would I have done w/o my C: drive
for 2 weeks?

I figured to use the Seagate software to clone copy the new drive
since I wanted it done ASAP. Since then I have been told Acronis True
Image would have worked and I had that program but thought Acronis
Migrate Easy was the program that I needed for my job.

Ok enough of the long-winding road to describe the issue that won't go
away or be resolved so I 'll just bite the bullet and do it.

Hello Diane

You are absolutely correct. But if that would be the case then most =
should not be even giving any helpfully answers to the issues being =
posted by the OP's. Like you said the ones that do say they are using a =
pirated version of any OS or program obviously will not get any help =
from me at least but the others I do answer to my best ability trusting =
they are in need of genuine help. If I go on the premise in these and =
other newsgroups that most if not all are using pirated copies then I =
might not participate by helping at all. Thanks
