    - Outlook GPO and PST files How do you get the Outlook GPO to not control the Archive.PST file? I have Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 on workstations with either XP Pro or Vista Business. Our server is a Win2K3 Enterprise with Exchange 2K3 Enterprise. Archive settings work great. However, when I set retention settings, it caused the files in the archive.pst file to be moved to the Deleted Items folder. I did check the "open archive folder" check box as part of the retention settings in the GPO.     - Migrated Outlook 2003 to 2007 on new PC and now Address Book hosed I migrated my XP professional settings to Vista professional (I know I know!) and when I create an Outlook (Enterprised ed.) email, the To list is empty. Drop down Address Book list is empty. When I click Advanced Find I get modal dialog "The search cannot be completed. Tou must have an address list to search in. If you don't have an address list contact your Microsoft Exchange admin." I don't have Microsoft Exchange. Under Tools/Account Settings/Address Book I have Outlook Address Book MAPI but Remove is disabled. Under Contacts Folder under Properties, Outlook Address Book tab, the "Show this folder email address book" check box is disabled. I have uninstalled the product and reinstalled it - no luck. The registry has evil stuff. I tried renaming my C:\Users\...\outlook directory, uninstalled/reinstalled and then Outlook wouldn't run - again the evil registry entries "remembering" the wrong stuff. So now I'm at my wit's end. The only option I see is to reload windows from scratch to get a clean registry - unless someone can help me figure out how to activate the "show this folder" button.     - Alternating between multiple *.PST files... Like Ray19 back on 3-12-08, I've got a pst file issue. I recently got a new computer but still run Outlook Express 6. I've used my new computer for a couple months and have built up numerous items in its' new *.PST file. Now I'd like to go back to the old PST file and review some messages and addresses. How can I alternate between these two PST files (one on my new computer and the other is accessible via my home network). I've looked through several configuration screens and find no place where the PST file location is spelled out. Oh, yeah... Messing with the registery file scares me! Thanks...     - Error opening Outlook 2003 Every time I start Outlook 2003 I get the following message: An error occurred in the shortcuts folder file (.fav). Outlook will recreate the default folder shortcuts. Clicking Ok starts Outlook without any apparent problems. I read that 2003 does not use a .fav file, but everytime I start outlook I get the same message. I have searched every where for an answer with no success. There is no .fav file on my computer.     - I need Major Help... I have been working on this problem off and on for a week. It stated with Daylight Savings Time...both PC and Pocket PC were correct time but appts. off by hour. Nothing on Windows Mobile was helping and then I saw an upgrade to Windows Mobile verson 6.1, which I did. Now computer will not recognize Pocket PC. I decide to try the CD that came with T-Mobile Wing and on there is a Trial Version of Outlook 2007, which I download. But Outlook 2002 only comes up and Outlook 2007 is only visible under "remove programs." I end up here and see that 2002 and 2007 cannot work side by side so I reinstall 2007 and ask it to remove earlier version. Now I have no 2002 and still cannot locate 2007. I search for *.pst and nothing comes up. Now I'm flipping out and restore to earlier time. Still no 2002 or 2007. Can someone please help?     - Typeahead lost in upgrade I know this is a common issuse as there are other pages covering it, but none offering a fix - Upgrading from Outllook Express 6 To Outlook 2003 has left the users with no typeahead action in the To: field of new messages. This is perhaps a more critical bug than it might at first seem, as some users have developed working-procedures which depend on typeahead. It seems the root of the problem is that Outlook stores the typeahead name-list elsewhere than the Contacts folder -whereas OE does use the addressbook- and that info isn't migrated.     - Outlook Rules I have a client who has been using Outlook as a standalone POP3 client. He now has a new laptop that he will be using with Exchange on SBS 2003. He has a lot (around 450) rules that take incoming mail and deliver the messages to specific folders and then send him an alert that he has received mail from the person. I exported the rules to a file and then attempted to import them to the new laptop. All but about 6 of the rules will not import correctly.     - Cannot create/migrate profiles in Outlook 2007 I installed Office 2007 after un installing Office 2003. My profile will not migrate automatically - Exchange Server not available error. I tried to create it manually, but it does not find my name. My exchange settings are correct and I am able to access my account thru web access.     - Custom form problems We have a custom form that we use in Outlook for time off requests. Basically the user opens the form, it automatically populates the "To" field w/ her manager (pulled from AD) and she fills in the time off and sends it along. The manager opens it, clicks Approve or Reject and if its approved a message is sent to the user and also a copy goes to our corporate payroll. The time off is also entered into both the user and manager's calendar. We're having problems on a user that is running Office 2007 (with SP1). When he tries to approve the time off it appears to send and then he gets an error message stating "Outlook does not recognize one or more names." If he looks in his sent items the "approved" message isn't there but the time off will show up in his calendar. The user requesting the time off never gets a response and neither does our corporate payroll dept. When this initially started happening one of our IT guys recreated his login profile on his desktop -- so he started with a clean profile. That appeared to resolve the problem but now (after a couple of days) it's back. This form was written by a previous employee so we're pretty limited in terms of how it was setup and making changes to the actual form without some guidance. Any ideas?     - LDAP directory in Outlook 2003 takes long time to list the address Hello , I've configured my email (IMAP) and LDAP directory in Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook 2000 and Outlook 2003. Its perfectly running in both Outlook Express & Microsoft Outlook 2000. But I am facing a problem (LDAP directory) with Outlook 2003. all email IDs are getting from my LDAP directory server, but it takes min 60 seconds to list all. BUT Outlook Express & Microsoft Outlook 2000 are listing very QUICKLY(3-5 seconds only). This problem is only in Outlook 2003.     - Update junk email filter removes outlook profile Hi, I have a small problem with the updates to the Outlook junk email filter. I am running Windows XP with SP2 and Office 2003. Outlook is the latest version (2003 with SP3). Every month when the updates are released by Microsoft, Outlook creates a Backup of the Default Oulook Profile, and resets the Default Outlook Profile. This means that each month I loose all settings (signatures, cached mode setting, extra mailboxes, etc.) unless I remove the Default Outlook Profile and rename the backup back to Default Outlook Profile. My old computer (Dell 4600) failed and I have mounted my old hard drive in an external USB enclosure and connected it to my new computer Dell "XPS" 420 running Microsoft Vista Ultimate.     - Can't change .pst file from Read Only? I am attempting to transfer my old .pst file (2002 Outlook) from an old hard drive where the computer failed (system was XP) to a new machine running Vista. One of the steps is to copy the old .pst file from the old drive to the new system, then to change the .pst file from Read Only and point Outlook to it. I can change (unhighlight) the Read Only box and Apply but when I look again at the file the Read Only box is again highlighted? How can I change this file from Read Only so that Outlook can attempt to operate with it?     - Automatic Formatting (using colors) stopped working I have my inbox set up to apply different colors to incoming email based on the "From" field. Some of my filters have stopped working and I cannot get them to function anymore. I have not made any changes to any of the rules. I've tried to restate the rules and add new ones without success. Some of my filters are still functioning properly. All of the filters still function properly on my other mail folders (which I use to organize old messages). Just not my inbox. If I transfer an uncolored message from my inbox to one of my organizational folder, sometimes the message turns the approriate color. If I tranfer a still colored messge some time the color turns off. While the Organize pane is open, I have clicked the Automatic Formatting link at the top right and examined the individual rules carefully and see if I could figure out the problem that way. Some of the rules don't work anymore and some do. An example of a rule that doesn't work any more is: Properties of Selected Rule = font is green Advanced Condition: Field = From Condition = contains Value = jdoe@anywhere.org An example of a rule that still works is: Properties of Selected Rule = font is pink Advanced Condition: Field = From Condition = contains Value = jsmith@someplace.org I am using Outlook Professional 2003. Each of the rules (both wokring and non working) have around 50 simple one line rules like the above. (basically 50 unique senders). The problem started concurrently with my .pst file reaching almost 1.9 GB. I split my mail folders into new .pst files and compacted them so they are each now, about 800 MB.     - How to filter emails with CC Hey everyone, I have an inbox set up where all my worker's emails all go into the same general inbox. So I have like emails comming in from 3 different email addresses, and I use rules to filter out emails to different folders. I've been having this problem where if someone CC'ed one of my workers, 2 emails would go to the person that it was sent to, not cc'ed to. The person that was CC'ed wouldn't receive anything.     - Macro Security settings Grayed out??? HI everyone, I haven't been able to figure this one out. Just upgraded two users to Outlook 2007.     - Outlook crashes on start-up I am running Vista home basic with Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007. The other programs are working, although I have had to re-install to get Groove to work. When I first started Outlook it would run the installation and configuration windows for an exceedingly long time. Clicking on business contact manager caused it to freeze. Now if I even attempt to open it I just get a pop up that says "This application failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem". It didn't.     - Importing WAB addressbook with hierarchical folders As the title says, one user has multiple hierarchical folders in a Windows Address Book (.WAB) file, and so far it's proved impossible to import these into Outlook 2003. All the import utility will do is to import the toplevel folder into Contacts, omitting the rest. The user needs this addressbook in its present format since it lists the contacts for each client/job in a logical manner. Re-creating it by hand would be a very lengthy process. That is, if it's even possible as I can't find any way to create a tree of subfolders in Contacts, it seems to be a flatfile only. Any suggestions? Office 2000 I have MS Office Professional 2000 a ful legal version, yet when I try to access Equation Editor, by going Ctrl panel then Add Remove Programs then I navigate my way to Office Tools, and select Equation Editor then try to go "Run from My Computer" with the CD in the drive, Office has the nerve to tell me that I don't have a legal version of the program, or some such comment. Most likely you need to reconfigure your firewall.
