I am running Windows Vista and Office Professional 2007 on an Acer Extensa
5420. I installed office and everything works fine except outlook. I am
connecting to mail.charter.net and I can receive e-mails, but I cannot send
any. I have set the configurations with mail.charter.net for both incoming
and outgoing pop3 settings and also with pop.charter.net for incoming and
smtp.charter.net for pop3 settings. Both configurations will receive
messages, but neither will send. These configurations work for Outlook
express and webmail, there is nothing wrong with my account. Any suggestions?

Cannot send? What happens when you try?
Do you need to authenticate with the outbound smtp server and is that
configured in your profile?
What does it say when you rn a test message?

When I try to test settings or send a message I get an error that says
Send test e-mail message: Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP)
e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
I contacted my isp and they said since it works with outlook express and
webmail then it has nothing to do with the account and they do not support
anything beyond webmail access.
I do not need to authenticate, so I left the box unchecked in mail set up as
well as in addition settings.

yes i dif. when that didn't work I contacted customer support for charter
and they gave me the alternative to try (using pop.charter.net and
smtp.charter.net) since neither worked for outlook 07 but both work for
outlook express and web mail, they instructed me to seek support from outlook.

Make sure Outlook is enabled through your firewall.

I'm having a similiar problem with Outlook 2007. I have Road Runner and have
McAfee. I have eliminated both of them as problems. I was told that I should
contact Microsoft. I had no problems until about a week ago. Nothing has
changed on my computer that I know of. I can receive all incoming emails,
but when I hit send a pop up window comes up and says, Email message
problem, one or more messages cannot be sent. Also, it says, After you
verify the format of your recipient addresses, McAfee recommends that you
resend those messages from your e-mail program. I have already turned off
McAfee and Road Runner works off their own webpage. I'd really appreciate
some help on this one. Thanks.

With McAfee you need to uninstall it and then re-install WITHOUT the =
email integration. Just turning the option for scanning will not work =

Did you ever get this problem resoloved? I have the same problem when I
switch to Charter from comcast when I am in Wisconsin. If you solved the
problem, what worked? i have tried all the suggestions and I cannot send
outgoing email via smtp.charter.net. The folks at charter said it's an
outlook problem, but I have no problem sending outlook messages via
smtp.comcast.net when I am in Minnesota. Sheila

no, I was never able to get the help I needed. Like you, I am in wisconsin,
and I have done everything charter recommended. I have no problem with the
settings in Outlook express, but express doesn't have the calendar and
appointment features I need. I have no conflicts with any virus protection,
I cannot figure out what the problem can be and it is SO very frustrating.

Re: Outlook 2007 can't send e-mails by saoiencomcastnet

Thanks for responding. I was able to connect using the smtp.comcast.net
outgoing mail setting. So strange - this never worked before in WI.

To get this to work, in Outlook 2007, I selected my email account name (I
had changed the outgoing mail setting to smtp.comcast.net) and selected
"repair." Then I sent a test email and it worked! I can't believe it.

To try a work around, yesterday I even signed up for a free gmail account
just so I could use the outgoing mail setting for gmail but that didn't work
either though I wonder if I had run the repair action if that problem would
have been solved. I am aftraid to change anything now that I can send files
in Outlook.

Wishing you the best. Good luck.
