We use Exchange, and keep the messages on the Exchange Server (for most staff) However, I discovered that for one staff member, Outlook had been set up to download the messages to her computer.     - Unable to create secondary Outlook profile I am able to login to my primary profile on Outlook 2007. I am trying to create a profile and I get an error message "The action cannot be completed." when I enter the server and user name. I have been able to do this before and I verified the information I entered is right. The only difference the last time I created this profile was in Outlook 2003.     - Ok one more time I have Outlook 2002 will not send I had a failed disk clone and have a problem sending, but not receiving messages. I set up another computer with an OEM Office 2003 Pro from a Dell I have but have been informed that is illegal since it didn't come with the box I installed it on. So here is the short version. I can send when I "TEST" the settings in the edit area. Says it works but trying to send an actual message it fails with an error. I have let it have permission in my firewall so that is not it. I have resorted to using Hotmail to reply to messages and that's pretty tedious. The Seagate drive clone software locked up it seemed and I aborted the operation when I should have let it go. Most people say it should not have changed any settings as it was only "copying" Well, I am telling you I have never seen the issues it has caused. So, until I get real enthusiastic and do a complete reformat and re-install of XP Pro and all my programs, all I'd like to do is send e-mail. Anyone?     - Outlook 2007 won't quit!! I've just finished upgrading my computer and I've installed Vista Ultimate and Office 2007. Unfortunately, it appears for one account, it is impossible to close Outlook after I've opened it. The X in the top right corner does nothing and selecting File -> Exit does nothing either. The only way to close it is from the control panel. The only e-mail account I've configured so far is a POP account from my ISP. Does anybody have any idea what might be happening here.     - Attachment file extensions Hi. We have an automated program that sends out notification emails to clients. One recipient in particular can not see the file extension on the attachments since he upgraded to Outlook 2007. I assumed this was due to a "Hide file extensions for known types" type of setting, but the user claims the problem went away 2 weeks ago without any intervention on his end (or ours).     - Outlook and VISTA can't connect, but other combinations do! I have a dual boot configuration for my computer with WinXP SP2, and Vista Business. I have Outlook 2007 installed on both. I have e-mail accounts with COMCAST and the Exchange server at my employer. 1. With Outlook as the mail client on WinXP, and the COMCAST and Exchange accounts set for POP3/SMTP, I have no problem connecting to the mail servers and sending and receiving mail from both servers. 2. With Outlook as the mail client on VISTA and the same setup for the COMCAST and Exchange accounts that I use in WinXP, the COMCAST account works just fine, but the Exchange account does not. I get the following error: Connection is interrupted. Error code: ox800CCC0F If I click on the Test account settings button for the Exchange account, it fails with the same error, but I can later find (in WinXP) that the test message was successfully received through Exchange into my Inbox. 3. In VISTA, if I set up Windows Mail using the same settings that I do for Outlook, it works fine with the Exchange account. Thanks in advance for your help.     - Office 2003 - MS Outlook Hello, since yesterday when I click on my contacts in Outlook, I get the calendar page. All the the header in the Navigation Pane show "Contacts", under the "Current View" I get all the options from the Calendar page. When I right-click on the "Contact" icon and click on "Open in New Window", the all the contacts pull up correctly. What do I need to do to save the contacts in the contact folder?     - Corrupted email rules when moving pst file Outlook 2003 to 2007 Computer w/ XPpro, Outlook 2003. Copied the pst file onto a zip drive. Uploaded in onto a computer w XPpro, Outlook 2007 and put the pst file into a directory under My Documents. Opened Outlook 2007. Used file/open/outlook data file and opened the new pst file. Went to tools/account settings, and set the new pst file as the default delivery for email. Then on the same tab, I used remove to close the old folder. I now have one data folder open, the correct one. But all the email rules now are corrupted: they all are have lost the setting for "move it to the specified folder".     - How do I recreate my Outlook files and settings on a new install? I'm sorry if this question is a repeat, but I could not locate the answer. Part of my HD recently crashed on my laptop and it will not reboot anymore. I have a feeling that my data is still on there, so I will try to attach the HD as an external drive and hopefully have the ability to copy files off of it. My question is: How do I recreate my old Outlook setup (with email accounts, all my old settings, contacts and addresses, etc) on the fresh install of Outlook, using the old HD? Can someone please explain where I can find all the files that need to be copied and whether it is just a matter of copying the files over or if I will have to re-add the old email accounts, etc (because I do not have most of that login information settings anymore).     - Upgrading to Outlook 2007 I had an earlier version of Outlook (2003?) and yesterday upgraded to 2007. All went fine until 2007 came up and now gets stuck on the "Configuring Outlook" screen. Ran for about 9 hours and didn't move, but kept saying "Running" in Task Manager. I killed it and then restarted and ran in safe mode and all seemed oK until I couldn't send (could get email, but not send anything other than the Outlook test messages).     - One recipient cannot receive our emails One of our clients cannot receive any emails that are sent from any workstation on our Windows 2003 Server network. We can send and they can receive emails if we use our ISP webmail portal though. The only thing our client will tell us is that our email is changing, preventing our emails from getting through, and that the problem is with the host. This makes no sense, but the fact remains that they don't get our emails, even if we reply to one of their incoming emails.     - Setting up an account to go through proxy I desire to use Outlook 2007 for a number of reasons. However, I currently cannot receive email messages via POP3 through my Proxy. My computer is on our LAN on which there is a computer that runs a proxy and shared Internet access. In Outlook Express, I set up the following: ---------------------------- Incoming mail server: POP3 POP3: 192.168.1.10 (my proxy's IP address) SMTP: 192.168.1.10 Account: wolfgang@workingwebs.co.za#mail.workingwebs.co.za Password: ****** ------------------------ This works perfectly and has from Outlook Express versions running from about year 2000 to the latest most current Outlook Express. Doing the same in Outlook 2007, however, does not work, whereas the SMTP setting does work. Note: For the proxy, the POP3 server host name to be sent with the account name (User name in Outlook 2007) delimited by a # (see above). It appears as though the account string is somehow changed by Outlook 2007 so the proxy doesn't get a valid string to process. ----------------------- My questions: 1. Is the use of an account string as above with a # delimeter not allowed in Outlook 2007? Note: The input is allowed in the account field. E.g. no error message is displayed to indicate that a # delimited account name is invalid. 2. If (1) above is the case, how does one configure Outlook 2007 to go via a proxy to a POP3 account on the Internet? PS: All my apps have to have a proxy setting including IE, Firefox, anti-spyware software. 95% of apps work perfectly. Outlook Express fits in the 95% and Outlook 2007 in the 5%.     - Trying to acces old .pst, getting Accses Denied Purchased new computer and had them install the old drive into the computer. I installed Outlook 2003 (I've got Windows Vista, Home Premium). I first tried to open the old .pst file using File/Open/Outlook Data File. Gave me a system error telling me I did not have access. I located the file on the old drive, renamed it, and copied it into the new drive, and into the same folder as the new .pst file. I then tried to open it with File/Open, etc, and got an Outlook error telling me I don't have access (there was no password on this file). I saw in other messages that the advice was to remove the Read Only (it would be nice to explain how to do that). I assume that is in File Propertiesm, so checked File Properties, and according to that, I have full access. I've read some of the KB articles, but they don't seem to help.     - How do I convert my Outlook 2002 .pst file for use in Outlook 2003 Thanks to this forum, I was finally able to get my Outlook 2002 functioning again. I was stymied by the "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error" mystery ( 2GB limit). From help here, I was able to delete about 1000 emails to get my pst file down to about 1.3 GB after compacting. So that I can avoid this same problem in the future, I'd like to go with Outlook 2003 that I understand has a 20 to 30 GB capacity. I want to use, if possible, this current .pst data file because I have created many subfolders of my inbox that I use daily. Can I do it? What are the steps?     - stubborn Outlook password prompt! I am running Office 2003 SP3 on Windows XP Pro. I am having a stubborn problem with Outlook not saving passwords. It is getting mail from a POP server and sending out to an SMTP server. It refuses to save either password. Everytime I click on send/receive, I have to enter the password. When I do then it gets the mail, however the next time I send/receive I have to re-enter the password. If I am sending mail, I have to re-enter the password for the SMTP server. I have clicked on "save password". But everytime I go into the account setup, the password field is blank again. I have deleted and recreated the Outlook user profile. I have done the fix where you delete the "Protected System Storage Provider" key in the registry. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2003. I even ran the cleanup tool that is in the Office Resource kit, and deleted all Outlook folders in the user profile, and under Program Files. I have started Outlook in Safe Mode and it still has the problem. I have disabled/uninstalled any Spyware and antivirus programs I could find on the PC. I'm really at my wit's end on this. Latest connector, Outlook 2003, Windows XP Home In a number of forums, including on Microsoft, I have read quite explicit statements that it is possible to link a Hotmail account to outlook using either the Windows Live POP3 server or Outlook Connector. It is also said that these services are free, even to newcomers for mail, but chargeable for calendar/contacts synchronisation. I mention this only because there does seem to be confusion out there on what is available and what isnt. So I have tried every whichway to make either of these work for a hotmail.co.uk account without success. Does anyone know for sure whether the facility is available for these addresses (in which case I will go on trying) or that they only work on .com ones. If only .com ones, then how do I get one - I was allocated .co.uk by microsoft. When Iam trying to make this work I am temporarily disabling my firewall and anti -virus just to make sure these arent interfering with anything. That is probably tomorrows problem... My problem is that it finds but will not log on to the pop3 server and/or wont receive (though it does send) any messages through outlook connector. I am pressing send/receive. The connector toolbar shows server status as "connecting" rather than connected; the log file is as follows:- "Outlook Connector Version 12.0.4518.1068 Account: account_name@hotmail.co.uk Signed in successfully at 25/04/2008 19:59:50 Mail: Calendar: Contacts: Errors : Time: 25/04/2008 19:59:52 Error in Calendar Information is missing from your Microsoft Passport Network profile.     - OWA and Outlook 2003 I want OWA and Outlook 2003 to be sync'd up so that if I open/send a message in either client, both of them will reflect these actions. Is this possible? I have some users that will use Outlook 2003 in the office, but sometimes use OWA when they are away (i.e on vacation, travelling on business, etc). What is the best way to configure these clients?     - Can't send emails using Outlook 2007 I can't send email using Outlook 2007. I have Vista, Road Runner, and have McAfee. I have eliminated both of them as problems. I was told that I should contact Microsoft. I had no problems until about a week ago. Nothing has changed on my computer that I know of. I can receive all incoming emails, but when I hit send a pop up window comes up and says, Email message problem, one or more messages cannot be sent. Also, it says, After you verify the format of your recipient addresses, McAfee recommends that you resend those messages from your e-mail program.     - Outlook 2007 and multiple accounts I have a user who has email from 2 different ISP's. One handles personal mail and the other is for work email. If she logs into her computer under one login, can Outlook 2007 be setup to keep the email accounts separate or will they be mixed. Would she need to have 2 logins to the computer, and setup Outlook for the two different accounts, one Windows user account for each email account. All word docs that are opened while in Word always come up in Reading Layout
(two page views). Is there a default setting in Word or Outlook to change
the default to Normal view?

its in word. Are you using 2003 or 2007?
