I needed to do a detect and repair in Excel which seems to also have
reconfigured things in Outlook. I tried to relink my .pst file but it's not
there (or else has been emptied).

Searched across the PC *.pst with no avail. Where's it gone and why!!!

You probably got a new mail profile. In Control Panel's Mail applet, click
Show Profiles and see if there's more than one. If so, configure it to open
the other one and see what happens.

One's PST(s) are created by default in a usually-hidden folder under the
user's Windows profile. That could be why you haven't found your PST. FOr
Windows XP, look in %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook and on Vista, look in
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook.
