    - Automatically expand group if new email arrives in subfolder? I have created several rules to move incoming messages to designated subfolders, but now I am unaware of new messages because they do not trigger a new message alert since they are moved from the Inbox upon arrival. Is it possible to setup a group to automatically expand if a new message arrives in a subfolder? Any other suggestions to "see" new messages arriving into a subfolder? Thank you!     - Using Gmail in my Outlook Hi, I am Diala. I am using Gmail in Microsoft Outlook 2003. Everytime I send an email and copy myself, all recipients receive my email except me. But if I open my gmail account from the explorer I find the email sent from Me to Me. The only way I can get this email in my Outlook Inbox is to go to "gmail settings" from the explorer and "Enable POP for all mail" which means I'll receive a copy of all emails again inluding the OLD ones (which are already in my outlook inbox).     - international sms with outlook I am using Outlook and the add-on sms module for OutLook from MicroSoft. I can send an international sms from my cell with no problem. Using the same number, wehn trying to send through this new SMS add-on module, I keep on getting an error stating that the number is incorrect.     - Outlook 2003 OLE forms error Due to a corrupted local profile I had to remove/delete and reset a local profile on one of our computers. We have a special message form that we use for outgoing mail. Prior to resetting the profile the form worked correctly. Since resetting the profile after publishing the form to the Inbox when the user tries to access the form he receives the following message. "The form you selected could not be displayed. An error occurred registering the form in the OLE registry." I have deleted the form through the forms manager, cleared the cache and republished the form with the same results.     - There appears to be a navigation error in Windows Live Mail Used this category because "Windwos Live Mail" isn't a selection option...neither is "Other". I am using Windows Live Mail with my XP operating system...all service packs are current. Windows Live Mail appears to have a navigation error. If I enter my email contacts, forget to enter a Subject, then type in my email and hit "Send" I get the message that I didn't include a Subject, do I want to continue? If I select Cancel I am returned to the email....but I cannot enter a Subject. I can place the cursor in the Subject line and type, but the typing goes into the email at the point where my cursor last was. (sorry about the grammar) Regardless of what I try I cannot enter data into the Subject line. I can send the email, it just won't have a Subject.     - Unable to right click in the Inbox Hi All, I have a user who is unable to right click within his Inbox. We are running Outlook 2003 in an XP environment. Whenever the user right clicks in the email nothing happens however he can right click in his folder list and within the email. The user wants to be able to just right click on the email and block the sender (or delete the email) but now he has to go through the file menu to get these things done so while this is not MAJOR it is an annoyance and any help that can be given would be appreciated.     - Email Contents Disappear After receiving an email in Outlook 2002 and viewing the email, I move onto the next email and later go back to the first email, the contents are gone. Even the size of the email has been reduced to 2 or 3 kbytes. This only seems to happen with certain senders. The only way I know of to get the content is to check my email from the webmail of my provider. Then cut and past to a document. Is there a setting that is causing the email contents to disappear?     - HTML Images Get Stripped-Out Hello, I have an intermittent problem. When I send an HTML page as an e- mail, Outlook 2003 sometimes strips out the images (jpg's) and sends them as attachments. It only does this for certain HTML pages. It sends some OK. This is probably the fault of the third-party add-in that I'm using, "Send Individually". With one of our web pages it works fine, sending out the whole HTML webpage as a unified e-mail. With another webpage, it strips out the images. It actually works OK in plain old Outlook. It's only when I try to use "Send Individually" that this problem intermittently occurs. And their Tech Support people don't seem to know why. Maybe if someone is real good in HTML they could see something.     - 2 Outlook Newbie questions Dear Outlook gurus: I've used Eudora as my email client for 25 years and know it very well. But now I've just changed jobs, and I have to learn Outlook. I'm picking it up ok, but one thing bothers me: unless I'm missing something, the "Send" button doesn't mean what it says. It appears that when I compose a message and click "Send", Outlook doesn't send it, just moves it to the Outbox. I then have to do a second step, "Send and Receive" (or a "Send All"), to actually get the message on its way. I keep forgetting to do that. Is there any way to eliminate this two-step process? Oh, and another thing: when I open an attachment, is there a way I can tell Outlook at that moment what program to use? For example, if I receive a tab-delimited .txt file, maybe I want to open it with Excel, but I want to continue to open other .txt files with a text editor.     - BOLD GROUP HEADINGS FOR NEW MAIL Hello, I have my inbox grouped by Date (Today, Yesterday, Last Week, etc) and for some reason when I have new mail (or old undread mail) the group headings are not bold or fonted differently from groupings with nothing but unread mail.     - "You dont have permission to perform this operation. " I have a laptop that cratered one me.. Windows XP.....I had to do a system restore from the beginning. Lost a lot but no biggie. Had Office 97 full version on it and then had the 2003 Office Upgrade. Had no problems before it crashed. Got everything fixed on the laptop. Got all the windows updated and went to upload the Office again and had problems right off the bat with 97. Couldnt find my default folders. Figured I had a Registry problem. Deleted 97 and then Went into Registry and renamed all the folders in Office to OLD. This allowed me to Load 97 again and then the 2003 upgrade. When I started 2003 I got an error "An error occured in the folder shortcuts file .fav Outlook will recreate the defualt folder shortcuts. " And I could do nothing. Kept getting the error. At this point I went to Control panel and deleted the program and then went to regedit again renamed everything and then loaded it all back up again. During the 2003 profiles being set up. Put in Pop3, SMTP strings passwords and emails address. In Tools, emails accounts. I did the test. Everything checks out. It sends and receives. I went to my hotmail to verify it is being sent and it work. I go to start a new email.... As soon as I hit the Send/recieve button in the tool bar I get the error "You dont have permission to perform this operation. " However it DOES send the email... I just can not receive emails. I saw in other posts to change the outlook .SRS files. I did a search on my c drive of all files. hidden as well. I dont see any. I went to Documents and settings/Administrator/Application data/Microsfot/office/outlook and tried to see if the files were in the outlook folder. I can not open the folder and when I hover it says the folder is empty.l. I get the error that "Outlook is not accessible. Access denied." I did go to the Documents and setting and make sure the READ ONLY was NOT checked. Yet still having the problem. Can not receive mail and the errors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - O2007 not honoring "do not send read receipt" Well kind of. I have defined in my preferences to "never send read receipts". It turns out that Outlook is still generating "not read" receipts for unread items being deleted by the auto-archive procedure. Is there a way to turn this off ?     - Disbale Outlook Connector How can I disable Outlook Connector? The problem is whenever it synchs it erases part of my contact notes in Outlook (apparently there is a limit on the amount of info it synchs with Hotmail and I lose my all my info that I wrote in my contact notes beyond a certain limit).     - Inserting Symbols into Mail I searched the Help for guidance on inserting symbols into email, such as square root. The alternatives seem to be: Character Map, which is effective but long-winded, Insert, Symbol, which is not available unless you are using Word as the editor, Character code, which is fine as long as you can remember the code Autocorrect, which again assumes Word is the editor. If I don't wish to use Word, how can I get a list of character codes?     - Problem with mailto: attachement Hi Guys, I am having some problem with the following command... When I type in.... mailto:mailto:Bob@domain.com?attachment="D:\mytext.txt" only the address mailto:Bob@domain.com gets typed-in, in the to: field, but the file does not get attached.     - HTML troubles Hi, I am trying to use HTML in an e-mail, just for fun, to try and spruce up my e-mail signature. However, this is hardly straight forward and so far my efforts haven't worked. I googled it, and the main option was to create the webpage in MS Word, and then use word facilities to send the html page as an e-mail. However, whenever I try and add some simply html code such as <marquee> hello world </marquee> the MS word document displays a huge red cross, and my code seems to be gone from the HTML source. Although strangely, if I open the file in internet explorer, the marquee code functions correctly. Just in Word it shows the red cross. Why is this happening??     - Outlook 2007 w/Windows Live Outlook Connector ERROR: 0x80070057 This is the 3rd time I've had this issue on different configurations of Outlook with the outlook connector. I am getting the error upon trying to send/receive after I have deleted or added more than a few emails. It seems to have started out as a sync issue, but now it will not send/receive at all and mail just sits in the outbox. As I said before, it is a new install, so detect and repair doesn't apply (already tried it so don't suggest it). I also tried it in a different/new profile and it breaks after about a month each time, usually when I go thru my mail and delete a significant chunk of stuff. The question is: How do I get it to properly synchronize my mailbox and get back up to date? There are only a few differences between my online box on hotmail and the local cache in outlook. I would like to get to the bottom of this because I could just dump it and start over, but this would keep happening as it has in the past. Suggestions?     - Problems with Profile Recovery Hi, One of our computers was infected with a virus. Because of the major problems with running it after the virus was supposedly cleared, we had to reinstall Windows. After that, I copied the files from the former Application Data and Local Settings Outlook folders so at least we have the old emails. The problem is trying to recover the profiles themselves in order so we can send and receive messages, import and export files again. One problem in particular is we keep getting macro errors when we try to export. Is there a way to recover the profiles from the former set of files (in the old profile folders) without needing a .pst file? We can see everything, we just can't do anything.     - Outlook 2002- cannot delete email which locks up Outlook All the following should be prefixed with "Foolishly" I installed outlook 2002 on my new Vista laptop. All worked fine until a large email arrived. On trying to open it, Outlook locked up. I was able to do a Detect and repair, but that did not solve the problem. I have checked with the originator and this does not appear to have happened to anyone else. AVG has not reported anything. Initially Outlook opened in Today and I could access anything except the dreaded email. In an attempt to clear everything else out and delete the file, I moved the more recent emails. I now have the situation that this email is the top of the inbox and Outlook opens in the Inbox not in Today, so I can do nothing with it as it immediately locks even without touching the email in question.     - unable to delete email or empty "deleted items" folder I am getting the error message of: The drive that contains your data file is out of disk space. Empty the Deleted Items folder or create space on the drive by removing some of your files. Access is denied. Verify the disk is not full or write protected and that the files are not being used. I have a partitioned hard drive. C-drive has 15.4Gb free and the D-drive has 7.44 Gb free so i doubt it is space. I do not have the drives write protected. And i got the error while trying to empty the Deleted Items file. I really wanted to clean out my emails today and make the total file smaller... but when I tried I got this error..... I would like to format my hard drive, but I am wondering how I can keep my
outlook messages in a folder and copy them to a pen drive. Any advice will be
appreciated!

Here's excellent information on backing up Outlook:

Whether or not you can fit it onto a USB drive depends on the size of your
PST.
